RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted June 5, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 5, 2017 Whilst saving for the decoder for the green 37 I've made a start on the blue one, not to much to shout about but here's some pics, a bit of cosmetic work to the nose to remove the brackets and a couple of layers of weathering, I wasn't to pleased at first of how it was coming along but the more time I'm spending on it the happier I am. Cheers

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted July 17, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2018 Thought I’d was about time I updated this thread as it’s been far to long, I’ve done quite a few commissions of late, as well as working on some of my own and planning a much needed micro/photo board so again apologies for the lack of updates. This is what I’ve been working on this week but over the next couple of days I’ll post pics of the locos I’ve been working on. It’s took me a while to perfect the faded look but I think I cracked it last night on the first of two 20’s I’m doing for a client. Cheers

sb67
I love the faded look on the class 20 and the texture really works well with O gauge. That is some fine weathering there, great stuff. Steve.

Thanks Steve I’ve been working on the faded look for a while trying various methods but this one really works well, as for textures it’s something I though was really important in O Gauge, I’m smaller scales you can get away with just paint but in 7mm you don’t get away with much so I always feel a build up in grime etc is so important. Thanks again

I’ve used a few methods in the past which have worked quite well such as a fibre pen and using white washes, this time I’ve tried something new I’ve been working on, normally I’d happily tell everyone but as it’s took me a good few months I’m keeping this close to my chest for now, hope you understand but the weathering business is pretty tough at the moment with all the excellent weatherers out though. millerhillboy
The textures on the gronks on the bottom half is lovely, but as you say at 7mm paint and washes alone would be too flat. You still need to get the textures spot on though, which you have. Buffers are great too.

Thanks mate I’ve used powders and paints in 4mm and they do work well but they work so much better in 7mm due to the larger size etc. I’ll try an get more photos up soon. RMweb Premium Barry O Posted July 20, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 20, 2018 paint isn't good enough in 4mm as well..you still need textures. Sometimes it needs to be very subtly for 4mm but in 7mm best to give a bit more texture to get it right. Baz

Baz Totally agree Baz powders give that extra dimension to weathering which is certainly needed in 7mm and in most cases in 4mm. Cheers
RMweb Gold jcarta Posted July 25, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2018 Spot on weathering matey..... What Matt varnish do you use to seal your weathering? Jim
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted July 29, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2018 Spot on weathering matey..... What Matt varnish do you use to seal your weathering? Jim Thanks Jim, I’ve used a few different types I tend to seal the initial weathering with matt varnish from hobby craft out of a rattle can, short bursts from a distance, but I find the final sealing is best done using Railmatch matt varnish using the airbrush. Hope that helps and thanks again
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted August 15, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 15, 2021 Evening everyone like my other threads it’s been a while since I posted on here and although I haven’t done much modelling of late I have managed to get a few locks weathered since my last post. here’s a couple of videos
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted October 29, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 29, 2021 (edited) So again I must apologise as it’s been a while since I posted on this thread and a lot has happened over the last few months. I decided a couple of weeks ago to return to 4mm with a little 2mm side project when I get time, my O gauge layout has been sold and I’m slowly selling off my 7mm locos (if anyone is interested please pm me). The other week I made a start on weathering and lowering a Bachmann 40 and up to now I’m pretty pleased with the results, I had fitted the lifting brackets but since lowering the body these were catching so I’ll have to make slightly smaller ones and fit them next week. Up to now so far so good Edited October 29, 2021 by PjKing1
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted March 7, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2022 Quite a few locos on the work bench at the moment, cl20 and the first Duff are finished, a little bit more to do on the AL5 and the blue 47
Les Johnson
Hi Paul just been through’Dirty Diesels’ and love the OO gauge O8’s, especially the heavily weathered green one. Can I ask which of the 08’s from the various manufacturers is the best runner/best detailed, Best Buy generally. also I don’t know if you’ve mentioned it elsewhere but what controller are you using for dcc? many thanks Les

As for the controller I use an ECoS they are not cheap but they are worth every penny and so easy to use. Hope that helps mate
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted September 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2022 So once again it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, but I do promise to keep this page updated. Over the last few months I’ve weathered a couple of 47’s and AC locos and I’ve detailed and weathered D326 with another 40 just arrived which will be getting extra detail and lowered.
