lucasluckydelux
I haven't been able to read everything yet but it looks promising. I am looking forward to see the layout for real in the Romsey exhibition next month.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted February 12, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 12, 2018 (edited) Evening chaps I had a productive weekend as regards the reworking/refreshing of the layout and I promise this is the last update! It's all done apart from the possible addition of a couple of trees. First up two views of the station building end of the platform and station forecourt. The landslip retaining steel at the board joint with plenty of greenery, much happier with the look now. Part of the 'cliff face' with much more green stuff thrown about. Two full length views of the completed works to the chalk face which is much less in your face now! Lastly one of the catch pits that have been added between the platform road and loop, The track around the station has also been given a bit more weathering particularly where trains would be stood dropping oil! There we go then all ready for this year's shows starting with Romsey in three weeks time, say hello if you're visiting. UnauthorisedCinnamon
Do you mind me asking - how big is your station building? I quite like the footprint size relative to the platform

7APT7
Hi Your station building is absolutely stunning, excellently made. Each time I look at your building, it just reminds me so much of Bescot just off Junc9, M6. (See Attached Two Photos) I'm taking it as scratch built, if so, did you base it on anywhere particular... because it looks really nice, I have to say. Managed to dig a couple of photos out, that's why your station building looks so good and lifelike, when I see the Bescot version. Look forward to seeing more of your layout buildings etc... 7APT7
Funny... searching through my photos to find some good close up's of the building... I've only just noticed that Bescot had a small refit between the two photos, I notice the door handles are Green in one and Yellow in the Other, the Photo Dates are Bescot 05Oct2014 (Right End Nearest with satellite dish on the side) and Bescot 24May2009 (Left End Nearest in the shade more) Regards Jamie
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted February 13, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 13, 2018 Hi Jamie It funny you should think of Bescot, I took lots of pics of it when I was planning the layout! It was definitely used as inspiration as well as Hedge End station near Southampton which I also spent time looking at. In the end I used the Scalescenes download and built it the opposite way around to give the station entrance at the end I wanted. It was also stretched by an extra 20mm and the cardboard overlaid with plasticard sheets on the roof and walls to give relief and extra strength. Layout looks great Ian, really looking forward to trying to remember all the routes for the Romsey show. Your right in the fact that the chalk bank is less pronounced now with the extra greenery. Great job. Pretty sure the scalescenes kit is based on Trowbridge. I built a mockup sometime ago for my layout too but this was dropped for Bradford on Avon. RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted February 19, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 19, 2018 (edited) Evening all I know I said there'd be no more 'rework updates' but this really is the last! After a suggestion from Mike(Mr Oak Road) a couple of trees have been added at the station forecourt to give " a bit more height and depth", hopefully that box is now ticked! The three fellas positioned around the fuelling point have been 'backdated' by the removal of hard hats and removing a lot of HiViz hopefully to good effect. I am now definitely leaving the layout as is so that I can start on the large pile of new stock that needs weathering/detail etc. on the workbench. Right about those bl**dy curtains on the 4TC.............................. Edited October 18, 2022 by Temeraire

RMweb Gold Revolution Mike B Posted February 20, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) That looks amazing Ian - at first glance, the ribs on the garage door looked like overhead power cables. 7APT7
Hi Ian It's Interesting seeing some of the other photos of 'Real Places', makes me wonder if there is a 'Blue Print' that most of these smaller station buildings get based on, a bit like every McDonalds/KFC drive in's have that typical look of the fast food industry and all the buildings seem to be based on the look, as an example. There seem to be some good similarities between the buildings which I guess is why some look the same. Great Thread Ian, nice catching up, as I've been out a bit just lately. Look forward to seeing more of your works on the layout Ian. Regards Jamie
SparxD428
Refreshments are looking good for Romsey next week mate. Although at first glance i thought that was Adolf Hitler outside the fuel point office ! See you Saturday Cheers Stu
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted March 2, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2018 Afternoon all, Unfortunately this weekends outing to Romsey has just fallen foul of the weather I'm afraid.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted March 15, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2018 Evening all So after the disappointment of the Romsey show being cancelled and missing out on playing trains, and with the 'boss' away this weekend, I've arranged a meet up for take out and trains on Friday evening with some of the usual suspects coming over. So tonight I put the layout back up in the garage and took some pics of recent workbench escapees! First up 33117 arrives with the 4TC. I bought this when I ordered the TC but it has only just come out of its box for renumbering and weathering. This has released Nigel's 33 back to him, cheers Nigel. Next to arrive was 37417 'Highland Region' one of the St Blazey pool. Again this was purchased nearly two years ago for use on Exford Park but only reached the workbench this month! The ETH 37 runs round its train. '417 has deposited a newly purchased and heavily weathered Heljan Cargowagon in the Switch loading bay. The second recently acquired Cargowagon (again weathered this week) has been left in the siding for unloading later and the 37 can be seen behind in the clay siding with a couple of bullets for filling. 37068 'Grainflow' comes to stand with an MoD train allowing the Thumper to get the green light behind. Again this loco has been in its box a while but gained weathering and chipping etc this month. '68 now runs around it's train of empty warflats. The Romsey show has been rescheduled for June 23-24th so that will be the first outing for the layout this year. There you go that's what's been happening in the Tidworth world this month and I'm sure there will be more pics tomorrow night.
