RMweb Gold Tony Teague Posted July 9, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 9, 2022 I finally got to see one of Balfour Beatty's two New Track Construction machines (NTC2) in action at Swanbourne on the Bletchley - Bicester section of the East West Railway. It is incredible to watch! Tony

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted September 21, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 21, 2022 A friendly wave and toot from the driver of SB Rail's tamper 928001, passing through Deighton on 21st September 2022. The tamper, which curiously doesn't bear the usual 'DR' prefix and number range for an item of on-track plant, was working under its vehicle allocated reporting code of 6J76 from Guide Bridge Brookside Sidings to Guide Bridge Brookside Sidings, via a reversal in West Yorkshire at Wakefield Kirkgate.

RMweb Premium njee20 Posted October 19, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 19, 2022 Is it not because it constructs new track, rather than because it constructs track and it’s new…? Mind you the “New Measurement Train” falls foul of that! Somehow calling it the “Old Measurement Train” doesn’t evoke the same image of bleeding edge technology. Really like the SF06 milling machine. Off to see if I can find decent drawings for one, I sense a 3D print coming… 1

Probably not too big a problem as the lines between Hanslope and Rugby via Kilsby and Np'ton are still known as the Old and New Lines, despite the New Line being built during the reign of Queen Victoria. For the 10years I was at Rugby, we simply called them the HNRs or N’hampton loop. I think I only ever heard the called ‘new’ twice, generally by the OLE guys. I’ll check tomorrow. Nice looking machines, but reality, this pair is not as good as the Schweerbau HSM which is due to leave the UK soon.

Busmansholiday
Fortunately last night's final Huddersfield to Sheffield train was an hour and twenty late which resulted in Barnsley Station having to remain open beyond it's normal bed time. This was fortunate for me as it allowed me to photo yesterday's 3Z12, Knottingley TMD to Knottingley TMD weed killer run which reversed there before heading to Huddersfield.
