Morning Brian,......... :drag:

If you have to hand.........."Ashford to Dover". by Vic.Mitchell & Keith Smith. Middleton Press.

Near the end of the book,is "Dover Town Station" its plan of 1862,shews,the original sheds, North of the yard, in fact on the start of what was to become the 10 chain curve.

So am assuming, once the curve was in place, "Town",was redeveloped, the sheds re-built,to the seaward side,(of the yard),whilst developing,DMS.

Once,"Town & Harbour stations, ceased to become passenger stops,"Dover Priory", was rebuilt in 1932,and became Dover's main station,

except for DMS/Western docks, that remained functional till 1995.

For "Boat Train/Ferries"..not to be confused with,"Night Ferry nor  Boat train".

There is a big, difference, some people get confused,or even miss the point of the term used.

BFn.......... :drag:

I'm still confused as to where the sheds were. Between those long sidings and the beach?

If you have the book, look @ plate 107.and it's attached description.

The sheds were "modernized"/rebuilt in 1928,  which had 5 roads, one only connected to the marshalling yard.

Built on re- claimed land,of the foreshore.

Will have to look for another plan.........sorry......... :paint:

,

In WWII, a look-out man was deployed,to sight flashes from the French coast, from the German shore batteries.

When a flash was spotted, it took,53.seconds for the armoured shell to find it's target in Dover,an approx.distance of 23.miles, and I think 1,000.pounds in weight. :O  :O .

Apprentices.........Track laying near Canterbury.................

Is that the new Line to Thorpe Park?  :superman:

Back OT.........  given that maps often get made to show changes [as well as OS routine upgrades] is there any clue from the buildings and roads shown on there?

Hawkins and Reeve ( Southern Sheds, OPC 1979) show the shed to have been near Archcliffe Junction, on the south west side of the triangle, to the seaward side of the running lines. It appears to have had one through road, the rest being dead ends facing towards France. It was, they point out, virtually closed during WW2, for the reasons discussed above. Closed 1961, demolished soon after, and sidings laid there instead.

dt post 89 /90 /91

I meant can we have a video of the sounds off your nice rail exclusive SOUND class 47 (you said it had sound so surely it isn't ONLY a puppet / reference Brian Connolly of 'It's only a puppet' fame)

N.B. For anyone confused as to the use of this reference on our (Ferriesdover and Arboretum Valley) previous forum, playing the rule it is my trainset and I'll do what I want...Kal and I often quoted....'It's only a puppet!!!!!' (only in reference to our own layout you understand)

dt/jukebox post 96

Am also curious as to what you plan reference your avatar, noisy??? Moi!!!

Similarly waiting on your signature......

dt post 97

It's a bit rough at the moment, but we can see where your going, and know the standard you are capable of, and thus can't wait for developments.

Good ground work.
