That's at least 26 foot then for the length in the garage and that junction element is going to point out at least 8 foot at a diagonal which you will have to be able to get around to reach the other cassettes from the main.

I would plan out the whole thing so you can see exactly how much space it will require and then how you will fit it into the garage allowing for any curves you plan if you need to bend the layout to fit.  As it's a through line you'll be spending a lot of time setting up cassettes to send and receive trains so you need to be able to navigate the three elements.  How about looking at a reversal curve so the trains go out and back from a cassette fiddleyard - a lot more train running and a lot less fiddling.  Same scenic plan as you have now but arranged like Apethorn Junction:

Cheers mate I’ll take a look 😃👍🏼

I must admit it’s nice to be writing on this thread again (how long will it last I hear you all cry 🤔) timbers arrived the other day along with lenghths of BH rail and Exactoscale chairs, great service once again from the EM gauge society.  So today I’ve been painting timbers ready to glue down onto the Templot which I’m hoping to carry on with tonight, I’ve also marked out where the point rodding, signal pulley wire etc will go to.  I also bought some ply today which I will cut down to size for the track bed, this will make it easier to work on around the house as it will only be around 10-15” wide and once done I will add the boards.

Tonight’s progress, the missing timbers are where copper clad sleepers will go, in the past I’ve not used them but during construction of the last couple of turn outs I’ve built I have added them and it does make a things a bit more solid especially around the vee’s

I just hate it when people can use Templot!

Mike.

Currently chuffing about with bits of EMGS templates, bits of paper, pieces of wood, perspiration and exasperation to try and achieve a similar outcome with 2 interlaced diamond crossings!

Hi Mike it took me years to get to grips with it but once you do it all clicks and it’s pretty easy to use although I’m no expert and I only know the basics but keep trying and you will get it, there’s a few tutorials on YouTube now to.

Thanks Keith I’m determined to finish it this time!  I’ve also learnt a lot since my first efforts so hopefully I can give it a bit if wow factor.   Well that’s the plan anyway 😉

Thanks again

Another hour modelling time this afternoon, I managed to saw the ply board I got yesterday down the middle so that should cover the track bed for the up and down mains, the first board will be 6’ long by around 18” I’m thinking but the width might be a little more or less.  For the rest of the junction I’m thinking of maybe two 3’ long boards as this will make them easier to handle as they will be a lot wider.  Some photos below of what to expect in the form of track on the first board although I need to add another 60’ track section at the toe of the point, sorry Mike more Templot 😉

Sat here on the train heading to work reading through this thread from 2015, why did I ever give up on this project!  Although having said that I’ve learnt a lot since starting it and I’ve discovered a few minor details I’d left out originally so I suppose all good things happen for a reason.  After today I’ve five days off so once all the timbers and sleepers are down I can hopefully make a start on the track construction although I want the first chair to be stuck down by my daughter who is now 6 going on 16, as she loves playing with the trains and loves seeing each days progress.  I also need to get the board stained as I’m not taking any chances when it’s out in the garage once boarded out.

A good couple of hours work today, first metre of rail has had the chairs threaded ready to be secured into position, but first I need to get the board stained then I can fix the track plan down onto cork underlay.

Good couple of hours work tonight and got one of my not so favourite jobs out of the way, I’ve got the first six vee’s made, hopefully I’ll get these cut to size and fitted in the next day or two.

More progress today, first four vee’s have been fixed into position (made far easier by the use of the odd copper clad sleeper) and progress has been made with the diamond, I’ve even done a short video to, once again apologies for the voice over, I really should get someone else to to the talking 😂

Thanks Phil, think this is the most progress I’ve ever made in such a short period of time 😂
