Somerset Railway Modellers Club is pleased to announce that Rail Ex Taunton returns this year on 21st & 22nd October 2017. The show will be bigger (and hopefully better) than any previous year as we have managed to secure a large additional exhibition space previously used for weddings. This development has enabled us to increase the layout count to approx. 30 and increase the trade support.

Over the past few months there have been a few changes to the original trader and layout list, these are as follows,

Additional layout added North Hurst (OO)

Total number of layouts stands at 29.

Only two weeks to go until Rail Ex TAUNTON the annual exhibition organised by Somerset Railway Modellers Club. The website has had a final update this evening to reflect the significant changes to the show for 2017 due to the expansion of our traditional venue, Taunton School,

The website (http://www.somersetrmc.org.uk/Rail-EX/index.html) is a comprehensive source of information about the show and has a dedicated page (http://www.somersetrmc.org.uk/Rail-EX/2017%20Plans.html) outlining the changes in place for this BIGGER & BETTER show.

We hope you enjoy the show.

Yes, you too can now get to drive along approx a quarter of a mile of the formation of the old Taunton Goods Avoiding lines, on the new Taunton Northern Inner Relief road (or whatever they finally decided to call it).

A project that was indeed hugely expensive, appallingly managed and of questionable value to the council tax payers of Somerset.

Significant alterations to the layout of various sidings and a vital telecoms cable route were necessary on the Network Rail side, but at least we got three brand new sidings out of it (it was necessary to be quite firm with the council about that last bit, mind).

Rail Ex Taunton at Taunton School is only a couple of days away (Sat 21 Oct and Sun 22nd Oct). Some people refer to the show as the 'Taunton Eatathon' due to the quality and quantity of food served in the Taunton School restaurant. The menu this year is,

BREAKFAST (8.00 to 10.45)

Toast, Bacon or Sausage Baps

SATURDAY LUNCH (11.30 to 2.00)

Lasagna

Chicken Korma

Steak & Kidney Pie

Battered Cod & Chips

Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni

Apple Sponge & Custard

SUNDAY LUNCH (11.30 to 2.00)

Roast Topside of Beef & Yorkshire Pudding

Roast Turkey & Cranberry Sauce

Roast Pork & Apple Sauce

Vegetable Curry

Apple & Apricot Crumble & Custard

Hopefully see you on Sat 21st or Sun 22nd Oct and remember there are 32 quality layouts supported by 23 trade stands to compliment the food. If you do not like crowds then the Sunday would be the better experience. Even 'Storm Brian' is coming to see the show on Saturday!

Yes just enjoyed the show, you can bring back next year H and A models a fest of wagon kits and paint and transfers, well stocked up with a winters worth of wagon building, layouts were OK as well all right more than OK excellent

But the biggest problem was deciding between bacon or sausage rolls for dinner

I saw someone putting tomato ketchup onto a sausage butty - how can you do that & then eat it?

Brown sauce, yes, but sausage butties & tomato ketchup just don't go together!

Well that might well have been ME !

I ask you how can the human stomach tolerate brown sauce on sausages Uggh!

Running a B&B I can tell you tomato sauce consumption far exceeds the brown uck!

Tempted to go back to the show again today for more ! .....of the show that is

How can you say that, you swine! That's a breach of his human rights to deny someone putting tomato ketchup onto his sausage sarnie! I shall get the Tomato Sauce Police  knocking on your door sunshine....

The usual sandwiches, rolls, crisps and cakes are available as well.

By the time I got to the refectory, about 1400, it seemed sandwiches and rolls had been exhausted, but the polite man in the corridor advised me that bacon baps were still available, and a young lady - presumably a sixth-former - made me one while I waited.

I greatly enjoyed the show, spent a bit of money, felt my trip from Torquay had been more than worthwhile.

Glad you had a good time. I hope some of the cakes were left to tempt you. I don't have the figures to know if attendance was up, if so that could be why the sandwiches had run out Unfortunately I didn't see you to say hello

I thought I caught sight of you, Don, but you were in earnest conversation with someone, so it was not the moment to say hello!

lots of unsavory & unfriendly things

Be careful  -  this thread's in danger of turning into the sossij butty sauce wars.

If that happens it'll attract all the wrong people & then it's only a matter of time before it ends up like the Peco bull#### bullhead/ MRJ & 4mm gauge wars threads  -  locked!

And then you'll be sorry.

My first visit to the show and was certainly not disappointed! Very well set out, excellent selection of trade, and of course lots and lots of stunning layouts! Will certainly be back next year. :locomotive:
