New Steam locomotive kit being announced very soon.

A totally new style of kit following on from the very popular diesel range employing the same construction methods.

That's very interesting news. If the chassis was resin like their 08 it would make getting a rolling chassis much easier.

For those who may not have seen it. This week Pete announced on Farcebook that the first JLTRT steam loco 'easy built' kit will be a GWR Dukedog. Two tender versions will be available.

JLTRT are expanding the LMS Van range with more variations soon and should be adding some Great Western designs as well.

They also intend on doing the Sea Cow and Mermaid ballast wagons.

As for the Duke Dog I don't think any one else does do a kit.

The main point being this kit should be able to be built by most moderately skilled modellers not just by those with some degree of soldering experience.

It will be the same with the 94 pannier, yes there is an old mainly white metal kit on the market but that shouldn't stop them from making a new state of the art kit using the full technology Range now available to produce an easy to build kit suitable for most modellers.

It's still listed by DA.

And surely, common sense says that if a kit exists, do a different one?

Probably a good job Pete didn't look at the collection of 7mm scale diesel kits about at the time and think.."Naaah, someone else already does them!......"

There's plenty of kits out there that would benefit from someone else producing a better and/or easier to build version..... :mosking:

I just found this thread - thank you it is most useful.

I thought it worth posting that yesterday I bought what may be the last of the run of Mark 1 coaches - Laurie put together a BTK for my 1950s Midlander rake.  However, there will be a new run with different, more stable, castings in about a year's time.  As I currently have one Sidelines kit to complete, two JLTRT kits in their boxes and another Sidelines on my wish list, I think I may be able to wait a year.

The Dukedog is an interesting looking project, coming just when I really feel I have mastered soldering Gauge O locos.  David Andrews does have one on his current "order now, collect in October" list.  I have to admit I really like David's construction style but the new technology from JLTRT looks very compelling.

I should add that I switched from 4mm gauge just over a year ago and as someone who likes to make things but has reduced flexibility in finger joints, etc. this is the scale for me.  The range of Gauge O kits is quite amazing and looks to grow rather than shrink in the years ahead.

I Keep asking Pete about the BR standard Cattle wagon too!

Hi Steve,

Not sure if you'll know or not, but any progress on the JLTRT CovHop? I've not seen anything about it recently?

Spoke with Pete today, the Derby Lightweight is well on should only be a few months away. Definitely out this year. His words were ... it's there, it's great to go, now the 47 is done, it's full steam ahead on the Derby unit.
