Jack374
Evening.......... The ViTrains DRS 37259 has now had a sealing coat of varnish, so I can now handle it without too much worry! I've now glued on the ends, but for the body to fit I need to file flat the screws where they protrude through the floor. Oh well..... Pictures of the no. 2 end and no.1 end: The coolant pipes have been added to the battery box(es) of 47501 'Craftsman', in the same way as the NB pair (copper wire): Little and large! The Freightliner ballast boxes are now all finished and awaiting painting. The ribs were added the other night. Here they are posed on Tighte End Yard: One of the weathered wagons I've done is a KFA. I hadn't noticed the Freightliner branding on it until I weathered it. You learn something new every day! Aaaaand finally I've added a rim to the scratchbuilt EWS ballast box wagon. It now sits in the pile with the Freightliner boxes ready for primer and then painting. Happy modelling! Jack.
Jack374
Evening, Firstly many thanks for all the likes, they are much appreciated and spur me on greatly! Recently I won a couple of wagons on eBay for a very reasonable price, but what I thought was a Bachy scrap wagon turned out to be a scratchbuilt one, although it is very well built. The buffers were badly done though, so I made new ones from brass rod and plasticard: I also had to scrape the ends flat as they were the wrong pattern, and add new ribs from plastic rod (buffers in situ at this point too): And then I painted them warning panel yellow, but thin enough so the black marks show through and look like weathering: A quick project (literally 2 mins) has been to chop off the ploughs of a 153, and re attach them to the 'buffer beam' (on a DMU?). It looks much better for it. They were attached with offcuts of brass etch, as seen... I've also glued the end on 37259: And lastly started on 977868. I began by filling one window with a plastic blank, and two fully, so the window was just proud of the body (ta for the idea Mick!): Then filed/sanded: Having today primed the coach, it's looking like the superglue filled in any gaps, so I'll probably just sand down the first coat of primer, then add some yellow! More soon, Jack.
Jack374
Now for some weathering! Some of these projects have featured before on my thread but have only just been fully 'finished' due to a lack of weathering/final varnish coat. There's more to come when I do them. Jack. Intercity 125
It seems I'm not the only one who swaps YMRV BR1 bogies for Replica Commonwealths. My excuse is they are railtour coaches whig réduire Commonwealth or B4/5 bogies. Il probable repaint thèm into BR bleu as that si m'y preferred période. IC125 EDIT: The above should read 'they are railtour coaches which require Commonwealth or B4/5 bogies. I'll probably repaint them into BR blue as that is my preferred period.' Jack374
Yeah I'll be repaiting them when I gather a charter rake together, I'm only one coach short I think! Jack.
Jack374
Evening... A little progress on the 'bench. Firstly I've had a crack at finishing the FJA 'Salmon' wagon by adding many vertical plastic strips.... Starting to come together! I've not included mesh as I can't source any small enough! Next I decided to add interior lights to the 'tin rocket' (153). I glued a tea stirrer across the length of the car, then stuck on a strip of LEDs, and wired these direct to the track pickups (they're already AC compatible and resisted): Day: Night: After our local club's open day one of the ploughs has disappeared, only weeks after I glued them on properly! Now for a new project...A rake of 3 TTA tanks to trip to/from fuelling points. These will all be the same shade of grey as the grey one pictured. I've started this as I picked up the two black ones recently for £6 each! To begin, the ladder arrangements need changing to a single ladder type, as seen here http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/UKRailRollingstock/T/TTA-2-axle-tank-wagons/i-ZtHZR57/A. This entailed cutting the walkway on top short, salvaging the two ladders and bending them when heated with a soldering iron to the correct end profile. A walkway was added using the excellent Shawplan EE diamond mesh, and handrails are from wire. Brassmasters etched draw hooks were added too, as I prefer to couple SWB wagons prototypical as they fit round curves without buffer locking. All this is from the kit manufactured by guestimasion&modellerslicense.com. That's all for now, happy 'modding'! Jack.
Jack374
Evening, After school today I thought I'd spray the wagon(s), although I only got 1 done due to school work overload (and I'm not even in Yr11! ). Here's the result, I think the colour is acceptable compared to Bachmann / Hornby's offerings. This is good news as it means a faster route through the 'bench and I don't have to get me airbrush out! Many thanks for the likes and comments, they really spur me on to do something despite teenage pressures! Happy modelling, Jack.
