RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted January 22, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2018 Just acquired a scanner (on loan), so thought I maight add my two penn'orth Self explanatory, 1981, just after Woodhead closed Reddish 1981. just look at the reflection in the side of the 76. Highly polished before being scrapped, or what? Two for the price of one. Guide Bridge 1981, same day as the others. I think we went there in October of '81, to see what was left of the Woodhead, and were quite surprised to be able to clear, effectively, all of the 76's which had been in traffic at the closure. More to follow when I have some time. Regards Ian

Andy Louch
All, many thanks for posting your selections. Always loved the 'Tats' when we saw them in Brum. My preference is the 'split-box' version! Always try to attend one gala a year with a 40 present Memories, memories!!
RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted January 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 24, 2018 What was the number of the 40 ,with split headcode box & discs? After 35 years, my spotting notes are long gone, as are some of my memories. In fact, I had to look back at the photos to see if it was one of mine that you were referring to. I had never even noticed the split box/disc combination before. I am sure that someone will be along soon enough to tell us which one it was, and which bits are original, and which are repairs/mods. Best regards Ian
Nick G
What was the number of the 40 ,with split headcode box & discs? I think 40127, it only had the doors with H/C Discs like that at number 2 end.

RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted January 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 24, 2018 Fascinating looking through those, and I agree, 127 it is. Also of note is that one of the two shots of 127 was taken in the same platform at Guide Bridge as mine, but the loco is facing the opposite direction Regards Ian PS Can I underline it in my ABC now?

drgj
I was asking this in another forum but no replies. I am sure that 40 010 had the larger double arrows in the 70s but a picture when scrapped shows the smaller normal ones. Would this loco have had a repaint in between? I am modelling this loco as in the 70s. Dave

Dave It averaged about 4 or 5 years between general overhauls, subject to major failures etc not necessitating earlier shopping, so it would be possible.
