Lettering the OCO tank. Some areas of the red look different after going over some mistakes with the white but will be fine after varnishing

20230802_133321.jpg.c7110c52f86112454913ef4bba12fe8f.jpg

The stencils

20230802_133409.jpg.e37e05117b1d0c6d387210bf50008551.jpg

The problem now is the writing that needs to go under the left hand O,

"Olympia Cake & Oil Co Ltd

Selby"

It needs to start from about the left hand side of the O and end before the plate join but even when i write it out to 1mm high its not going to fit but theres no way i'm able paint smaller than that.

20230802_133448.jpg.30aee9d78385d9d736bb0498ec5a420e.jpg

So, do i ignore the positioning and go with this size over the strap and join as above or leave it and come to one day in the future with a transfer?

Years ago I had quite a degree of success doing small lettering with Tipp Ex typewriter correction strips. I used, from memory, I sharp 2H pencil and drew the lettering by hand  on a correction strip taped to the model- they are still available second hand on Ebay but quite expensive. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175452508962?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338749386&toolid=20006&customid=GB_12576_175452508962.145629586729~1871176556365-g_Cj0KCQjwoK2mBhDzARIsADGbjeq8mfzipaYXzW9HozqiTKZncCBErkX8yiECPWmKpMU77vnYbwB-ajUaAtUHEALw_wcB

You can get some pretty fine white gel pens that work quite well too. Best to experiment with the paint finish underneath- I think they work best, like transfers, on a gloss finish.

That sound like a product (over here, anyway) called "White-Out" (other brands are available); still available in office supply stores. A sample of what I am referring to:

BTW, that large gear on the right side of the dispenser has some modeling uses, too.

Felt like like starting the next 2 since they will be quite quick and easy. Both are from Airnimal's stash of rejected bodies

Firstly a private owner, it had slopes inside to make a hopper which i removed and added in scribed 0.25mm sheet for the planking to make it a general PO wagon. Ignore the brown inside that was just some where to use up left over paint instead of wasting it.

20230810_115042.jpg.19caebe30552b79adfd06abe8bcc3220.jpg

I added some tube as packing collars to the axles as the distance between the bushes were too wide. I could have packed between the axleboxes and chassis but it wouldnt have looked right

The other is an LNWR 2 plank, a diagram 6 i believe looking at the wagon book, all ive done to this so far is add axleboxes and wheels.

20230810_145444.jpg.421b8d59c3658a3b3f0c3e06a8451ed7.jpg

This time it was the bush holes that were too big at 3mm while the bushes are 2.5mm, i just so happen to have some styrene tube which is 4mm dia with 2.5mm inner which made perfect bushing After drilling out for them

20230810_115014.jpg.5da8e7c67758374d3e5923b34c521419.jpg

I have no idea on the accuracy or the prototype of the PO to finish as it should have been so i changed to a general wagon, the LNWR matches the book drawing close enough that i cant see why it was rejected but doesnt matter, i might even also do a furniture container, ive already been thinking about one for a while but would first need to find any examples that were at least vaguely in my area

Ive had this mat for at least about 15 years and its quite rough now, so upon seeing some in Lidl i thought it was about time for a new one

Good information about Lidl but crikey all those lines are doing my head in, especially those arcs near the top!

I hope it is a bit more toned down in real life! Maybe they're just being highlighted by the flash.

Is the other side any calmer or just the same?

After exhausting the google images a few days ago, i finally came across a local container but since its Hornby the accuracy is doubtful. I would have to find out if the livery existed (yes i did find that the company still exists) and secondly what was thr container itself, this looks Honby's usual job of slapping on any livery they can find onto a wagon moulding they already have which this one looks like a post grouping or BR example

Other than that, putting together the LNWR brakegear

On the other wagon, its painted into the base colour and its going to be finished as Charlesworth, based on this photo of Newmarket Silkstone, the back left one fits what ive got. I do also have 2 other photos of Charlesworth wagons for doing the lettering.

The buffers have been filed back to add on a wooden face, and ive not yet decided whether to do 1 or 2 shoe brake

A bit on the Grimsby, there is something on top of lids that might either be vents or structural ribs but its unclear so i will leave that off. What i cant leave off though are the side door fastenings which look like hinged clamps but the photos are clear enough to tell me exactly what they look like

For these latest wagons ive started using Airnimal's wheelbase alignment jig idea, this one with 8' and 9'20230828_215518.jpg.666460e669658a256957c06fc4e046c3.jpg

Back, good show as well. Something i wanted to see while i was there was the plinthed wagon in the museum next door to the venue. There was several other interesting things too

20230910_130242.jpg.b73efe18d31d9abef03ddf210fe82b10.jpg

At the show, one of the guys on a 4mm stand behind us got out an O gauge LMS Garratt for us to gawk at

20230910_141221.jpg.e2056c03ff9528af64e6e20c03126e18.jpg

So we went 250 miles from Wakefield to this show and in a food festival in the park outside was a burger van from Otley, so theyve come a few miles more than us
