Photos are here : http://s1151.photobu...ff Road Railer/ - I haven't been to the Plym valley for a few years so I have no idea if the restoration has continued or not. Vehicle registration B445 WPO, livery is yellow with Intercity brandings. Hopefully this will have some useful details for modelling. ringo Posted May 15, 2012 Share Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) I dont know if still exists, but there used to be a broad gauge BRUFF, not a 7'1/4" but a 5'3" one which was based in Belfast, at York Road depot, it wasnt used much, or it certinally wasnt whilst I was ther in 1998. andye Posted May 20, 2012 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Whilst we are talking of BRUFFS, here is the bruffs partner. Ringo you will remember this - I am amazed its still there. The Reading Depot commando has been mentioned before, so here are a couple of pictures taken last week - I am impressed by its unvandalised confition, it was last taxed in 2001, so can assume it has not moved since. It looks original, and I want to add it to my fleet!! It cannot have long now though, as with the redevelopement of the depot I guess it will get swept away and scrapped, which is a shame as its survived this long. Hi Phil, At the end of the day it can be scrapped same as any other vehicle, and the correct paperwork should be filled in. This one has been there that long, who knows if it has a V5, and who knows who actually owns it, which may well be why its still there! It would be great to see it saved though. Built at Wolverton works and to my knowledge used by the Southern Region, and anybody else ? These seem to be what the BRUFFs of 1984 probably replaced. Not a bad model but as always using a chassis with too long a wheelbase, it has had the chassis and body shortened, larger wheels (20") from BT. The reduction to the body was done at the crew area as the door and window arrangment needed re working. Mirrors and indicators added to the cab. The ladder had to lead somwhere, and a close look at the photos show what appears to be a platform at the rear of the body, for what I'm not sure but maybe for setting up floodlighting on sites. The BRUFFS had those telescoping floodlight towers. I found this in a list of buses owned by BR. A Renault S56 with Reeve Burgess body. I knew nothing of it and no picture had been seen. But in the collection was an EFE model of one of these just waiting for a repaint. So here it is, wrong or right ! I am pleased with the look of it and would love to find one day a picture to prove that it is totally rubbish ! 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ref the TK, love the model but to me the cab on that model always looks too small, is it, or is it just the TK had a small cab? The Oxford, EFE and the old Matchbox ones are all the same size, but the TK does look a lot more "right" when used with a smaller body. Will have a measure ! Nice picture that, I like the Amec blue colour, maybe a model one day ? Not too many Cargos were bought as personnel carriers, although dropsides were common, and mainly in the last couple of years of BR. Leyland DAF probably cheaper for the 7.5t model ? Had a rough measure and found the Matchbox, Oxford and Canterbury cabs are all aprox. 26mm wide over panels. The EFE does look biger and is 28mm. Comparison shows it clearly, L to R are the Canterbury, Oxford, EFE and Matchbox. Does anybody know what width they are ? Merf. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

ringo Posted May 31, 2012 Share Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) Andy Sorry took a while to respond, The NIR BRUFF was built purposely for Ireland, and wasnt one of the ex BR ones. Yep I remember the Old Dodge Commando at Reading, they also at one time had two BRUFFS, a standard rerailing one, and also a flat bed one, I think the flat bed one went to Amey at Appleford, I think it may stil exist but not sure. Interesting though, as it didnt have a tail lift, which was realy needed as the MFD equipment wasnt exactly lightweight! It would a dreadfull if the Reading comando got scrapped, I know that the BRUFF got given away, elledged to a preservation society, but I dont know which one.....so where is it hiding? Its a shame, as I litterally bought a new car today, or I would be down at Reading with some beer vouchers in my hand, perhaps if you ask them nicely, they may gve it away, especially if its going to a good home.
