And i will leave you with this absolute peach of a paint naff up. This is 5047 which is listed in the offical scotrail livery guidelines for rollign stock. Safe to say this will not be staying!

Is that grey just for the doors? Doesn't look too bad?

380 driving car progressing through the paint stages. Light grey on the roofs being replaced by roof grime. Looks close enough to my eye. In the mean time the scotrail blue has been painted on. I have misplaced or not bought a jar of gloss varnish so thats put the 153 back a week or two until i can get to a shop for more. Its a little rough in some areas where its been masked but these will be touched up later

New gloss varnish arrived. As much as i love the VMS varnish its no good for stock thats in and out of boxes unfortunatly.

So 153376 is ready for decals once its had a chance to cure.

The class 380 just needs its doors painting

Really need to get a push on and get a chassis designed for this, stuff to give a test run before selling, few locos for renumbering and another 153 to repaint on commission.  Busy few weeks before glasgow!

Long term workbench project the 380. Paint on the DTSO is 90% finished. Recently notice the grey runs along the bottom under the door steps so need to add that

The chassis design on the other has taken some good steps forward. Its a push fit just now but looking to add a screw either end to secure it better althow it holds rather well. One bit i cant find any where is the screws for the Hornby 395 bogies. No refrence to them in any of the service documents

Glasgow this weekend and got a few ideas for some projects i would like to do. Having a bit of an aircraft binge at the moment and the flavour of the month seems to be RAF display aircraft.... mainly battle of britain memorial flight aircraft and tucanos. hopefully the mojo for the railway projects will come back after seeing whats on offer at Glasgow

That's smashing! Really looking good.

Regarding the bogies, contact Hornby Spares direct. I've had parts that've not been listed anywhere before off them and they've been pretty good about it in fairness.

Recovered from Glasgow. Managed to get all the donor models for the future projects and finally managed to hunt down a Bachmann 66 in colas livery.

153 round two in currently underway

Looking good, nice to meet you too.  I also picked up a few coaches for scratch builds and for 43277 and 43274.

I’m just recovering from Glasgow, Monday was mostly delivering Clucas Bay, then truck and trailer to friend, then helping KMS unload, me and my pal were back in Aberdeen for 1am.

Can’t wait to go back to work for a rest!

Great to finally put a face to the name. If your needing anything for 277 just fire me a message and will see what i can do

Workbench wise nice easy one tonight. 66731 in for a renumber to 773

Managed to get the old numbers off with some tamiya lacquer thinner which was a result. On the topic of decals royal mail fired a railtec letter through the door...

I also have 57601 model rails one with the aim of repainting. So if someone has a /6 they want to swap for a limited edition 601 nows your chance! Just drop me a message.

The dreaded silvering.... this was number one on what i did not want to happen. 20240310_144426.jpg.cc1095115ed3ade11e42b969ed7c2028.jpg

So its looking likely it will need to be very carefully sanded back and re glossed. Took a chance where the varnish had lifted and paid the price. Sometimes you get away with it but this time i did not.

On another note is there any reviews of the Heljan 57s out there. Seen they have done 601 in NB and would be a shame to send a limited edition wcrc maroon one to the iso jar for paint stripping

Making the most of being stuck in the house while the car gets fixed.

VIU2 has progressed through the final paint stages rather quickly and is now ready for gloss coat and decals. Hopefully have it done and sent home by the end of next week

20240316_174235.jpg.a2c91c0de03d88de521893cf75fa907e.jpg

Heljans 57601 is currently making its way to me and its partner in crime is ready for NB brown paint. Although im sure i see somewhere that they actually carry WCRC maroon and they basicly just slapped the cream band onto them. Either way its coming along nicely. Also got some LEDs sat for adding the marker lights Heljan seem to have not bothered fitting for what ever reason

20240316_174322.jpg.ccc5b0d9d3e061085fd7a23136a48113.jpg

And of course theres 380114. Have patched up where the decals at silvered then the varnish lifted so slightly larger patch than originally planned. 20240316_174304.jpg.6737b6dffddc1cf422302d8972c259ad.jpg

Still along way off getting it done by slowly getting there!

57s have doubled.... first Heljan offering in the fleet and its a not bad model. Lighting options seem a bit odd, no top marker but have the light pipe fitted, no option of white markers but two red LEDs on a single light pipe for tail lights.

