Yes and no !

One of my collegues told me they had one on hire many years ago at Holyhead for the S&T, grey it was. But to my knowledge BR never owned any.

M.

Plenty of Mini saloons of course (on the Western if not elsewhere) but the contemporary(ish) vans in the WR fleet were Viva HAs as far as I came across at the time. When the Mini saloons went they were mostly replaced by Escorts and in some cases, I think, by Vivas.

The Midland had mini saloons as well AAR-B registered in 1964, used by goods sales staff according to Railnews.

So the diecast yellow model ones are fiction, thought i'd seen no photos .

However Think I've seen a green BR engineering one in a btf film . Will post a still pic later.

Yes please, would love to be proved wrong. However the yellow one with parcels lettering is a bit small when the usual parcel van in those days was BMC FG or Commer Walk-thru.

Aye up Doris have you seen that British Rail Mini Van outside ?

Well done mate.

Coments - Fleet number visible, I can see it's Scotish, but cant make out the rest.

Fleet name smaller than the standard, to fit the tiny size.

Very good colour rendition for anybody not convinced of the shade of green.

Go to the top of the class that man.

Just one question, the name of the film please ?

Sorry I should have said, its BTF Vol. 9 'Give Your Car a Holiday' . Strange thing is I think its Dover ( but only seen a set of stills )

Filmed in 1967 to advertise Motorail and car ferry services. Dover had no Motorail services but I guess it would be Stranraer which did, fits with the Scotish fleet number. So the van would be no later than 'F' registration.

Yes your right , with the wonders of Google street view recognise the still extant Stanraer terminal at the the entrance to port and the view of hills behind the van . They've panelled in the bottom of the windows sometime in the last 45 years !

.

Yes it was a very neat and very tidy conversion and very clean , not like a travellers home .In the Higlands at mo so can't post pics. Coincidentally it was parked almost on the old Fort Augustus rail line.

Funny how the Leyland Daf 4x4s seem to get surplussed before the Bedford MK/MJ they were supposed to replace ! Another great government decision that killed Bedford.-- rant over :)

A bit modern for my tastes, but interesting none the less is this lorry - with Coal Sector sticker - at Knottingley in 1996.

As you say a bit modern, but the end of BR is not too well known about. After the yellow period, a lot of white vehicles were aquired and not too many appear in photos. The sectorisation was not universally applied to road vehicles, we had a few carrying Regional Railways and I have a few pictures of Railfreight Distribution stickers of Freightliner lorries.

So any more from this period I would love to see, please. And by the way, what is it ? Possibly a Seddon-Atkinson.

Definitely Seddon Atkinson, think its a 211

Thanks for the confirmation, I have a couple of pics of K920JYG which appears to be a similar lorry, in white and maroon with Jarvis branding, although that has a later style cab badged 'Strato 210'

And here is a picture of a leyland roadrunner / daf 45 re railing vehicle, on my freind garys layout, I think based on the base toys freighter - still needs a little finishing but captures the feel really well!

Looks good to me, must look into using the BT cab. Can you help, I want to know the body length and wheelbase of those recovery buses. Them and the 22 seater PWay buses were quite a bit longer than the normal 8/14 seaters. But how much ?

While the door is the same, the cab is quite a lot narrower on the Roadrunner/45. Being plastic it shouldn't be too hard to narrow it, very much like Jim did for the Cruiser. Incidentally, the headlights on the real ones are off the Maestro!

I had a look at the work involved and decided to go for the RTI Freighter/Cruiser cab as it appears to just need reducing in height, the bumper cutting off and repositioning.

Couple of flicr finds, can't remember did I put this one on of the Commer PB van, but the cleareast shot of one that I have ever come across. The Scarab at Bermondsey is unusual, as Scarabs with double arrows are rare and the trailer still carries red/cream 6 years after the yellow was introduced.

That they are, the indicators are rubbolite items, as are the rest of the lights. Some of the switches inside are also maestro early ones, typical built out of the leyland parts bin!

Andye,

classic truck, I used to drive Tyseleys old rerailing truck, although ours was a Dodge unit, which originally came from Saltley when they disbanded the rerailing from there and it was transferred to us, LRC727W, odd how i can remember that reg number but cant on my current car!

One question though, did you repaint and do the re lettering on the sides, its seems odd, as the arrows and by J reg would have "Recovery Equipment" on the upper panel toward the rear, also it needs the chevrons down the sides.

I found this pick of the old Holyhead van, same as the Tyseley one, I belive that the pic was taken by Victor Smith, so remains his copy right.

Cheers

Ringo
