brian daniels
Went to the Cold War Jets day at Bruntingthorpe yesterday for the first time and must say I was blown away with it all. Planes in action were 3 Buccaneers, Victor, VC 10, Nimrod, Canberra, three Provost, some small thing, and two Lightnings. I did not realize how load a VC 10 could be but when you are stood about 100ft from the engines I suppose it will be! I was surprised just how close you are to these high speed taxi runs. The Victor was a sight for sore eyes even though it was on two engines. And then those English Electric Lightnings were just something else. Loved it when they throttle up stood still and get a flame out the rear. There were a couple of very nice models flying as well, a VC 10, Vulcan and a Lightning. On the way out we had to give way for a couple of light aircraft taxiing through the cars to get to the runway.

brian daniels
You got to go Ian we had grins from ear to ear but take some ear plugs as I could not take pictures of them pulling away as you just had to put you fingers in your ears, especially the VC 10 and Lightnings. pete_mcfarlane
I've always got a soft spot for the Victor - it still looks futuristic today even though it's over 60 years old.

Londontram
Lovely set of photo's makes me recall days spent at RAF Marham watching the Victors take off and landing and you would often see them go over Yarmouth still climbing with a full load of fuel with long trails of exhast smoke. Living near RAF Coltishall I would often spend an afternoon seeing what was coming and going and on two occasions saw Canberras there one doing touch and gos and the other landing and stopping for a few hours. I was lucky enough to be there the day the Jaguars came back from the gulf and there was a VC10 that brought the ground crew back and any one who know Coltishall you could get within about 100 yards of the end of the runway if you walk down one of the emergency access roads
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted August 26, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2014 Yep I double took on the lightning and Vulcan flying then realised they were models! I watched classic jets about the Buccaneer the other day and the had shots of them and the Victor at Bruntigthorpe which were superb. Super shots Brian.
