Before you paint the black areas, I've noticed a few people paint their models and miss a bit bit of detail. 43277 has matt black around the front cab window and lights, whereas the rest of it is more of a satin. Doing this to my own model as I'm going for accuracy where possible.

I had noticed this on the prototype. As you can probably tell I'm trying to get this as accurate as possible hence the mods to the exhaust ports. I'm un sure how I'm going to achieve this as the whole thing will be getting glass varnish prior to decals. Perhaps mask and satin varnish just the black around the front window satin after a gloss coat to seal everything in?

looking at pictures of it on shed I would say the light surrounds are also matt or satin in finish. Not too sure if spraying a matt and gloss black would be a wasted effort if its getting gloss coat for the decals.

More paint down tonight. As much as i like the 43s there a bloody nightmare to mask!

20230331_181038.jpg.8fa50858ad0bae6daf065b671e1fafef.jpg

Masked up and the usual brand of acrylic black i use sprayed on. Around 3 coats plus a few extras to get all the bits of the grills covered.

20230331_181801.jpg.f4b302bd240eedcd211268e12ed570dd.jpg

And mask off. Theres a couple areas that need touching up round the nose. The various curves of the HST cabs make this not the most fun job.

Roof panel is still off and currently in a blue ish colour for the panels which im told are to let light into the engine compartment and of course the sandy beige panels over the engine itself.

It is coming together rather nicey now

Apprently its easter bank holiday... dont know what a monday off is!

Letter through the door wednesday from railtec with the bits for 43277 which as usual are great.

20230409_194214.jpg.5a0d1aa02a07bd7d4721ad04628b7f65.jpg

Various bits fired onto the loco. Brush traction plates this side and SDR on the other.

20230409_231155.jpg.3644e98f331be2c70aaf0797004cc07d.jpg20230409_231202.jpg.a67c39936de134716c247804c541cdbe.jpg20230409_231216.jpg.385ccab099e15ff8b040d7e16efc7cc2.jpg

And some rushed late night pics once re assembled. Compressor is the final bit to get painted which is still off and the roof panels still need painting once some thin masking tape arrives. Got a spare set of door windows which i think i will try re doing for this as im not 100% happy with them. Other than that quite happy with it for my first loco repaint in however long its been.

Will get some better pics of it tuesday when it gets its shakedown run up the club

Was on one of the PLPR sets which was mk2s and a mk1 genny. This has probably changed by now

Well something very much diffrent from my usual modelling. First venture into 009 scale. Body is from thingyverse and has printed off rather nicely. Not sure what scheme im going to make for this yet but a few ideas floating around so far.

Also making a cameo appreance is a rather nice accurascale box. Going tk get that detailed up ready for Caroline later this weekend

Back to the slightly bigger trains.

The cameo box is the first of 6 (yes I know I have a problem but cant have too many) Accurascale class 37s.

Right out the box its a impressive bit of kit, livery application is great and no bits tumbling about the box. One buffer has lost its spring but that's going to be the end which always bolted to rolling stock so not an issue. One end was fully detailed and I must say who ever at Accurascale had the idea to make the buffer beams a detachable part for detailing is an absolute genius! Took the chance to have a look under the hood and the cabs are just something else. Not only is the sound proof wall which makes the cab feel tiny on the real thing but all the AWS isolation gear and fire bell are on the original bulkhead behind that! Also probably the best 3 piece snowplow I have seen on a model to date.

Any way that's enough of me buttering up the Accurascale team in the hope they will do the Vee barrel PCAs in oo gauge, the pictures of this model speak for themselves! Just need Caroline to arrive now

Not a massive amount to report on. 43277 is part way through having its final elements added, Fiberglass? roof panels and the new panels just behind the cab door have been started. just  a little bit of touching up to do that its done. Might benefit from a bit of exhaust soot and it looks really odd but they are there on the real one. 344300363_1160802044600557_8009551381114935407_n.jpg.dd4b926c8ad6dba6a8d76de024606f90.jpg

Nipped into rainbow railways last week who now produce the worlds hardest to find paint Northern Belle Maroon! Dug out the Bachmann RU I started work on possibly 5 years ago which never got past the Pullman cream stage. Hoping to get that turned round ready for decals tail end of this week as I have another Hornby class 43 coming for repaint which is my first bit of railway commission work so must be doing something right!

