When in or anywhere near Halifax,I recommend a visit to The Shibden Mill Inn.A family run hostelry, very secluded but beautifully situated.Lovely rooms, great food and breakfast. Close by is Shibden Hall which some of you will recognise from the BBC drama “Gentlemen Jack “which is in the care and ownership of the local authority and also well worth a visit. The inn is difficult to find and one approach is very steep over an old cobbled road so use satnav for the easier way there..

A few from tonight’s sunset in silloth, amazing how far across it is this time of year compared to the summer months

Possibly my last sunset here as I’m heading back to work tomorrow morning and we are leaving the holiday park at the end of the season having had 10 good years up here as owners, it’s time to move on, the fees have become a burden now, so much so that what we pay can get us a few foreign holidays and long weekends in other parts of the country in better accommodation than we own up here so we’re having a few years away from the place exploring and we may look at ownership again in the future, quite sad to be leaving but also quite looking forward to seeing new places, even in this country I’ve never been to the likes of Whitby, Norfolk and the Isle of Man!

Drove up to silloth tonight for the caravan owners end of season party on Saturday night, it’s absolutely clear here, not a cloud in the sky and very very dark so the stars are really bright

not a fantastic pic

Final few bits to clear from the van before the end of November then that’s us done, off on new adventures

Seasons greetings to all!

A somewhat mixed bag of weather in NW Cumbria over the last month with waterproofs almost always required for forays beyond the garden.

Regular visits to the Staffordshire Moorlands to visit family and friends have provided opportunities to frequent old haunts once more. A stroll along the Churnet valley from Consall towards Leek on a bitterly cold but calm Winter morn offered this view along the canalised section of the River Churnet nr The Black Lion pub.

A day of heavily overcast skies and heavy rain in Silloth gave way to clearing skies and bright sunshine just before sunset...

The recent wet weather has, as usual, had an effect on the River Ouse through York on 17th February 2024.

Judging from the condition of the riverside footpath it had been much higher in recent days.

A rare sunny morning in West Yorkshire on 24th February 2024, so an opportunity to enjoy a canal side walk.  And with Spring not too far away now there was a pleasant warmth to the sunshine.

The magnolia at the bottom of the garden is starting to drop a bit, but it had a really good show for a short while.

The cherry blossom out the front is in bloom.

Travelling around, the hedges are a blaze of white hawthorn and blackthorn flowers....

Daffs are everywhere. The house is redolent of hyacinths.

You are nearer God's peace in a garden, than anywhere else on Earth...
