More likely that the Queens Own Highlander is having a wee word in private with the Type 4 laddie about standards of personal grooming.

A very humble offering of 2 rather poor quality images.

Date 2/1/1982

No more explanation other than a young man and his dodgy camera found Craigentinny footpath was busy but it was nothing nothing compared to the suburban platform at Waverley that day.

Would that be the prints from a 126 camera, I had Kodak instamatic 126 one, the pictures I took were bloomin awful!

Has anyone got photos of 55016 at Exeter St Davids on 28/11/81?   I was there and my camera jammed, film snapped and that was that!  Still remember the sound as it went up to Exeter Central though, fantastic.

Yes but I only had a 126 Instamatic camera, the pictures are, well, not good would be one (polite) discription I could use!

Way way back on 3.8.78 I visited Thirsk and snapped 55019 zooming south past a steam age water crane, ancient colour light signals and in the background a rake of flat wagons which were used to unload tanks for Catterick. Thirsk was a difficult place to visit because the train service was very poor in those days with sometimes 2 hour gaps inbetween trains! When I took this photo "You're The One That I Want" by John Travolta and Olivia Neutron Bomb would be playing on my Benkson transistor radio   :senile:

A close up of her nameplate then back on the train. Luckily the Deltics had a bit of time in hand at stations like Barnetby!

D9000 ROYAL SCOTS GREY leaving Reading on 1S87 the Saturdays-only Ramsgate to Edinburgh in the summer of 1998. Despite having the authority and plenty of opportunities, this was the only time I took a photo at this location.

No picture, but I remember when the news went round the Tech Centre at Derby that a Deltic was on its way with a dead Peak heading for Derby Works. Must have been in 1980/1. In the offices of Brunel House we heard the beast before seeing it, even though it was running on one engine only. I wish I could remember which one it was.

These pictures pose an interesting question, did she have twin wipers at one end and single on the other, or was the conversion done in the time between the two photos?

Honestly no idea but this guy may well know  http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/

On 30.8.81 55002 ran an Adex from Newcastle to Whitby via Sunderland and even though I had been bashing the previous day I simply couldn't miss it !

Here she is entering Sunderland station with the grandparents finding themselves surrounded by young men with Black Sabbath t shirts carrying Adidas bags

Re the wipers, I don't see a loco with only a short life expectancy being modified. Having spent many hours peering through said windscreens, I didn't take much notice of what locos had twin or single wipers! Twin wipers were prone to getting jammed up at high speed.

Another view of the purple one.

I remember thinking it sounded better than it looked, but I don't suppose it's too bad, and at least it's still here!

Cheers,

Phil.
