Hi Dave - excellent photos but the second one has the wrong caption..

Now corrected so it actually says St Ives - obviously not the Great Western one.

Good evening, David. That’s a terrific selection of photo’s of Bressingham in 1972  and 1973. In C1127, of Hunslet, ex-Penrhyn Gwynedd, in August, 1972, you have taken a delightful, well composed photo’ of the engine.

The photo’s of Porthmadog and Criccieth, on the Cambrian Coast line, are a superb set. In the last photo’, of a Class 101, on an up passenger train in July, 1972, your Dad has taken a truly beautiful shot of the train in the stunning Welsh  countryside.

The six assorted photos in the east are an excellent selection. In J2190, at St James Deeping, with a Class 114, on a Peterborough to Grimsby service, in August, 1970, your Dad has taken a most interesting photo’. It shows a rare sight of a van being hauled by a DMU. Sadly not many photo’s of this tail traffic seem to exist.

Finally, the mixed bag of photo’s are of much interest. In J352, at Hemingbrough, with a Class 37, on an up parcels working, in September, 1965, your Dad has captured a well composed shot of a once everyday sight. Sadly much has changed since that time.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Hi

That's 76008 not 76003 as 76003 never received MU cables as 76003

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

Many thanks, I've corrected the caption.  When I posted it I wasn't quite sure what the number was.

Those 4VEPs look odd with plain blue and the small yellow panels. I would have expected much more of the front to be yellow in the "blue" period

Jonathan

They were almost brand new when photographed, being the first batch to be built (Units 7701 - 7720).  They were regarded as outer suburban not Inter City stock when built so they were painted in plain blue, including the window frames (at least in the two photographs here, some sources say some had unpainted frames).

They had the very small yellow panels, later batches had the full width panels on the lower half of the front ends until full yellow ends were introduced.

The double arrows were cast aluminium.

The full Bournemouth electric service started on 10th July 1967.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic selection of photo’s of Quorn, on the preserved Great Central Railway, in the 1970’s. In C4113, of the N2, 4744, on a Loughborough to Rothley service, in August, 1978, you have taken a great and well composed photo’ of the locomotive.

The photo’s of West Coast electrics from Standon Bridge and one around Greenholme, are full of interest. In C2819, of 86210 hauling 81015, on a down express passenger train in June, 1976, that’s an excellent photo’ of the train, and the 81 with it’s pan down.

That’s a delightful set of photo’s of three locations on the Southern. In C2654, at Upstreet, with a Class 47, on an up light engine movement, in March, 1976, you have taken a most superb shot of the 47.

Finally, the photo’s of the Midland in the north, with one photo at Rylstone on the Grassington branch, with the rest on the Settle and Carlisle over the years, are a atmospheric and interesting selection. In J0859, at Ribblehead, with an LMS Class 5, on a down goods train in the distance, and a BR 9F, on an up goods train, in April, 1967, your Dad has taken a classic photo’ of the trains as they cross the famous viaduct.

With warmest regards,

Rob.