Jack374
Just a quick update this evening.... Firstly the painted TTA tank has been painted black around the buffers/bufferbeam and any underframe bits that got slightly primed: Also restarted the DRS 'Gronk' project by spraying primer on the two body sections. I'd masked off the wasp striped ends as I didn't fancy doing these again! Thanks again for the support through likes/comments, much appreciated! Jack374
Some progress today. Firstly I've decided to get the 'nodding donkey' going again as I'm sick of it staring me in the face on my workbench. Today I've soldered up a light board using tiny SMD LEDs (0603 type), and 1K5 resistors: And wired up, with masking tape around the white ones to get a warm white effect: In position: I know there's a lot of light bleed but I've now sorted it. I've also sprayed all the tankers now, but the two I've done today I need to re do soon. I've also been working on the NMT coaches but the first prime has highlighted many many blemishes so I'll redo them when I've got some more time. I apologise for the speedy update, tea is calling! Hope you like! Jack.
37038
The tanks look good, but I'm really impressed with the 142 lights!
Jack374
It's me again! The TTAs are finally finished sans weathering. The transfers went on a treat (many thanks Mick), and have been sealed in with another gloss coat over the previous one to aid transfer 'silvering'. Both coats have been brush painted, as have the other base colours (red and black). Chassis bits painted: And transfers on and sealed (varnish is not as obvious as in pics): The coaches are progressing, but still no more noticeable progress. When the full primer coat is on I'll update the thread. Also the lights on the DRS 47 have been added, just awaiting lenses (fibre optic strands), then wiring up before pictures. Many thanks, keep on modelling! Jack.

Jack374
Evening! This is the first part of a week/end I've had for a fair few weeks, so I've done some modelling! I've finally finished 47501, as it's been sitting glaring at me for ages. I've added the light boards in the same way as the NB pair previously, and have just fitted the log lenses (1.5mm fibre optic): Just for fun: I've also just restarted the DRS tractor 37259, again it's been on the bench faaaaar too long. I've chopped the chassis short to accept the new bulky light units, the job I was putting off. I had to remove the glued on buffer beams and saw then break with a hacksaw... Not too bad to be honest, the body now sits properly so I can move on. I've also added the windows from the old glazing for all the side pieces, and some new Shawplan front windscreens. These were the wrong size as I ordered them wrong, so I had to fettle them and I broke two in the process. These have been replaced with the original ones filed down. That's all for now, I may get some more done now as I'm on a roll.....hopefully! Keep on modding! Jack.
big T
I've enjoyed reading this thread jack, and think you have got some very good skills, which some more seasoned modellers would be proud of! Keep up the good work and supply more photos! Nice one Trev
Jack374
Many thanks Trev! Yesterday I put the body on the chassis of the 37, and wow, what a beast it looks! May get it finished tonight, then some piccies! Jack.
Jack374
Hi all, First of all many thanks for the likes and feedback, much appreciated The 37 is now fully finished minus weathering. The last job was to re attach the buffer beams using a 10BA bolt and nut, a simple job of drilling a hole through both the chassis and bufferbeam. It was also secured with a little superglue for extra strength. So, some piccies! All these are posed on my 'Tighte End Yard' layout, which I had a play on earlier: More piccies can be found here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/82745-tighte-end-yard-drs-items-for-sale/?p=1936153 (Give me chance to upload them first though!) Next project may be DRS' 37419 from a second hand Bachy model, I won it for £50 and it's the smoothest running engine I've (now) got! Thanks, Jack. Jack374
Evening all, Yet another active day today, not least because of the 15 miles on the bike, because I've had a bit of an assessment of projects. First though, 37259 has been taken out of traffic briefly and travelled back 'oop norf for some rectification work. The fitters found they hadn't ticked off the silver paint job, so it has had silver steps and handrails added: Also, 977868 has been back in the shed for fitment of a new window frame and roof adornments. The former is from paper (), and the latter are from more punched paper and plasticard: This has since had a coat of primer, and all is looking good. Finally, a quick view of the 'posterboard' above the bench, with various yellow coaches (are you proud Mick? ), and a sneaky hint at summer projects, most of which are just finishing existing projects, however something even more blue and red may feature...let's see! Enjoy, Jack.

Jack374
Cheers Neil! I'd like a few more yellow coaches but time and money won't allow it! Jack.
class"66"
Im thinking of doing another drs 37 or 57 soon..
Jack374
Evening..I think it's time for an update! So...67017 has been finished minus weathering (must do some over summer), which entailed fitting new cab interiors and lights. The wiring of the lights was fairly simple using SMD LEDs, some copper clad and resistors... I also had a go at wethering (hypocrite!) the generator 6263, which has languished in a draw for many months. I finally ordered the transfers from Railtec so have finished this project by applying g a grey wash from Humbrol 32-a certain Mr Makin's trick-which has added more definition to the door gaps and grilles. Much trial and error was involved but I think it's ok. Finally, after having some small sections of track left over from 'Fordley' (shameless bump), I've added a load to the 'salmon' with securing insulation tape: Off for a week now in Iceland with school...no railways I'm told! Happy modelling! Jack.
