On the subject of  cyclops headlights, above is  a 1947 Maserati A6GCS.....obviously,  it was considered a single headlight was adequate for blasting along the Cote D'Azur at midnight?

I first came across these in my early teens, when I also had a slot car passion......the article and plans were in a slot car magazine of the era [1960's...early]....[Model Cars? I think it might have been an EMAP publication? I may be wrong there?].......even at the time I thought it was somewhat 'risky' to be driving one of these with brio, in the dark?

I do note that modern owners fit a pair of extra headlights......

I am horrified by the way some film and TV producers treat vehicles and other property loaned to them. What seems to be required is some sort of document that has to signed by the company representative using the vehicle stating that it should be returned in the same condition as when it was loaned out. We do have a 'legal eagle' posting on this thread perhaps he could suggest a few ideas as to what it should say?

The Magnum had this stunt (not so) double. Broke my heart damaging a decent chrome bumper but that's what the whole double car was bought for i suppose.

That is a ringer for the first car we had after we got married (& I'd had to get rid of my last rally Escort) - same horrible colour, same naff condition, same hateful car. Had I still owned it, the production company needn't have bought a double - I'd have paid them to take the thing away...!!

Never take any car used on the telly or in a film as being totally honest or having its original, badges or Reg' number, we tried to tell them when stuff is just totally wrong and could be spotted a mile away but they don't listen or care, it just has to be roughly of the period.....on LOM  there was a Vauxhall Victor VX90 that a director just kept calling a Ford Corsair and he was adamant in that 'cos his Dad used to have one!   :O    :jester:

My mate's '78 SD1 was used in a magazine photoshoot in London a while back, an American 'starlet' was snapped looking aloof and miserable on the bonnet, when the magazine appeared you could hardly tell what type of car it was in the cropepd photos. He came home extremely miffed from the shoot with dozens of scratches all over the car which weren't there when he drove it down there.

There may be something suitable in the Encyclopaedia Of Forms and Precedents for adaptation....

That Viva/Magnum is a bit odd. . . plated as a  '74, yet the 1600 changed to 1800 in '72 . . . . .

and the police car behind it looks like a SL model HB. .

John

The Magnum is an 1800.

The HB cop car was an 1100 SL model and was originally Gold and was painted up as a Panda car for 'Life On Mars' but at first in an all White livery, it can just be seen in the first three eps. parked up outside the Police station(Stockport Town Hall) The Blue was added later but yet again it was never used.  The Magnum despite the badges had a 2.3 engine in it. :secret:

A very good reason why not to rent your beloved vehicle out to a film or TV company, then have to leave it with them because you are not able to stay on set to drive it and keep a watch on it.

Tidy new respray when it turned up on set.....

attachicon.gifPICT0538.JPG

Then some buckets of dirty water, poster paint and real mud appeared.....

attachicon.gifPICT0566.JPG

When filming was finished it was sent back to the base camp and left to its owner to collect looking like this.... :O

attachicon.gifPICT0568.JPG

attachicon.gifPICT0570.JPG

attachicon.gifPICT0573.JPG

attachicon.gifPICT0004.JPG

The owner went absolutely crackers and had to have it fully professionally cleaned & valeted and sent the hirers the bill......they argued over who was to pay up for several months later. If you are ever asked if you would like your vehicle can be used in a film or on TV. then stay with it all day long, drive it yourself, and never let any Actor or stunt person drive it, unless its already a wreck and not your pride and joy! :derisive:

'Professionally weathered, eh?

Surprised to hear of them being so cavalier in their treatment of people who have hired/lent them vehicles. When it comes to houses, they're a lot more careful. Not only do they 'deep clean', but often will repaper and paint if they've caused damage; they will sometime agree to complete redecoratation.. At the same time, they'll pay for accomodation or holiday for the residents whilst shooting is taking place. An acquaintance of Lynne, living in Jesmond, Newcastle, has been doing this for a long time ( more than 25 years) ; their house is the sergeant's one in the most recent series of 'Vera'.

Locations/houses etc that are to be used again and again will be well looked after, but with a one off or short lived drama....they won't care as much as they won't be returning that often or ever again. Talking of returning! How about a certain 'Actor' out of Red Riding giving us back the gear knob out of the HB he took for a keepsake. :mosking: Modern day Actors and stunt men don't even know what a choke is...the lovely Blue Hillman had its ripped out by one who had'nt a clue what it was for, same on the White Allegro in LOM..someone pulled the choke knob out and ripped half the plastic dash out with it! :mosking: You have been warned! :derisive:

Heres another well known car that was said to have been half a dozen of one and six of the other.... :mosking:  :jester:

I saw that road legal stock car the other day on the A1079 near Shipmanthorpe. I seem to remember it lives round there somewhere. Even though I had seen the video it still looks a bit odd!

Given that a car designed for a contact racing formula is likely to be cheap and easy to repair following minor bingles, maybe not as much as you'd think :D.

A few weeks back, whilst enjoying a hot choccy at a Maccydees drive-over...[A1079/A614]....spotted a 'stock-car' being driven on the road....no visible mudguards, wing on roof, lights, etc.....came up from Howden, turned towards York.....

That'll be the one I spotted in June?    Shiptonthorpe?

This Monumental Motor was parked, rather appropriately outside a Monumental Masons!

a 1979 Lincoln Continental Coupe

Just round the corner is the "Green Man" a very nice pub our first port of call on the day!

I have a 00 scale model of one, in the same colours. Actually its a Tomica diecast and very hard to find now.

A rather nice publicity shot for 'Adam Adamant Lives!' taken in 1966, I'm not sure which studio backlot it is but theres a 'Tardis' Police Box visible in the open doorway in the background (did the BBC have a separate studio away from TV Centre in Shepard's Bush back then..?)... it's a pity this isn't in glorious '60s technicolour as the Radford Cooper S is in two tone metallic gold over metallic brown...

The same car as restored by the late John Kelly in 2007...
