  1. Not necessarily Sam; it just has to be railway related.

    Dapol 'Western'

From the dialogue I've had it seemed to have been the factory who moved them (from the CAD elements provided) on the assumption that they were incorrect. The error is being corrected.

That's correct, this shot of robertcwp's that's appeared here shows the offset - http://www.flickr.com/photos/robertcwp/2189197301/
  4. BP; it would certainly be helpful as a reference point from the online voting 'forms' so that voters can get a good overview of the entry.
  5. is rebuilding images and the gallery at the mo. There may be intermittent interruptions in the Gallery.

A further update for you courtesy of Dapol Dave on the CADs for the Western. Currently the Western is complete in a single CAD form but the following issues have been identified to be addressed. 1) The manufacturer has altered the grilles so they are on the centre line and not offset 2) The fuel tank and battery boxes are hollow and instead should be filled with metal and a cavity for a very large speaker inserted. This will also allow the addition of the pipes under the fuel tank. 3) The exhausts require more modelling as they are not yet satisfactory This particular CAD output does not include the step access points in the bodyside and the opening grille for later examples etc. That all important brow above the windows is looking very good as are the complex angles and curves across the face of the loco. I really hope that the prizes aren't cracking! Dodgy mazak chassis?

  8. Yes please! It's a regret that mine are lost in the mists of time, grainy B&W snaps from a Zenit EM in murky weather processed in dad's darkroom (the larder). Nah, it's probably as well they're lost.
  9. thanks Pirouets for the document he did on what reas of the site can be improved which concentrated thoughts and improvements over the last few days.

  10. In theory I doubt someone would be using a tortoise within such a project but that isn't what I intended to mean by a control mechanism or panel. Anyway have you run out of menus and buttons to pick on?
  11. I'm happy to say that any control mechanisms or panels, power supplies and such like can fall outside the 20" x 11".
  12. has just managed to start cracking the banner ads in the site header for the first time in 20 months!

It's amazing what you don't notice till you're told... Looks good though - and I'm liking the column format for the sub-forums!

  13. Thanks Michael, It would be unfair to adjust any of the parameters at this stage particularly as they've appeared in print and not just on here. The 20" x 11" was designed to facilitate certain things (witness ovals in 'T') and limit others (reducing the temptation to make 4mm+ 'work'). I know that's not the answer you're ideally seeking though.
  14. I'll look forward to seeing Combwich again this weekend Chris. I've edited the post to embed the video. To embed a youtube clip click on the 'Media' icon (at the far right of the line of symbols) in yer Wysiwig and paste the youtube url in between the tags. It should then show.
  15. has tidied up the subforums to give a reasonable balance between clarity and space.

  19. The bottom of the baseboard framing Gary.
  20. Noooo, the maximum base size is 20" x 11" unless you want your layout to perform on a 1 in 4 incline?
  21. No reason why not Stuart. Thanks.
  22. Sorry; I'd missed that. That's perfectly permissible but there'd be bags of bonus points for making that operate!
  23. Technically no; would it be possible to make a chimney sectional for example so it can fit within it? I know that may sound harsh but most of the questions in here have been how to get around any limits and if I relax in one way it could mean someone being a little bit more liberal than another which may secure some advantage which would be unfair.
  24. saw that the Doctor got involved with a bit of 3D printing last night.
