Rhysb
A thoroughly enjoyable evening with Ian last night at Tidworth learning the layout and routes to help Ian at shows next year. Only crashed and shorted out one train all night too! A fantastic layout and thanks again Ian. Tidworth also had a visitor with Regional Railways adding Tidworth to the Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central Alphaline service. Here Alphaline class 158 stands at the platform awaiting departure back out to Cardiff Central via Bristol. A small diversion from its usual Wessex route.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted December 9, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) Evening all So having now got both the garage and the shed in some sort of order, Tidworth has been set up in the garage for a while now for a couple of playdays. However, today I packed away all the trains to get on with the remedial works to the platform that I've been putting off for too long. The platform edging had come adrift from the baseboard causing the platform surface to rise up in front of the station building. So this afternoon I cracked on with the demolition work! Very quickly the building and other furniture were removed from the platform and set aside for refitting later. Site cleared ready to start putting things back. First the trackbed was secured down with superglue and weighed down whilst drying. Platform edging stuck back in place including a bit extra cut away after it turned out it was worse than I thought! Looking the other way with all the edging levelled and in position. A good start today and now that work is underway I can dabble whenever I've got 5 mins to spare back filling and replacing the platform surface. I plan to finish off the roadway outside the station entrance properly too as this had never been completed . There are also various other bits and pieces to sort as well as one or two additional extras to be added all before the next outing to Romsey in March. I also need to make repairs to the traverser's shield as this was damaged by someone leaning on the signs saying 'please do not lean on this surface'! RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted December 24, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 24, 2017 (edited) Afternoon all Just a quick seasonal update of where I'm at with the reworking of the platform. Once the platform edging had been refixed the platform was backfilled again and the surface built up with 5 layers of card. View from the other side shows that the roadway outside is only 3 layers of card to give a kerbside edge to the road this time which was missing previously. It's got a couple of days to properly dry out now before I give the filler surface a light sanding and then move onto painting etc. All that is left is to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and thank you to all that have commented or contributed to Tidworth over the last year, but especially the 'Tidworth on the road crew' for their help and assistance with this year's exhibitions. See you on the other side fellas. Edited October 18, 2022 by Temeraire

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 24, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 24, 2017 That's not snow, that's chalk, you only have to scratch the ground in the area and chalk shows through. The MSWJR even used chalk as ballast to start with...

Beresford Junction
Hi Ian Just catching up and liking the re-modelled platform - hopefully all dry by now. I was a bit surprised by the wine selection! Must catch up with the Tidworth crew again soon - now where is that reset button! Phil

I was a bit surprised by the wine selection! Must catch up with the Tidworth crew again soon - now where is that reset button! Phil Hi there stranger! The wines are not my selection, not enough red for me, they were just the closest to hand! I was thinking it was time for an update soon as the platform is in the process of receiving many coats of greyish colours and some other bits and pieces are being added one by one. Once done I'll take a pic and leave it to everyone to 'spot the differences'! If you around for any length of time you must come over for a looksee.
sharkman
Like the overall appearance and nicelly done trackwork which can make or break a layout - well done.
D9JEF
Hi Ian, All looking good. A quick question for you - how have you made the rosebay willowherb? I need something for Manor Road and like how you have done it. Apologies if I have missed it earlier in the thread. Thanks Jeff
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted January 10, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 10, 2018 All looking good. A quick question for you - how have you made the rosebay willowherb? Thanks Jeff. Once I'd googled it, it turns out I haven't made any! Maybe its the Buddlea bushes you've noticed, that I didn't make either? The Buddlea was made by Mrs 'Kipford' a while back and I think the base is pieces of seamoss with flock added and then I believe food paints for the leaf colour and flowers. D9JEF
Cheers Ian, I assume we are both talking about the purple flowering bushes you have. Horticulture is not one of my strongest subjects... Jeff
