  1. Two buildings ordered for Pendeford Sdgs

  2. Lovely work on the goods shed Iain, I really love the way you've created the inlaid brickwork and skylights. Simon
  3. Al if it's any help I can measure up a lever I've got in my loft that's from a BR frame to give you a rough idea on length and width etc. Simon
  4. Al excellent work on the MR tumbler frame with 6" lever spacing changed to 6" or 41/2" when adopted by the LMS and R.S.Co, I used the LMS 1943 version whilst I was at Watery Lane and the BR(M) version whilst at Madeley Junction. Version No3 really looks to me like the MR frame, the only thing I would say is the lever needs to be thinner otherwise it will look great when it's painted and in the box interior. Simon

  6. Some great work here Al, I'm a fan of signalling and to see your work on expanding the MR Type4c is a joy to behold. Keep up the updates. Simon
  7. Thanks for dropping by Al, yep the Block shelf is from Littletons Sidings as well as a Signal mans locker, I've also got a booking desk from Bescot Up Hump. I'm currently waiting for some more bits to come from Gaugemaster and Hattons and I'm also working late turn which means there won't be much progress until I switch to Nights on Friday. Simon
  8. Clive I've got this drawing of a Portal structure at Aston station on the Grand Junction that may of be use to others as it's got dimension I have also got a large selection of OHLE pictures from around Stafford and Stoke of Portals, masts, Tensioners and Termination masts. Simon
  9. Andy I'll be sure to check the pictures out, I'm always ready to learn something new. Thanks for the comments Scot it's been tricky adding the high level section but it should make for some intersting running as both incines are quite steep,by the way your Redbrook thread helped pass a good chunk of my Night shift last night following all your ideas and changes ;o). The buildings are Walthers Cornerstone products which are very adaptable and the range is hugem, they even do a steel works with a coking plant, maybe an idea for your next addition to Redbrook? Cheers Simon
  10. Some food for thought here Andy, when I get round to wagon building I'll make sure I refer to this for my weathering. Simon
  11. Thanks for checking in Andy and I hope that's a fresh brew in the mug , couldn't agree more on the freight interest although i have got a few Bachman MK1s and some parcels stock that I intend to run through once in a while. Simon
  12. A really busy layout from the pictures, nice work by the way on your Class 37 repaints you've really captured the work stained look . Simon
  13. 90s retro , great period with some great liveries and they look great on your layout, I was tempted to choose this period but plumbed for the 60's and 70's. Simon
  14. Well I've made so more progress, I've now added the bus feed all the way around the layout as well as a start on the track work on the high level section, this will be the site of Hickmans Glass Co sdgs. It's slow progress as I'm having to fit it in around my shifts and wait for track etc to arrive in the post. Cheers Simon

  16. Andy the area I'm dabbling with is Pendeford, North of Wolverhampton and just off the Stafford road as I say it's fictional so I don't intend adding any "real world" locations Thanks for the comments Andy, that track plan was a very poor representation I knocked up in paint to give me an idea of how to do the elevated section, the curves will be 4th and 3rd radius. I don't intend running any fast trains it will mainly be for trip freight pottering from one point to another. Simon
  17. Hello, I've now got to the point where I thought I'd start my own layout thread and share some progress. I've been into model railways since I first started noticing trains where I grew up in Blythe Bridge on the North Staffs Derby Line, my first train was a little Hornby black tank engine, some wagons and a circle of track. As I grew older I dabbled at building my own layouts but never got any further than a bare baseboard and some track. Now I'm a little older and hopefully a little more wiser I thought I'd have another crack at building my own (serious) layout and stop playing trains on the carpet. Having first lived in Tipton before moving to Pendeford during my Railway career, I developed an interest in the Wolverhampton area and for one of my earlier layouts I imagined a fictional joint line built by the GW/LMS running from the Grand Jcn at Fordhouses via Pendeford to Oxley to enable a connection to the Wombourne line, along this line would be a small yard serving some local industries, hence the name Pendeford Sidings. I've always wanted to return to this idea and with a move to Newhaven six years ago our new house had a sizeable spare room, unfortunately other more pressing priorities dictated that my model layout took a back seat until of March this year when under orders from SWMBO I employed a professional carpenter to build my baseboards. With the baseboards complete I've added the board for the elevated section and cut the approach ramps from plywood, I've also slowly started obtaining Peco Code 75 track and made a start on adding a bus feed for my Roco multimaus controllers. The layout will have an elevated section to enable me to give the trains a longer run, on this elevated section will be a Glass works requiring trains of sand as well as coal for the boiler house that supplies steam for the factory, traffic out will be conveyed in vans, the other industry on this section may well be a Tar distillers to take advantage of those Hornby Midlands Tar distillers wagons, the lower level on the main baseboard will be the location of Pendeford Sidings, a small fiddle yard will be on the board on the opposite wall with the trap door. My aim for the layout is too depict the period from 1966 to 1974 and to enable me to run block trains into Pendeford sidings where they will be broken up and sorted into their respective trips for the two industrial concerns. I hope you enjoy the attached pictures and I hope to keep adding updates as I make some progress. Regards Simon
