RMweb and Model Rail join forces to bring a modelling challenge to our readers. This is an opportunity for readers of both resources to tackle a small project over the summer months and produce a diorama.
The diorama should fit within a 20†x 11†footprint although it needn’t be that size or rectangular in shape. Scale doesn’t matter either; you could choose to do something in 7mm scale or larger for the first time or at the other extreme ‘T’ gauge or even smaller. You may even choose to turn it on end and have a diorama that is 11†x 11†in area and 20†in height.
The diorama should be railway related and could represent a cameo of small detail in a large scale through to the foyer of a major terminus, imagination and creativity is the key. Your model can be static or operational and is not limited by any geographical or era boundaries.
Focussing on originality will test creative skills and it is an opportunity to try new skills and techniques that may pay dividends in your larger modelling projects in the future.
It is a challenge after all!
The best way of entering the 2011 Challenge is to record your build process on RMweb in this forum where you can interact with other entrants, seek answers to any questions you may have and to fly your flag and gain a following of interested readers.
Alternatively, if you don’t wish to register on RMweb, you can submit your entry with images via email to info@rmweb.co.uk and your entry will be entered into the voting process.
The Challenge is open until 1st October 2011 at which point a list of completed entries submitted by that date will be published on 3rd November and voting will run until 3rd December and voted for online by RMweb and Model Rail readers based on the following criteria:
• Visual impact
• Prototypical interest
• Originality
Results will be published in Model Rail 164 and on RMweb. A progress report will feature in Model Rail prior to the closing date highlighting entries.
A prize for the winner
The overall winner of the Challenge will receive a prize of model railway equipment, books and DVDs worth £250 and a year’s free subscription to Model Rail.
