RMweb Gold 96701 Posted February 9, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 9, 2015 The mast in the class 15 pic reads CM47. CM is Cheadle-Hulme to Macclesfield according to Dave's post. That would make the location between Cheadle-Hulme Junction and Macclesfield. As the distance between those two points is about 7 to 8 miles I assume that the 47 applies to something other than distance. I read that structure number as C 16/42. That structure is at 16m 1669y on the BETHNAL GREEN - KINGS LYNN line. Other assets around that mileage is referred to as either Broxbourne or Wharf Road. RMweb Gold Downendian Posted February 10, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 10, 2015 Another triplet this evening. I always try and buy a photo (preferably copyright, these all are) of a loco that I'm modelling to get it looking as real to life as possible. But in order to do this ebay scanning must be routine and careful in order to avoid a bidding war- I was engaged this morning trying (and failing) to obtain a beautiful slide of D1071 at Swindon, which looks like it had just emerged after being painted blue. If someone on here won it - welldone, I'm really envious! First for fans of the forthcoming Heljan model is 05 001 at Sandown in 1979. The bucket list for spotters in the 1970s was to go over to the IoW to track down this one, and also out to Holyhead breakwater to get the two 01s- trips I never did. Next is 50 009 at Stoke Gifford on Sunday 16th July 1978 - I'm always interested in photos from this position- we used to encamp on the embankments above the line at this spot. I've just checked my notebooks and I was there that day -lots of class 50s seen also but 50s on a PW train of Grampus wagons was rare. The spoil tip further up the line in the "triangle" is its likely origin. Finally another scarce slide- I somehow managed to pick this one up quite cheaply, DP1 on the Merseyside express, but where is it? Neil

jonny777
Sorry to turn this into a continual whinge about prices of slides on Ebay, but what makes this worth over £28? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORIGINAL-35mm-BRITISH-RAILWAY-SLIDE-OF-47533-BIRMINGHAM-1985-COPYRIGHT-/381172915273?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item58bfad1c49 And if this sells, at that starting price, then words will fail me - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAILWAY-SLIDE-Please-See-Decription-For-Details-/301551146939?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4635d957bb

jonny777
Hi Peter Wasn't 47 170 County of Northfolk the first large logo locomotive? I don't think so. 47170 seems to have gained its large logo livery in 1980. I remember seeing 56036 on Cardiff Canton depot during the summer of 1979, but I don't know how long it had been in that livery.
RMweb Gold Downendian Posted March 7, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2015 1978 - 56036 this was the first large logo - Peter won the prize earlier in this thread in fact this very page Neil.
Peter Kazmierczak
Hi Peter Wasn't 47 170 County of Northfolk the first large logo locomotive? Ah, the County of North Folk. Depends how you look at it I suppose Clive. One of Stratford's well known specials (like those Union Jacks and silver roofs). But the first official one would've been on 56036. Edit - I believe you might be thinking of a different Cl.47 Clive, as I think 47170 post-dated 56036. Might need to do a little delving myself.....It wasn't a true "Large Logo" livery, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Another edit - 47170 appeared in May 1980 in "Large Logo", though cabsides were still blue rather than the official yellow style as on 56036 - Stratford up to its tricks again. jonny777
Although 47163 and 47164 appeared with union jacks in 1977 for the Silver Jubilee, I don't think they can be considered as large logo livery locos (ooh... alliteration) simply because they had no large BR logos. The union jacks were just added to a normally painted BR blue loco with silver roofs.
