alderson.eric.j
Thanks for your comments. Agree that cab too bright and hoping to pick up a blue filter as you suggested at a local show in a couple of weeks time. Well, another solution is diluting a lighter blue colour with water & alcohol to create your own "blue wash" and then apply it on the cab. This worked well on my models before Vallejo released a blue grey model wash colour... Eric.
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted April 1, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) Just to add a litle to this thread, last night Steve, Chris and the other Steve (All from the Troutons team) gave a presentation at the Wakefield clubrooms about how they prepare and modify rolling stock for the layout. It was an excellent show with the two Steve's mainly concentrating on wagon stock and Chris on Locos. All in all a very good presentation that left me lost in admiration for the attention to detail. enginelane
Week of big drama production at the day job starts today with the tec and dress so limited modelling opps for the coming week but sorted out the figures for the scaffold scene. Boss remains the same with vest added, 2 bellies will be up by the cab, jack hammer man will be moving planks and pick man will have vest and be moving poles. need to make about another 50 scaffold planks to be put into blocks ready for use so looks like the Costa points card will be seeing some action Scalefour North next weekend so looking forward to getting some bits and pieces from traders not normally seen up this neck of the woods

enginelane
In between a very dark episode of Endeavour, no wonder Morse drank so much later in his TV persona, added yellow base colour for vests and started the first of the scaffold plank piles

RichardEyre
Scenic side is 24 feet by 3. With the fiddle yard its about 12 feet deep owing to the large (ish) radius curves.

hammer73
decided to make real logs from small twigs as it looks more realistic and will look good as a rake of timber wagons behind the Colas 56's the wagns will rewuire some bespoke modleing to get them looking something like.
enginelane
Modelling evening at club rooms and it was a session on all the little fiddly jobs. Disguising cracks and adding more detail to the canal with Chris spending the whole evening underpinning the bridges over the canal, work that viewers at exhibitions will not see but needed to be done! enginelane
Bolsters in place. I can confirm it is easier to construct the bolsters as per the instructions ie on the spur one at a time! Yeap there should be thirteen but I have only fitted twelve as broke 2 by not following the instructions!
enginelane
Had another look and 12 instead of 13 bolsters is not the way to go so all off and 13 bolsters are now in place over a base coat of sleeper grime that will represent the first layer of colouring the wooden floor
enginelane
EWS maroon added as a base coat. Managed to get some EWS transfers at Scalefour so will aim to add to missing wagons sometime today

Decided to model with the steel bar load as in the image and made a stsrt laying up and glueing the two layers
enginelane
Additional weathering on floor and wooden strips of the bolsters added. First coat of steel bars applied and general fit of load in place. Made a pigs ear out of the yellow band that this particular wagon has per the the protype image but still think will make an interesting and different wagon when placed amongst the BBA and BRAs of the rest of the steel train Edited April 14, 2014 by enginelane
