Would love a Ghibli, or even better a Cup. I may be strange, but that period of Maserati with the fairly subtle exteriors, tarts boudoir interiors and bonkers engines really do appeal...

...not to mention the dodgy reliability and corrosive reputation....

Just back from a trip to Spain and one of the places I've wanted to visit for some time is the small motorcycle museum near Guadalest. Scattered amongst the bikes is a small number of cars and to begin with here's a tiny little Vespa, a Seat 600 and a Renault Alpine...

I absolutely have no clue what this is, but I can tell you it was tiny...

We have a 222SE, a touch older than a Ghibli.

Rust wise while not great they are not that bad. Certainly better than a Ford of the same age. And the Ghibli is quite a bit ahead of the 222 for rust protection.

Reliability overall isn’t too bad. Main issue is the fuse box. Older ones have pathetically small alternators that fry, but the perminant fix is the 105 amp AC Delco alternator from a Ghibli

All the best

Most definitely a Morgan, with the addition of a (battery?) box beside the driver with a klaxon on top of it. I have seen pics of the mystery car before, IIRC it is of French make.

Occassionally, modern GP drivers do get the chance to drive the cars from the golden era, a few years ago David Coulthard drove one of Jim Clark's Lotus 49s and Lewis drove one of Stirling Moss's '50s Mercedes GP cars.

Coming soon on Channel 4 Guy Martin takes on Jenson Button in classic F1 cars.

Thanks for those Spanish museum pics. I do love those 1950s cycle cars - they are so honest about their engine size, unlike the modern Cinquecento (actually 1.2 litres I'm told!)

As for Matras - I remember a model of that era to be a three seater with a centre steering wheel (made by the fighter aeroplane industrialist but derived from the Gordini sports-racing marque)

Thanks for the link, I hadn't realised there was a list of exhibits!

Regarding the 1927 Morgan Aero, there are some detail shots at this link, use the left and right arrows.

Every time I see a Triumph Herald convertible, I keep being reminded of the late Dame Thora Hird having trouble with the gearchange....

''You've been moving things around again our Wesley...''  ;)

An example very much like the one you saw in Kilburn keeps popping up in the background in several old ITC series like Randall & Hopkirk and Department S, it probably belonged to one of the film crew I'd imagine. A similar thing happened in The Sweeney where a red Fiat 850 Coupe popped up in almost every street scene!

As many times as the green Beetle in the chase from Bullitt?  Same shot used from loads of angles used to stretch the same stunt out loads of times.

Even the re-shoot acknowledged it.

IIRC some Alpines were actually built in Spain, or so I remember hearing. I know one featured quite heavily in a weird Spanish movie I caught on TV a few years back.

1300cc with a heavy duty shell. Fancied one but always just out of reach a bit like the Porsche 912.
