Persephone
All this weekend, 6 Class 40s on view, 5 running! http://www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/events-activities/2018/4/40s-at-60.aspx Edited April 14, 2018 by Persephone
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted April 14, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 14, 2018 (edited) Had a fantastic day at Bury yesterday. Highlight of the day was a double header with blue pairing of 40012/40145 on blue greys, but just before departure saw a blue 55009 pull into platform 4, and 40135 in blue arrive in platform 3. Took me right back to the 1980’s. Interesting seeing blue grey mk1’s on B4 bogies on a preserved line. Edited April 14, 2018 by adb968008

Nimbus
D213 is clearly in good hands. Wonder if they used the BR painting diagram I gave them a few years ago? The Nim.
jessy1692
Excellent day out today over at the ELR, pity D200 wasnt operational, hopefully the class 40 chaps can weave their magic on it whilst it there...
RMweb Gold 96701 Posted April 15, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2018 40012 seems to have an extra scotch, also when I was involved with 40s at Kingmoor in the seventies, scotches had a shaft attached that made them easy to place and remove. What happened to the shaft / handle? It strikes me that one would have to get one's hand in a somewhat more dangerous place to remove them without a shaft / handle. RMweb Premium uax6 Posted April 16, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 16, 2018 I'm surprised they haven't moved on to using these: Safety Scotch (Depot Protection Equipment) at the bottom of this page: https://www.petebriddon.co.uk/products.html seems a much better arrangement for a 130 ton machine that is known to want to be on the move all the time... Owd Bob
Had a really grand day out with my old '70's spotting mate yesterday, it brought all the sights, smells and sounds rushing back, due to health issues i could only manage half a day of being pulled up and down the line by these great machines, thanks and all credit to everyone who is involved in their preservation and for organising such a great get together, my membership renewal is in the post! my pics are'nt the best but here they are anyway.
caradoc
I too had a great day at this event, in my case on Friday. Having 5 of the 6 preserved Class 40s working was remarkable, well done and thanks to all concerned. Correction; There are of course 7 preserved 40s (Thanks Tug002). Zomboid
Is that the full set of surviving 40s? I can't think of any others than 200 212 213 306 335 and 345, but I don't really follow them. Very impressive to get so many in one place either way.
Tug002
There is a 7th preserved Class 40 - 318,which was being restored at Tyseley the last I heard. Edited April 17, 2018 by Tug002
25901
Yes, 40118 is at Tyseley and is having full overhaul. They might be doing this slowly but they are doing it right, no half measures. As for scotches with handles I hate them, always in the way and tripping over them
gismorail
I was sorry to miss this event from the pictures and accounts on this weekend it would appear that it is been a massive success well done to all involved ...
Jenny Emily
I was there on the Friday and was impressed that many of the trains were standing room only. It must have been really well attended on the Saturday and Sunday.
Owd Bob
It was busy on the Sunday when we arrived at just short of 9.00 am and they were queuing out the station door at Bury Bolton St. it was standing room on the first train up to Rawtenstall, full of balding or Grey haired, beer bellied Men, all at a certain age which i'd guess was between 45 & 60,
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted April 17, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2018 It must have been really well attended on the Saturday... It was certainly busy on Saturday. This was the 'state of play' at Ramsbottom station at 9.40am on Saturday morning when the timetable was only just getting underway. All the services I went on during the day were well filled. The East Lancs seem pretty pleased with the weekend; https://twitter.com/elrchairman/status/985969704526336001

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted April 17, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2018 Following the event, on 17th April 2018, D9009 taking D200 and D213 through Brighouse with 0Z03, 12.00 Bury East Lancs Railway to York NRM.
Steamport Southport
Not a bad attendance then, considering Llangollen had a gala and there was also a diesel event at the Great Central. Jason

Pete the Elaner
Ahh poo, thought id read D200 was stopping for a bit with Aureol. Lets hope the NRM get it working soon I suspect they won't. NRM seem to favour preserving locos as they are when there are classmates running. A noteable exception being Scotsman because it is the only A3 left. Zomboid
It is probably hard for the NRM to justify the expense of bringing a loco back when there are already 5 running examples. If they have that money to spend then something unique/ less common would seem a better use of the funds.

Oh i know the NRM aint too fussed about working diesels, was sort of hoping the class 40 chaps might have had a look at it n taken it on loan for a bit to do up if there wasnt much wrong with it. Anyone know whats broken on D200? Cheers James