DRS coach ends have not been forgotten about either, these are now on version 7 which should (fingers crossed) be the final one. Got a set of those spoken for already and might do a batch of them pre painted ready to go

Finally dragging this one out the back burner box of projects. Mk1 1953 northern belle kitchen coach. Quick pass with rainbow railways newly released northen belle maroon. Hopefully progress this over the next few weeks.

The main work has been the second 43277. Stripped back and first coat of yellow on. Light sand back and a second coat next week and hopefully the orange as well.

Slowly pushing on with the 43 and MK1

Mk1 has had a couple touch ups and is ready for gloss coat

20230520_222941.jpg.c3e51a8ec0df5cf67d1684ffb5d101ef.jpg

43277 is also progressing well. Few touch ups on the black where the edges on the masking tape have lifted a bit of the paint or bits I have buffed back and a small bit of yellow needing a touch up but nothing major. Owners happy with the progress

Nice letter full of railtec goodies arrived to finish these off and for the next two locos.

Been a min,

Northern belle 1953 has progressed well the last few days and is not far from being complete. Everything losely dropped together for a pic

20230604_204801.jpg.5b7477ebc445013c3433aab4644ee860.jpg20230604_204811.jpg.ed1e6f5bf7a3e9ac6500b1512b5c6cf5.jpg

Recent videos of the northen belle show 1953 having gained the name Caerdydd so i have fired them on. Most of the remaining work is on the underframe adding air brake equipment and the diesel tank and exhaust for the onboard genny

Hopefully have it and 43277 totally finished off this time next week

Looking great mate! Very crisp lines on the paintwork - transfers look great too!

Thanks, unfortunately all the door gubbins made getting a dead straight line down the side near impossible. I am my own worst critic however. The second kitchen/dining car is in the panning stage and the WCRC 57s are just waiting there turn in the paint shop. Few aircraft kits in front of them but hopefully wont be too long before i get them turned out

managed a fair bit this weekend between jobs on the car.

Northern belle mk1 is almost done. Fuel tank printed and painted, few bits moved about on the underframe. Just the air brake equipment and exhaust to fit. Few small paint touch ups as well.

And of course 43277. Driver who im painting this for wanted it weathered. I have never weathered a loco so was a little bit stressful but think i have got the balance of running grim and light body side streaks about right. Finished in satin varnish so it looks used but not to manky. Pic are prior to satin varnish and are still glossy but you get the idea. He is happy with it so thats made it worth the effort.

Need to think what the next project will be now these are done

New toy this week... well for me anyway. My brother has given me a ender 3. Its most likely due to his new rapid prototyping one arriving or he was fed up of me wanting stuff printed.

But what to make first, finishing off 999606. Was lucky enough to pass through the prototype a month back and have made up a fairly close to prototype interior.

20230615_201940.jpg.6d3ea8f4539feff0a2f975aebed0dafb.jpg

Humming away and the painted article. Just a quick brush paint job wont see much of it until the interior and external lights are done. The genny compartment makes a perfect spot to hide a decoder.

Just the table tops and work stations to make out of plasticard. Quite happy with that. No doubt be more bits for various projects printed when i think of them

Northern belle 1953 a step closer to being done, just need to find the evergreen plastic bits i stored in a "safe" location.

Box of goodies through the door yesterday in the form of mk1 duel fitted brake bits. Not that you can see much of it with the being painted black but still rounds off the underframe changes quite well. Also in the pictures is the fuel tank i make up and the various underslung boxes i have moved about using video stills of the coach as a ref. Turns out most only take pictures of the shiney loco on the front!

20230618_131231.jpg.293bf5e8a460a914818977dd44c3d818.jpg20230618_131218.jpg.e2853bbd2769fab1804feb1de79de17c.jpg

And some better pictures of 43277 which heads back to its owner on the 29th. Really happy with it and i think it would be rude not to get some pictures of it on some test stock so expect them later in the week
