"DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND" of cardboard

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Brian, Jonathan, thanks!

Tim, the building of this Mountain loco is educationally especially for me. When I try to recognize shapes, mechanisms, I learn this engine, how was designed. It was very interesting when I touched frame, elements of bogie, I had imagination how stiff are the elements despite they are only of 2, 3 layers of cardboard. It is really very interesting trip.

cheers

Mirek, I have watched this build with fascination from the start and even though have watched pieces of paper and card coming together to form these intricate parts, I still cannot believe that I wouldn't need a block & tackle to lift that compressor into place!

Stunningly beautiful!

Cheers

Phil

Hi rockershovel,

The rivets are made of cardboard with thickness around 0.3 mm. They are cut by punch of injection needle like on attached pics.

The most important is to have good quality cardboard, resist against stratifying. I use Canson product.

Later they are sticked by BCG transparent glue.

Hope it is enought clearly explained by me.

Cheers

Have you thought of putting this in the model engineering forums? http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/threads.asp?t=145 as this workmanship is "engineering at its best" and well deserved of recognition in the UK press, both railway and model engineering. You really should look at marketing the kits (with detailed instructions) as well. I am sure there are modellers out there who would love to tackle something like this but couldn't from scratch. Shame you haven't been invited to an exhibition in the UK yet - flights from Poland couldn't be that expensive!! And one other thing - how come your loco's did not get into the "build a loco" challenge final round? was there a restriction on metal/plastic only, or that they had to run?

I'd have put money on him being in the top three.

I clicked on "agree", but that would only be metaphorical money because I don't do the gamble thing. However, I do think Mirek's work deserves a wider audience. Would it be possible to put some photo's in the display at the top of the page perhaps Andy or Mods?

Hello,

Hm, what a discussion!

trainmaster 247, to tell the truth, I built models for my own pleasure. Many colleagues in Poland push me to publish this loco in paper form. Now I don't exclude it.

I'm working over boiler and its equipment, how is progress you can see below.

Boiler:
