merf the transit is excellent, reminds me of the old oak common staff buses, but in my dat they were freight rover 400s mostly.

I found this pic on the superb traveller homes website, it was on the news about the underground response teams having blue lights to get to incidents, look at the link, someone has already though of this!

Love the fire engine conversion,, even if they did put the gang bus body on back to front, why ?

The London Underground response unit is pictured in last weeks Rail mag. A Mercedes that looks like built by a fire engine builder, but in police livery. Looks odd, but not as odd as this.

saw that, all very modern, the police dodge however, nice big a/c unit, britax lightbar, not exactley rapid response lol, but a presence nevertheless. as for the fiore engine conversion, back to front body, too much weed probably, make a curious model though!

Thanks for that link Jim, O/T link below, but that collection is full of gems, ideal subjects for late sixties use - this scene could be from a Horgi catalogue!

And whilst on flickr, I found these. Not dated but my guess is about 1980ish. Lots of variety, but what is the white van with what looks like a personnel bus body ?

Thats an odd one, it has flomatic roof vents, and extractor fan and the chimney for the hot water, looks like a window in the front, and the british rail legend on the end, the low cab may mean a bedford tk, but no side windows that can be seen, unless its rerailing vehicle? but why white? but then again it looks lower than the TK at the other end ....hhmmmmmm

Merf,

I remember seeing those 2 vans in post #981 at Brighton about 20 years ago and thinking they'd make good models but no-one made the vans. Don't suppose anyone does now. Not much has changed apart from the ads but I sometimes see BTPs 'RV' parked there.

Just being catching up on the Willesden depot flickr photos , what a great selection, 12 BR vehicles and none the same , could the white escort van be BR?

Agree about the Bedford CFs Merf 2nd best seller after the Transit and a common sight from1969 to now , amazing no decent models of it .Notice they are just creeping onto the rally fields.

Spotted a Leyland Daf 4X4 fitted with ex BR crewbus body yesterday .

A flickr find, Fordson Tipper at Inverness;-

Superb find there, I don't have this one in my lists, so cannot give a registration. Not sure if it's a tipper or not, maybe just the factory built dropside. If so they would then have the job of unloading it as well, or leave it parked till the summer !

Did you get a picture? It may appear on traveller homes .com.

I passed a ruined leyeland roadrunner on the M40 weekend before last, in a right state, an ex br crewbus.

I was on my way to carlisle to get some bits off the one in the picture, pic taken weekend before last - having failed to find a buyer, its being broken for spares. Shame as its low miles and in good nick, but a ten tonner so no good for a car license. I think this wil be its final resting place. According to the dealer, it attended the grayrigg derailment.

Shame the photographer didn't get the cab, obviously wrong priorities ! :) Fairly sure its a tipper , the high set of the body well above the mudguards , high rear corner posts to give clearance to tailboard when tipping and the headache rack.

Yes it was a very neat and very tidy conversion and very clean , not like a travellers home .In the Higlands at mo so can't post pics. Coincidentally it was parked almost on the old Fort Augustus rail line.

Funny how the Leyland Daf 4x4s seem to get surplussed before the Bedford MK/MJ they were supposed to replace ! Another great government decision that killed Bedford.-- rant over :)
