davefrk
Thank you for putting our new 4mm LBSC bufferstop in the digest but can I just point out that the photo is of the masters which are made from code 75 rail and plastic held together with Blutac. The finished product is all metal.. Regards, Dave Franks. Edited December 20, 2018 by davefrk
rue_d_etropal
The tiny Inspection Car under discussion was built by Drewry in 1915, their works number 615, to replace earlier cars from around 1904, based on simple road vehicles, such as the East Croydon Engineers' Alldays and Onions car. I have found it in the list now. I only scanned through the list last night, and said I could have missed it. Thanks Nick, I would still like todo a model if there are any drawings around. There is a bit of info in the Drewry book. Apparently it differered from standard(Type B?), extended dashboards and half windscreens, with 24in diameter wheels , 79in wheelbase.Type B wa a pretty basic machine, pretty common. Amazingly there is actually a photo in the Drewry book, as well as one of the ladder car, works number 619. burgundy
Eric,I have not had any messages from you relating to the well wagon,I wonder if some messages are disappearing again. Often worth trying all my links, ie RMweb, Facebook, Shapeways as well as my email. Simon My apologies; I can only assume that it is still orbiting in cyber space two months later. I hope that any prospective purchaser will not be put off by my comments, as the ribbing was very easy to remove. And I look forward to publishing a photo of one of these wagons, complete with the Sussex Artillery Volunteers' gun, mounted in its armoured turntable. Best wishes Eric

Amazingly there is actually a photo in the Drewry book, as well as one of the ladder car, works number 619. I prepared my own drawings, based on drawings by Ken Longbottom (I think) of the similar North Staffordshire Inspection car, Drewry Works No. 1200, so much older, but still a standard B type, which appeared in Model Railways in the seventies. I uilt mine around a Black Beetle motorised chassis, using the smallest wheels then available, 10.5mm with a 24mm wheelbase, so, to a certain extent, the slightly shorter wheelbase compensated for the larger wheels. Is the Drewry book the IRS Baguley one, and what does 615 look like? I would like to find out more about the pair that went to the Brighton, as there seems to be little gen about the ladder car too. I had hoped it would have more drawings, but it is still a good reference. I have had a look at the list of documents preserved in the past, but it is difficult to cross reference, and I think the museum is currently reorganising. The NSR one says 'canopy,, which sounds very similar. The photos in book, are probably good enough to do a drawing from, but if thee are drawings out there I would be interesed. My designs go from N up to gauge 1(1/32). A gauge 1 model would not be that big, I hve just started a small modular gauge 1 layout. Just had a look through the Stafford list, and it does record a drawing for standard gauge type B, which would be pretty close to original LBSCR and NSR versions. RMweb Premium Northroader Posted January 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) Marc, I gather the trick is to go to the title bar and change the issue number to the one you want. burgundy
Five years after the original issue of the Digest, many things will have moved on - including technology - and eyesight! However, the basic format of the Digest has not and it is perhaps time to check whether some of the original assumptions remain valid. The format - big pictures and a large typeface - was adopted because there was a feeling that many readers would be using hand held devices - tablets and similar and that this would be an increasing trend. Using small type for a small screen seemed unnecessarily challenging! At the time, hand held devices seemed to be on the increase, but is that still true or has technology moved in different directions? It would be helpful to have views on two questions. How do you like the current format? (What works well? What works less well?) What device(s) do you use to read the digest? Best wishes Eric
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted June 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 26, 2019 Eric, it's another great issue!! 5 years on the Digest sill hasn't had a bad issue!! I like the current format, everything is easy to read, at the pictures are always great. I usually read on my laptop with the zoom set to about 75%, which makes 1 page fit on my screen quite nicely. I personally would leave it as is. Gary 5
RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted June 26, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2019 Another laptop reader here. I find the layout very easy on the eyes and, like Gary, see no reason to change.
RMweb Premium 30368 Posted June 26, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2019 Just discovered this blog and looked through some of the issues of the digest. Devo63
G'day Eric, I've been downloading and reading the Digest since issue 0 and been impressed in the way the the magazine has developed over that time. In my opinion the mix of illustrations and text is at about the right level and I definitely like the larger size photographs accompanying the articles. I only read this on my PC so I can't comment on any other operating platform. I always look forward to each new issue - this coming from a 'dyed in the wool' Great Western fan. Dana Ashdown
Hello Eric, I've always enjoyed reading the Digest, even if I don't model LBSCR (aside from one or two wagons). I read it on a laptop, and have had no trouble with it. So, like the others have said, please don't change for the sake of change. Dana 1
Signalman Rich
Hello Eric. It was great to see the photos of Vintner's Yard in Digest 9 - a reminder of the enjoyable Nailsea show. I too view on a laptop and think that the current format is excellent. No need to change the format - something about 'gilding a lily' comes to mind. Running Firefox and Vista. Pete Pete Sorry to hear about the problem. I don't think I have heard of anyone else encountering anything similar. Plan C - Google "LB&SCR Modellers Digest". If it comes up with an earlier issue, simply alter the number at the end of the URL to the issue that you want. Hope this helps Best wishes Eric
