'Black 5' No. 45305 at Loughborough on the Great Central Railway. Taken way, way back in October 2010 and recently dredged up and edited in the interests of being "arty farty".

Do you know why the Motherwell shedplate?

Do you know why the Motherwell shedplate?

I think it was because of the presence of 'K4' No. 61994 and 'D49' No. 249 'Morayshire'. The Motherwell shedplate was added so that the Black 5 would fit in with the Scottish theme, so to speak.

(I seem to remember that for the weekend, No  78019 ran as No. 78054 for the same reason).

Some pics from 1963 and 1964:

Nice set of photos. There seem to be very few colour photos of 10000.

No offence intended, lads but I am reminded of a couple of lines on one of those little discs sent out to members of the Beatles fan club back in the sixties. IIRC:

Paul: "Our next film will be in colour!"

John: "Green ..."

One of the LMS diesels... and a Bulleid too. Superb!

End of the day on the Ffestiniog.

The two locos have run across The Cob from Harbour Station and have been uncoupled before they run separately into the yard at Boston Lodge. Snap taken a few years ago, certainly before the WHR was re-opened.

I never was a big fan of the GWR but these two photos are quite delightful - maybe it's the black paint that does it for me :tomato:
