Nottingham 45101 St Pancras to Sheffield  Aug 75 C2247

Nice picture for showing the corridor handrail on a Mk2d FK - even with tinted windows, the orange(?) handrails are very visible.

Good evening, David. That’s a delightful set of photo’s of Morpeth, from the early 1980’s. In C6386, of 45108, on an up Sunday ballast train, in January, 1984, it is a well composed shot, in the snow, of the Peak.

The photo’s of the Great Eastern at Manningtree, are a superb selection, and in the first one of a Class 37, on a Liverpool St. to Harwich service, in January, 1976, that’s a great shot of the train, in the distance, and the fifth carriage can be seen to be a Gresley buffet car, one of the last survivors at that time.

In the photo’s of Nottingham Victoria, in black and white, from the early 1950’s, you have an excellent and historical set and thank you for posting them. In the first photo’ of a class J1, on a down passenger train from Grantham to Derby Friargate, c1950, that is a superb view, with the train composed of two Gresley twin art non corridor carriages. That last photo’ of V2, 60831, running light engine, and a B1, in c1954, along with a very young you, is a lovely shot, and one which will bring back happy memories for you.

Finally, the photo’s of Nottingham Midland in the 1970’s, are an excellent selection. In C2251, of a four car Class 104, on a Nottingham to Skegness service, in August, 1975, it can be seen that there are luggage racks opposite the toilets, and the internal finish is a light green finish, unlike the LMR sets with a wooden finish. Along with the guards van being in the second car, that all makes it a former NER unit.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

C2246 - a shame you didn’t record the loco numbers; Class 20s in green with TOPS numbering were not that common.

Looks like 20017, which ties in with a Rail Express produced list some years ago now, which read 20014-8/20-3/5/6/45/7/56/75, 129-33/7/8/40/1/4-7/9-56/8/62/4/5/7/9/70/4/5/7, 228

20017 was allocated to Immingham at the time so it is possible.

I think it might be 20047 which was a D16 (Nottingham Dvision) loco at the time.

I've looked at the original scan and and am sure it ends in 7, the number next to it looks thicker than a 1 and seems to have a slope hence my suggestion.

Nottingham Victoria in black and white from the early 1950s.  The last photo includes me when I was about 5 years old.

Once again Dad was making use of his track permit for most of the photos.

I'm pretty sure JVol4031 appeared recently on Facebook, in one of the "Memories of Steam"  groups. Your father was acknowledged as the photographer in the comments following, but not in the header

Thanks for the information.

I can't find it there but have given up tracking down every thing which gets copied.

I've found several of my photos on Facebook usually put in as links from flickr which also has a copy of the image in my photostream on there (DavidWF2009).

EDit - I have now found the photo on facebook.

Some interesting local pictures for me today -thank you!
    - One observation is that no one quite does ‘milling around’ better than Railtour passengers! Not sure if general ‘milling around’ is particularly a British thing but it has certainly been perfected by Railtour users (myself included in the past).

Good evening, David. That’s a delightful set of photo’s of Weardale, County Durham, on the line betwen Bishop Auckland and Eastgate, on the 23rd May, 1987. In C8516, at Eastgate, of Blue Circle cement, Thomas Hill, shunter, you have captured an excellent portrait shot of the locomotive.

That’s a great set of photo’s of electrics at Lichfield and Elmhurst, in January, 1976. In the last photo’ at Elmhurst, with 84005, on a down freight train, that is a beautifully composed shot of the 84 and train.

What a fascinating selection of photo’s of Exton Park Quarry. They will indeed be of much use for modellers. In VJ1207, with Sundew, in May, 1973, along with your Mum with one of the quarry managers, you have such an exquisite photo’. It’s great to see your Mum in that photo’.

Finally, the photo’s of Prestonpans, east of Edinburgh, along with one in Princes Street Gardens, are all superb, and C8940, at Prestonpans, of 26007, on a down light engine movement, on the 11th August, 1987, being a delightful portrait photo’ of the locomotive.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

VJ1207 really shows the size of the dragline, because you can see in that shot just how small the cab is. It must have taken a bit more than a 13 amp socket to power it!

And it would need a big layout with plenty of headroom to include one.

Fascinating.

Those Radwell shots are very nice Dave, proper 'train in the landscape' stuff. The slow lines viaduct there is subject to 20mph or 30mph speed restrictions these days with certain types of wagon when fully loaded, it often feels like a very slow slog between Sharnbrook and Bedford, with restrictions on nearly all of the bridges and viaducts on the route.

The Nottingham pics posted earlier are superb too 😉

Radwell viaduct looks very easy to model, though probably shortened considerably.

And 86426 looks very nice, a contrast to 85009 which looks very dull in comparison, and not I think just because it is a bit dirty.

Thanks also for the Interlaken photos. I went there once but not when anything special was happening.

I have, though, travelled over most of the MOB. A great trip from Montreux to Zweissimmen if you can fit it in,  and a nice cable car up the local mountain when you get there.

And a fascinating range of locos at Interlaken.

Good afternoon, David. That is an excellent set of photo’s of Radwell, on the Midland main line, between Bedford and Wellingborough, from the 11th April, 1975. In the first photo’ of a class 45, on a down express passenger train, it is a great shot of the train as it runs over the low height viaduct.

The photo’s of Carlisle, on the 1st September, 1987, and the 12th April, 1988, are a superb set. In the first photo’ of 86246, on a down freightliner, on the 12th April, 1987, you have captured a superb portrait shot of the locomotive as the driver either enters or steps down out of the cab.

That’s a most delightful and atmospheric set of photo’s from Switzerland, at Interlaken Ost, on the 12th August, 1988. In the first photo’ of BVZ, HGe4/4, 12, that is a splendid portrait shot of the electric locomotive.

Finally, the photo’s of the Great Eastern, at Shenfield, Chelmsford and Boreham, are  a great selection, and C4592, at Chelmsford, with a Class 37, hauling an up passenger train, in June, 1979, is an excellent composition of the train running across the viaduct with lovely reflections in the water.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

I take it the new-looking Down line is because it was relaid after the derailment & collision which led to the demise of DP2?

EDIT: had a quick look and I see Raskelf is right next to (South of) Pilmoor

@DaveF You must've been on Hag Lane? Overbridge and cottages as shown in J904
