Just to let you all know that the Midland Railex Website has now been updated, please visit http://www.rmweb.co.uk/midlandrailex/

In addition I can now provide details of this years prices, we have held the costs for the last 3 years, but we now have to unfortunately increase costs slightly, in order to maintain the quality of the show.

I personally think that the prices are still good value, when you consider all the other attractions on site, you will note that the term "Train Fare" is used this will allow you access to all Midland Railex areas over the weekend in addition to your Train rides.

Train Fares for Midland Railex will be:

£13.50 Adult

£12.50 Senior

£6.75 Child

£33.75 Family (Two Adults and up to Three Children)

Under 5 years free, when with a paying Adult or Senior.

all the above Train Fares are inclusive of Gift Aid (* see notes at base for more information on Gift Aid)

The Train Fare for Midland Railex allows:

A/Unlimited  Standard gauge train rides on the day of issue.
B/ Access to all Model Railway exhibits at the Midland Railway, during the  Midland Railex .

In addition:

Car parking is free at Butterley Station.( access to event via Butterley Station only)

A complimentary Show Guide will also be provided, when you purchase your Train Ticket.

Gift Aid Notes:

Anyone who is a UK Taxpayer and signs up for  Gift Aid will receive a voucher that can be spent in the MR-B shops or Buffets as shown below:

Examples are:

1/Adult  would receive a voucher for the  value of £2.00

2/ Family would receive a voucher for the  value of £4.50

Gift Aid is quite a complex subject to deal with and more details, will be given on the Railex website.

Sounds like good value as there are usually plenty of trains to ride during the day. It is always a good show and there is even more to see this year with a display of vintage vehicles added to the event this year too. Looking forward to another good show.

**Special News**

Train fare prices for Ashover Coach No.4s launch back into passenger traffic for the first time since the late 1930's on the 16th & 17th August will be £5 per person. Each passenger will receive an individually numbered commemorative ticket featuring an ALR scene.

We regret that sadly due to its design featuring narrow doors, ALR No.4 is not disabled friendly, however we will endeavour to accomodate our disabled visitors as much as possible.

Trains will be hauled by Baldwin 4-6-0T No.778 visiting from the Leighton Buzzard Railway.

Ashover Light Railway comes back to life

See photo in above post

The coach came out of the shed for the first time on 3rd July for tests to check

clearances as the coach is much larger than the Golden Valley Light Railway vehicles.

The coach looked magnificent despite the fact that there is still a lot of work to be

 done.

Over the weekend of the 16th and 17th August a Baldwin 4-6-0 steam locomotive and

Baldwin and D Class wagon arrived at Butterley this afternoon for the Midland Railex.

For a short time they were posed  together with the Ashover coach, to recreate a scene from the Ashover Light Railway, not seen in Derbyshire in over 80 years.

Was lucky enough to go for a test run in the coach hauled by a Diesel, was really surprised how smooth the ride was, the interior and exterior look fantastic.

Really looking forward to seeing the Baldwin in steam with the coach in August.

Will post a Railex update in the next few days.

Midland Railex Layout update:

I am pleased to confirm an additional three visiting layouts to our line up for 2014

A/ Fenby Quay from our friends at the local Ilkeston Club  OO steam 1950's

B/ Ingelby Junction a LMS Midlands inspired layout OO.

C/ The Ashover Light Railway Society are bringing a 009 layout based on Ashover Butts.

Having done the calculations I think we now have 26 visiting layouts for this year, plus with another 7 already on site at Butterley and Swanwick this makes a total of over 33 layouts to see over the weekend.

That is not including the outdoor G scale or the miniature railways, so should be something for everyone.

Will post the show guide PDF early next week.

  • RMweb Gold

Not going to make it this year :(

It's SWMBO's birthday on Saturday and we have another party to attend as well. George also visited last Monday so probably won't want another visit so soon. I also can't spare the time in the run up to RMweb Live! Soooooo many things to do on Fourgig

Gutted, as a shareholder I feel I should make the effort, but alas it won't be so THIS year

Looking forward to it.

Do come and find us and say hello in the HMRS building at the far end of the Mathew Kirtley Museum building - access from the walkway inside the building. A good selection of layouts of historical significance will be operating.

On the evidence of a couple of years ago, if you can avoid rushing off to do your shopping, then find us early on as it can get uncomfortably full around lunch time!.

And don't overlook there will be some good offers in the 2nd hand bookshop just inside the door of the HMRS HQ. I believe Tony is working hard on getting a new large donation sorted in time for Saturday.

It's normally 10-5 Graham.

Can I encourage the show team to publish the access arrangements - I know that it is not at Swanwick Junction, but via trains via Butterley (or walking I assume as this is permitted from Butterley). I have certainly read about this - it may be in this thread but a heads up on the arrangements would be useful.

Last year official opening was 10 but the first train rolled into Butterley about 09:40, much to the consternation of some of the exhibitors and traders.

Cracking day out if you're thinking of going.

Edit - got my stations the wrong way round - train left Butterley, rolled into Swanwick about 09:40.

Train did leave early last year to prevent overcrowding on the platform at Butterley, however the Stewards at Swanwick were not informed quickly enough of this decision!  Official opening time is 10.00 at Swanwick, but we are geared up to accept customers from 09-45 all Exhibitors and Traders notified of this.

If a shuttle does arrive slightly before 09-45, access will not be permitted to buildings until this time as Stewards will be on duty at all buildings.

However the Johnston Buffet will be open and you are most  welcome to have a look around the external exhibits on display at Swanwick.
