RMweb Premium glasmonkey Posted April 11, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 11, 2014 Hi, here are some photos of my class 47, it has a heavily filed down Heljan chassis and a Hornby network southeast body. I have a Vitrains 47 and a Bachmann but I think this one has turned out ok?!! Thanks for looking! Rob.
rob D2
Wow, that's good, but a lot of work I imagine !
RMweb Gold Downendian Posted April 11, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2014 Interesting- I've just done this to a Heljan chassis to fit to a Lima 47 body. Quite a bit was filed off the chassis and the corners chamfered too, but fit it does. I'll post some pics in my workbench thread of the progress. It gives added life to the rather good Lima tooling by putting an excellent power unit under it. Neil
the penguin of doom
I'd agree, some extreme hacking there with a pleasant result. Cheers. Sean.

RBE
Very nice. I would say that it actually looks better shape wise that all of the current offerings, the 'face' is brilliant. Just shows how Hornby had the basics right from the start.
RMweb Premium glasmonkey Posted April 14, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 14, 2014 Yes I am pleased with the face although I need make the front windows bigger and slightly re-profile the roof at the front.
Vin
Hi all, That is a real conversion job. Making the Hornby body (a 30 year old mould) look realistic is an art in itself. Then going to the trouble of milling the chassis off a tubby Heljan is bad enough. You have done a great job. I personally think the old Lima body mould had more finesse apart from their flush fronted versions. Anyway a great job all round. Vin
Griffin Road
Nice job . Never seen that combination before . A load of ' proper modelling ' work ! Well done . Mike b
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted April 15, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 15, 2014 Hi Rob, Your model looks very nice, well done. I too agree that the old Hornby body captures the feel of a Class 47. I have a old video (yes VHS) with a head on shot of a Brush Type 4 approaching the camera and it looks like a Hornby loco. RMweb Gold Downendian Posted April 15, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2014 Stan Pyke's website gives some more ideas re these "hybrid" approaches. That's where I pinched the idea from. Bang goes cheap Heljan chassis! Must say the Hornby model scrubs up rather well in glasmonkeys first post. http://www.sgpyke.co.uk/railway/locos/Class%2047%20mods.htm Neil
