Going back to that green Clubman for a mo - just dug this out, I don't think I've ever seen a Mini in factory applied 'Lagoon Metallic' before, it looks rather nice...

It would look great on a Mk3 based Wood & Pickett Mini with all the trimmings.

I agree the Anglia was an early looking and bog standard one, i could'nt tell you all much about most of the vehicles in these pics' i posted as most vehicle owners don't give out info' as much as they used to, some few still do thankfully 'cos i don't know every make i see. :dontknow:

The Saab in the first tranche did it for me!

Incidentally, next to those red Frogeyes, in blue, looked like a Berkeley 3 wheeler. Was it? A mate of mine had one and put a Mini engine it. Never got a ride in it though.

Interesting that they show both Black Tulip and Aconite for 1974. The MGB bible "Original MGB" by Clausager, lists Black Tulip for the 1973 model year and Aconite for the 1974 model year. They were fairly close, Aconite being rather lighter.

Some colours lasted for only one year, such as Mirage, while others like Teal and Damask Red lasted for several years. Interesting how the colours illustrate the variety that was available compared to the concentration on white, black and the variations of grey we see nowadays.

Not suggesting for a minute ours was that particular colour, but it was a mid metallic blue before the 'restorer' painted it red. Bits such as the inside of the screen pillars still show the original colour!

Can confirm that Clubman is Tundra, same colour as my Marina estate was. Somewhat dulled by neglect, I was forever being asked if it had a military history...

Lagoon is a stunning colour, as modelled by a friend's Mumford Marina here

It was a serious contender for my estate but we went with Black Tulip in the end, I thought it might be a bit much. Another friend has an estate in Aconite that I took up to the NEC last year, it's quite a bit brighter.

Edit, Kev's estate at the NEC here

Sorry, I only think in Marinas. It's a terrible affliction...

Doesn’t that get a bit damp?

For example, two Sprite mk1s?.....One with number stuck on slope of bonnet, the other indecipherable as to its location.....Or the Yank tanks with their quite illegal shapes, colours & fonts....Or the really old cars with the reg.number simply  a set of characters stuck onto the red bodywork?

Clicking on the picture to enlarge seems to show the plate on the far Sprite below the grill , looks a bit like

a foreign reg , and also seems to be be quite modified around the wheel arches , I wonder if it is a competition

car as it also looks like a timing beam breaker at the front and there is  a roll cage inside .

I was just thinking that the Mini was the same colour as 'Mud' (Matt's Marina's name - it'll have to change!), and was going to make a post.... and there you are!

We see a few Marinas running around locally and all used as daily users, because the Marina owners club guy Harry Hayes lives local to us. :senile: This Lime-flower Green Marina was bought for £90 for the TV series 'Life On Mars' apart from a fist sized hole in the boot floor it was a very solid original car, it was sold off for just £300 after the filming finished. Hope its still around and in good hands? Chucked the mini pic' in as well, another Lime-flower Green.

I have to admit to quite liking the Marina.

My impressions are usually acquired by actual usage in the dim 'n distant.

I had use [ie, not mine] of a Coupe, with 1275cc engine for a  couple of years....similar colour to the one Owd Bob has posted.  I found it quite a pleasant car to drive.  Certainly better than most of the then-current FWD brigade......and not as 'heavy' to drive as a Cortina.

I also liked the dashboard layout....[being used to what are now 'classic' cars!!]  especially on the passenger side, where the dash was cut back, which gave enough room for a passenger to sit comfortably..maybe even cross their legs?

Unlike most of the competition....who, even today, seem to want to cram one's legs into a cupboard?

The smaller engine meant less of a feeling of having a boat anchor stuffed up front.  I cannot recall my impressions of the 1.8 estates I had use of from time to time [work, usually delivering school dinners!]....

My Dad had a Marina Estate in bright blue from new. I only drove it once and don't remember it being terrible*. We did talk about it coming to me after he got a new car but it never happened. Maybe for the best...

*Unlike a somewhat more used one I drove later that, co-incidentally, belonged to someone who is now a member of RMWeb. It was yours Julian!

Yep, that's what it is. A Canadian brand the owner told me

Later swallowed up by GM and marketed as a McLaughin-Buick

McLaughin-Buick continued as a name for Canadian built Buicks for quite a while after the GM takeover - right up to WWII I think.  The Prince of Wales/Edward VII/Duke of Windsor had a few of them.  It was probably an acceptable foreign car for a Royal to have as they were still made in the Empire....

An excitable scallywag takes a stroll around some cars that went for the scrappage scheme.

It's funny what he finds exciting. I've never seen anyone so happy to find a Mk5 Escort.
