  1. Absolutely fantastic stuff James. You model the era I grew up myself in as well. Although from Scotland, I recall holidays to Bournemouth which of course meant a class 86 hauled Virgin set as far as either Preston or Birmingham. From then it was the class 47's to the south coast. I remember Didcot being packed of locos as it was mainly a Saturday travel. I'll look forward to seeing the rest of your grand plans pan out. Keep up the great work and keep posting....inspirational stuff
  2. Is it true that the current crops which the timber trains are working the stocks from is due to dry up soon (The Carlisle -Chirk)?
  3. No connection to the shop and never dealt with them until last week. Ordered late saturday night, parcel arrived this morning. Very polite email informing me of progress etc. Price for said purchase was the best ive seen. Will look forward to doing business with them again. great service guys!
  4. Excellent work as usual. Im always curious about what people have in terms of projects.....do you have a definitive list of locos you plan to model? Any clues?
  5. Is the intention to use class 60s on the Prestwick tanks from now on or is it simply a stop gap while the 56 we have in Scotland is working the engineers train?
  6. Go on, spill the beans. What's the proposed loco register looking like? Any locos in particular that you want to model? I'm particularly intrigued about what class 47s you are planning to model
  7. Sometimes, someone, does something that is very inspiring. I think this is one of those instances, those wagons look absolutely spot on. I assume your going to be sticking an equally run down grid or tractor on the front? As a slight aside, what locos are you planning on doing for this layout?
  8. Yep, thats because they can see past it! On the grand scheme of things our hobby is irrelevant. I had a funny conversation with a lady friend yesterday......"so, what, folk actually chase these things around and take lots of pictures.....thats a bit different" hahaha
  9. My experiences with woman and the hobby have been actually good to date. A very long term relationship (now ended....no, it was not the hobby) and quite a few gf's along the way. All have just nodded in agreement with what i have said and actually think the fact a great deal of my photography is published is rather good All i can say is that if someone cant see past our hobby then why would you be interested in them, its simply narrow minded on their part!
  10. Well, thought i should give my review on the two i purchased if anyone is interested. Both models are absolutly mint. No signs of excessive grease or the like. On running, both models run very smoothly, initially they were a little hesitant however, after a bit of running in they soon became much quieter and became more responsive. Im running both models on DC so not sure if the issue people are having are related to the fact they are dcc and its causing electrical issues. Having watched this thread carefully, i am a little concerned that both locos could fail as quick as they have ran. Not good for Bachmann, we have been so used to high quality mechanisms its disappointing they have went to a system that is not as reliable as the trusted tested type we have got used to.
  11. I wasnt suggesting to buy it from them, merely saying there are pictures for you to see it. I agree though, lets help the preservation efforts
  12. Theres a couple on ebay if anyone wants a gander. Hattons etc not yet uploaded pics....looks good to me!
  13. Sir, take a bow, that 47 looks stunning. The weathering on the bogie areas is particularly effective as is the roof colour. I would be very pleased with myself if i produced anything along these lines.
  14. Just noticed on the Bachmann website these are now showing delivery for december/january. I cant help but wonder if Bachmann are perhaps building the real scale thing to surprise us all
  15. Excellent modelling. Can i ask where you get the jig for keeping the chassis square when constructing the cambrian kits? It looks a great tool and one that id quite like to procure me thinks
  16. "Anyway back to them Trout - apparently Cambrian are doing a "Mackerel" soon(ish)" Does anyone know any more about this?this would certainly give more engineers variety especially now the sturgeon kit is being done!"
