Well, I guess, more pix now...

The first panel is attached...

Starting to make a wall

A view of the “feet” on the lower ends of the columns, and the overlap of the wall

And the slots into which the feet fit.

Gluing the stiffener to the inside of the wall, pulls it all flat

And back in its slot on the baseboard

Another view, more panniers...

Nice to see a more overall shot of your layout.

Well, following a bit of a tidy-up, your wish is my command...

And to prove that my approach to modelmaking includes “trial and error”, here’s a bin full of the latter...

And the other thing I did today was to finish the new turntable path structure. Grit and paint now required.

Now as the sun’s shining, off for a stroll and a pint, I think.

Thanks chaps. Comments appreciated.

Looking at the turntable, I think a wall or something is required between the buffers and the backscene. Will give it some thought.

I think I’ll go and burn a couple of roof frames and see how they turn out. Thinking about smoke hoods at the moment.

Looks good Simon. Good enough to bring back memories of walking around on rooves with no more than a few nails half home checking the fit of things. Never did find out what the harness was supposed to be attached to when at the top.

Morning Simon,

The shed and it’s roof and framework look amazing, so much atmosphere already . I think you have found your calling in life, a cottage industry beckons : )

ATB,

Martyn.

thanks Martyn

It's a nice thought, but given the time and efforts (and prodigous quantities of rejects!) involved, I suspect I'd be a poor man...

thanks all for the positive comments

Some more cutting, but no gluing, done this evening.

Thinking ahead (really?) I want to build the rewheeling crane that stood at the end of Aber shed. I believe they were to a standard design, and I have a few photos of Aberystwyth, and Didcot cranes - Didcot’s is still there, of course, indoors, in the lifting shed, whereas Aber’s was outside, on view.

What I’d really like is a drawing or two. There’s a very small outline sketch in Lyons’ 1947 Historical survey, but something a bit bigger would be welcome.

Any ideas?

Cheers chaps

Simon

Well, the roof structure fits. Rather a lot more to do, but all the frames & beams are cut, and 3 of the 14 panels of “planking”

The structure is only two of the longerons and the ridge beam at present, as I reckon if I stick the rest of the beams on, the planking will jam somewhere, so I’d rather get all the bits ready and then have a manic evening with the superglue!

Anyway, here we are

Hi Simon,

Echo the previous comments - wow! Truly stunning and a credit to you - far better than my effort! Well done.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

A little further progress, roof panelling moving forwards. Photos soon from the inside!

It’s all horribly delicate & flimsy at the moment, though I’m sure it will be very tough once assembled. I’m still frustrated that evolution hasn’t provided me with at least three extra independent arms and a prehensile tail.

Coming along very nicely Simon. I've just noticed the purlins on top of the trusses too, are these attached to fillets on the original truss design, whichever method you're using it looks excellent.

Currently waiting for glue to dry.

Grahame, to answer your question,

post-20369-0-62531800-1541444264_thumb.jpeg

The frames have tiny (possibly too tiny!) angled “wedges” to locate the purlins...

post-20369-0-91995200-1541444362_thumb.jpeg

Which, in turn, have pairs of wedges which locate the frames. The purlins also have tags which fit through matching holes in the roof panels, which are etched with plank lines on the inside.

The outside of the roof will be slated, with laser cut strips of slates - I’m experimenting with 300gsm card, which I’m aiming to spray grey, and then wash in very thin acrylic greys, greens and purples to give it a slate-like sheen. The slates currently visible on the boiler house are too thin, and have been a bit damaged at the edges - an early experiment - only about 150gsm.

Hope this answers that one!