Anyway hope to sort that out later this week. The Bachmann /3 is mostly done. Compairing to the Heljan offering and Bachmann drs ones the cream is a match for the DRS era ones but WCRC seem to have opted for a lighter option. Im not going to repaint it as its a good match for the coaches and im happy with it

Been having a rake through the boxes of donor models and its amazing what you find that has been stashed aside for various projects.

The workbench is now starting to look like carnforth. Starting from the top Hornby MK2e swapped onto a Mk2F chassis for maroon paint. Hornby class 47 ex northern belle set was going to be a DRS blue one, now going to be 47804 unpowered tail gunner for charter sets. Last coach is the first of a full set of mk1s for repaint FO with center door plated over. Got six of them for the price of two of the latest releases so enough for a decent set once you add in the mk1 pullman

20240319_221723.jpg.68ec49460b0da23d3b409af0a1e8c30d.jpg

Got a load of MK2E coaches collected over the years for various test trains. Shame its mostly mk2F needed for them but thats for another day. That or paint a few of them into statesman rail

The persuit of the perfect paint shade...

Mk2 FO has been given the WCRC treatment. Crimson lake over red brown primer. The Ex FK which was converted to a FO at somepoint in its life has had the same treatment.

received_427106653332623.jpeg.2d63da40fcad75099692e740760f4e6e.jpeg

Perhaps needs a bit more red in it but will see how it looks with some gloss on it. Stick some ews decalson it and would look right at home kn the fife circle loco hauls... thoses where the days

57313 is done, coat of satin on it and radiator grills added.

Paint is railmatch 310 but will give a full run down of the paint process as it might be helpfull to others.

Primer wise i have used two vallejo primers. German red brown which is the base colour for WW2 tanks with a few drops of white to lighten it and try make it more pink/red than brown. It was the closest to red oxide i had to hand.

20240320_174003.jpg.9f0599f9134d774de6bba04c0ad3c412.jpg

Primed coach which looks almost standard maroon

20240320_175154.jpg.1bf4841d449daed6b6e809de62956b66.jpg

Once thats dried three or four passes of railmatch 310 LMS crimson lake to build up a full coverage.

20240323_115100.jpg.35f7c01ac52e4caa2749d754043086cc.jpg

The end result placed in the window for natural light looks rather close to prototype. Perhaps needs a hint more red which maybe achived with a base coat of red before the crimson. Still needs the gloss coat for decalling which again might slightly alter the hue.

The roof is exec dark grey again from railmatch. It might not be 100% on the money but its is a much closer match than some RTR options.

I cut lining transfers up into around 2" strips and apply that way.  Takes a good while longer but I found I have more chance of keeping them straight

that is a really good shout, the full length ones where a bit of a hand full to say the least. use a lot of long length lining with the aircraft modelling but that is much easier with various panel lines to follow compared to a smooth coach body.

have hit a bit of a modelers block just now, got the 57s lights to sort out on both of them and the 380 is still slowly getting worked on with various CAD bits but not too sure what to start working on next. could bite the bullet and do some of the weathering on the JPAs and IWAs I have been putting off for a while or maybe finally sort some yellow coaches out for the various locos. nothing really jumping out at me just now asi think i have over done it a bit with the weeks off I have just had

Progress has been a bit slow the last couple of weeks.

First up was a mates Hornby class 50 for service and some bodywork repairs. Front of the cab had a few cracks which have been glued and buffed back. Bodys on these seem really really thin. Resin grills are replacing the factory fitted ones which exploded into a thousand bits. Ready for primer and new warning panel

20240406_180853.jpg.f1e118f5f78a0fa8e559d207700b6734.jpg

My next project has been looking through the pile of various mk2s i have stashed away. First one being worked on required two windows to be blanked and a big hole cutting into the top

20240406_213102.jpg.fba56a5221730a63cf4bde3ed01ccb42.jpg

Typically i measured twice, measured again then cut... still too big! Thankfully nowt some milliput wont sort. Its a bit rough the now but trust the process, or atleasts thats what i keep telling myself! Been a bit lazy and used the glazing as a base for blanking off.

20240406_213137.jpg.814d3da44d72fcec1b627b12d9a42a9b.jpg

And last off a pair of NVAs. Bottom ones been given a top coat of satin and will be getting dropped off to a mate next week. Top one is mine which will be getting colas dimonds as per the recently overhauled one. I do have a picture of it from last year but never bothered to take one of just the coach. This will be getting added to the UTU set, next project will be the ex cally BUO. My first attempt at a cut and shut! Know there was a reason i never chucked the part converted DBSO coaches
