sir douglas
hi, just come across this website http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/ and did a search for railway, here is a small selection of the results. I know that most of what is documented on this site is illegal trespassing but they do have good intentions and they dont vandalize. synthnut
Yes, I'm a bit addicted to trawling though the 28DL site. It's full of fascinating and often very high quality pictures. It's a sad reflection as to how we as a society in general respect our history when we criminalise those who try to record such fleeting moments. Someone was charged with criminal damage recently for "removing a wingnut" There's a bit difference between urbexers and the metal fairies.... Trespass is trespass, sure, but the definition of criminal damage is being stretched a bit for the sake of being seen to be tough. I think in years to come, archeologists will appreciate the wealth of information captured by these urbexers. Their moto is "take noting but photographs, leave nothing but footprints" which is very commendable! Why do we seem so ashamed of our industrial buildings, blink and they've been erased, just look for the remains of our coal industry for example. Down south, people don't seem to like to have any hints that there might have been anything resembling industry too close by, in case it knocks of some of the value of our over priced houses! RMweb Premium Welly Posted September 10, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 10, 2014 28 Days Later is so addictive! There are some fascinating places overseas including a disused crematorium in Germany! A memorable site is the Gas Turbine Testing Station at Pyestock - massive chambers for simulating various climatic conditions but that is next door to a police training school... Classsix T
I'm no legal expert (as my income will testify) but did I once hear trespass isn't recognised as such unless the alleged perp refuses to leave the property when requested? Probably cobblers, a sign should be notification enough I'd have thought, but it's there in my mind somehow. Back on topic, the Tyne Yard one sounds familiar. Try these also. http://www.subbrit.org.uk http://www.messynessychic.com/2012/11/09/londons-subterranean-secret-the-forgotten-mail-train/ The silentuk links aren't working for me btw, just ads. C6T. What you're probably thinking of is, I think trespass is normally a civil law issue. In the case of the railway though, I believe it's criminal law, under the Railway By-laws
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted September 12, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2014 Fylde water board stocks reservoir Regards, Sam. The Stocks Res quarry is on land that is managed by a friend of mine - her sheep are the only residents! I rode my mountain bike up there last year but didn't have a camera with me. As the link says, most of the stuff was sold to a scrap metal merchant and very little - if any - remains Cheers, Mick
'CHARD
Been a 28DL addict for several years. The Ship Canal viaduct at Warrington is on there, and a number of railway tunnels. Power to these guys elbow IMHO - they generally do a pretty good job of recording neglect and decay that seldom if ever gets any insight. stadman
Have seen pictures of the Post Office Railway there as well. Great fascinating site. These people are archeologists in a way, recording what's left and probably before it's gone. Bet Time Team wishes the Roman's had urbexer's recording what was there . Talltim
The 142 front under Manchester Victoria is one image that has stayed in my mind from reading a load of 28DL posts a while ago http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/47303-Victoria-Under-Ground-Walkers-Croft-Manchester-Feb-2010?highlight=manchester+victoria However, I'm a bit confused, this pic shows it as crashing at Liverpool Lime street. How/why did the front get transported to the the Victoria undercroft?
