I wondered if I painted this guy in black clothes and lengthened the hair weather he might make a suitable Castle.......

Jaz, it's nice to see that Pastel and I are enjoying the beach. I must say that you have done a very good job as those figures resemble me and Pastel brilliantly. No visit to the beach is complete without fish and chips or an ice cream- hint hint.

Hornby embankment steps, I have two, and you don't want to know what price they go for second hand!!!

I have just seen a couple on ebay -  I nearly had a fit. £25 - £30  :O. They make dcc decoders appear cheap.

Jaz,

I do like your fishermen.  Clever to put some on the key, it is less of a cliché.

Primers.  I have used Halfords primer on A C Stadden's figures with no loss of detail.  Just one quick sweep.  You need to let them dry properly before you turn them over and do the other side or the primer pulls off the raised points when you pull them off.  (Now how do I know that? )

They were only like £7.00 originally, I bought 2 because they were nice...wish I had bought 4 or even 6. But I won't pay that price that is why I built my own steps

Am I still the sole bidder? - really sorry I can't help it - too much time spent on the jokes thread. Those fishermen look really good - That is such a skill to paint those small items.  I suppose the next job is to plaice them on AV. They would look better spaced out than lined up in roes.

Only if you dab a bit of colour here and there JC

It might cost ya a few squid

What sort of noise does a bass make

You Cod ask Jaz is she knows     :yahoo:

I recieved a question about Locomotive detection.

In general there are two types of detection,

occupancy, that detects current being drawn in a section of track and

Point or position detection which relies on a switch of some description, opto, magnetic, rfid etc being triggered.

There is also vectorisation, which uses ultra sound or laser or radio to triangulate the position but is far less common.

Of course having detected a loco you the need to do something with it, i.e trigger a signal or sound, or maybe run automated schedules

Hardware wise use digitrax bdl168 and for software i use rr&co traincontroller gold.

I have also used, itrain, rocrail and jmri, but though more expensive i do prefer train controller

and once coloured popped on the layout......with some items that had been added previously

Ok now....calm down.........no panicking.....no eye tests required.....this is a railway layout....there is track.....

Anyway the point is to show off the details as they are added...the heaters are just plonked down, the black cables don't really show

med_gallery_17883_2760_341960.jpgrmweb1591kalboro34

although the full yellow telephones look nice though, they also are just pushed in and can be relocated as required

med_gallery_17883_2760_153184.jpgrmweb1592kalboro36

a little closer, the point motors are unpainted and just popped down at the second

If you cut the ends off the tie bars on the points it makes a vast improvement!

Portlyn harbor is looking fantastic!

When alter ego Sasquatch throws a Frisbee off the end of that sea wall, Bobo would leap off and catch it before diving into the waves! In fact that looks like what is going on in your picture!!!

Hi

How did you plan the sensor positions, I appreciate every layout is different and some large and some small. In general larger layouts have longer rakes and smaller layouts have smaller rakes so the difference is proportional.

Did you set out working blocks based on train and carriage size?

What problems did you encounter? Position, speed, slowing down, sequence, or other problem?

I am looking at the Hornby Loco Detection due out later this year. We don't know how it will work yet but believe it is a sensor in a sleeper reading a tag below the loco.

Thanks for any help or suggestions ypu may have.

PJ

I break down the layout into blocks, a block being a length of track in which a train can stop. The length of the blocks are at least 6 inches longer than my longest train but it some cases much longer. Anything shorter is not a block and so needs no detection.

Blocks never contain turnouts.

With occupancy type detection..

I only need to know when a block is occupied and by what and also when it is empty. Because trains run on rails then

If train 1 leaves block a in a westerly direction then taking into account the turnouts settings the train arriving in block b must be train 1......

It only needs to be this simple which far simpler than man people imagine.
