  1. After your previous post without a photo, I was fully expecting the photo to be of a real, 12"/ft scale shed, with recycled door and window...

    On Cats

It's soon going to be a legal requirement - as it already is for dogs. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-57068182
  3. The one in the middle of that photos looks like it's bolted (started to flower) - unless you want to save the seeds, you're better off nipping off the bud so that it puts it's energy into growing the bulb rather than the seeds. more important with onions than with garlic I believe.
  4. I'd not thought of that combination - I guess that's what some of the museums do when you see those kinds of credits in their images.
  5. Indeed - I've noticed a few photographs floating around with "Copyright <name> <date>, original photographer unknown" - which of course is impossible, as without knowing who the original photographer is, they can't possibly have acquired the copyright...
  6. The real problem is that the rules aren't enforced - so while the law says that opting out must be just as easy as opting in, 90% of sites out there make it a real pain to opt out, but nothing is done about it. This is certainly one of the better ones - at least it was only two clicks here (I've just tried it in a new broswer just to see what came up, and there was a nice reject all button on the second page, so kudos to Warner Media there)
  7. I was going to cite the following webcomic: https://xkcd.com/891/ But then I realised that too is a decade old!
  8. That's true - however the IoW stock was certainly painted in fully lined livery - there's plenty of photos. Other stock that was expected to last past around 1926 or so would have been repainted after the grouping as well, and may well have been lined - even if it was later relegated to hop-picking duties etc.
  9. I believe there were a few rakes of 4/6 wheelers on the SR (mainland) that just scraped into the thirties on hop-pickers duties, excursions etc. The Bluebell have a couple of 6 wheelers with 1935 withdrawal dates. The LCDR 4-wheelers sent over to the IOW mostly lasted until 36/37, with a couple of exceptions that lasted through the war in parcels use.
  10. Neutral colours would have been fine - it's the gloss black kitchen units they fitted that look really bad...
  11. The previous owners of our house decorated the whole thing in black and white, with grey carpets. It looked awful! We're slowly working our way through making it actually homely again...
  12. At least you know all the bits are somewhere in that box. Mine seem to have become spread over several boxes, and I have no idea what's where...
  13. Our vets currently have a 'one adult per pet' policy, but haven't been enforcing it, at least not when we've been there (I presume they do at busier times). I can't see how making the owners wait outside would work, as how then does the vet ask you questions about the pet's symptoms?
  14. Indeed, perhaps I should have said "scratching his head, looking into the crater"
  15. An AA box adjacent to the road leading to the goods yard, could then be accompanied by a patrolman on a motorbike attending to the remains of a bus on the bridge...
  16. UK motorsport switched over to orange hi-vis a few years ago, for what I suspect was the same reason as the railway in the first place - to avoid any risk of confusion with yellow flags.
  17. BBC opinion piece today on the inevitable decline of petrol stations over the next few decades as EVs become more prevalent: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57416829 An interesting point raised is that in many rural areas, the petrol station has replaced the village shop - so while those in towns won't be missed, we need to be careful to ensure that smaller communities aren't left without anywhere to buy a pint of milk...
  18. Not the 7mm wartime Ventnor West that was in RM? The research for that contained some rather large howlers unfortunately (such as an assertion that all passenger services stopped for the duration, which would have rather upset all the workers in the Cowes shipyards, and the use of warwell wagons, which would have been way too heavy for the island's PW)
  19. May I also recommend "Isle of Wight Steam Passenger Rolling Stock" (Maycock/Reed, Oakwood Press, 9780853615071), the Middleton "Branch Lines to Newport", and the excellent series "Once upon a line" by Andrew Britton - not so much modelling interest in the latter, but four volumes of interviews with railwaymen (and women) who worked on the island in steam days.
  20. Convenient for them maybe, not for me! Doesn't surprise me though, everyone and their dog these days is pushing you to download yet more apps...
  21. No no no, it has to be the big red one marked "do not press"...
  22. 3. A requirement for all public chargers to support the standard (type 2/CCS?) charging socket, so you can turn up anywhere in any make of car and know you'll be able to charge it - and not get to your hotel in your Hyundai and find they only have Tesla chargers. 4. Standardise the payment system, so you don't have to end up with half a dozen different apps/memberships for different networks of chargers. At the very least make sure all support py as you go, and limit any surcharges/increased rates they impose for using pay-as-you-go. Currently I can go to any filling station in the country with my Toyota, and pay with my Mastercard - I don't have to worry that they only support BMWs and members of their scheme - I expect the same flexibility when I switch to an EV.
  23. Definitely yellow, at least according tohe the 1933 SR rulebook...
  24. Just have the beer and curries delivered through the window.
