  1. This is a peach of a layout. So simple but so effective. I think the sound locos add to this layout. A lot of layouts with sound lose it with the size. Keep up the good work....more pics please
  2. If that's the case, and its held at those prices, they might have a winner. Will be interesting to see what Bachmann do in terms of timescales to release their model before Heljan. At that price, its cheaper than Bachmann and SLW if they do one. The motors are always good from Heljan.....exciting times ahead!
  3. Hi Folks, Looking for a bit of guidance. I have recently repainted a Hornby class 56 and the brass grills which are on the model have come off (don't ask). I've tried using liquid poly to set them back on but they jus come straight back off. We're gluing plastic to brass. What sort of glue should I be using? Thanks for any help
  4. I last visited this show about ten years ago and having heard positive things about it since, I made the journey north to have a look. I thought the show was well laid out with a great variety of quality layouts on show. Personal favourite was Calderside with the long snaking countryside scene along with the Bradford clubs layout. My only criticism which is not worth much is that there was far too much second hand stuff with overinflated prices for stuff which really should be in a skip now. The fact the entrance price was only £7 with free parking makes this to be a regular show which i'll take in in the years ahead. Well done for organising a great show which in my opinion easily rivals and slips ahead of the Glasgow
  5. I suspected that but always worth asking if someone knows more. I don't suppose those in the know are aware if the logs will run this week?
  6. Hi all, Can anyone confirm why the Carlisle logs have not ran in several weeks? thanks
  7. Gents, Thank you all so much for the wealth of information, this site is fantastic for these sort of queries. The standard 3MT 2-6-0 77000 series doesn't appear to be available in model form (oo)? Is this the same as the Ivatt 2-6-0?
  8. Thanks very much for all the information. Regarding the standards, I'm a not up to speed with the various different types despite a bit of research. I've seen images of standard 3MT locos (not tank), does anyone produce these? That website link is brilliant. Even if slightly incorrect, its a wealth of information
  9. Hi Folks, I'm looking at constructing a layout set in Ayrshire in the last days of steam, circa 1962 and was looking for some advice regarding what locos would have still been running in that period? I'm aware that I could justify Black 5 (Hornby), Mogul-Crab (Bachmann), Standard 5 (Bachmann), Fairburn (Bachmann) and Standard 80000 tanks (Bachmann) Can anyone advise what other models and locos would still have been seen? thanks for any information
  10. I wouldn't worry about it, we all get like this. My problem is, im more like this than not and sit viewing the internet for too many hours pondering about how good peoples layouts are! I've followed this thread for some time and thoroughly enjoy updates when they appear. Go and pull out some stock and play around with it, that generally gets my interest going!
  11. What about the Runcorn salt wagons that ran on enterprise workings and up to Scotland at Dalry....I'd have a few of them!
  12. Does the loco hauled sets work over the festive period, this week and next? If so, would anyone be able to advise what locos are working this week? Many thanks.
  13. Absolutely superb modelling. This is proof that less is more, yet, having an interesting setting with exquisite detailing, a model can come to life.
  14. If they can produce a tope at a reasonable price, £12 top"e".....I'd be tempted to get a rake. Nothing wrong with the current Parkside kit or Hornby RTR. Like others have said, many other wagons to be modelled.
  15. Agree with the pin trick. Find an extremely small pin head and use that the clean the hole. As the guys have said above, once you've sprayed, leave the can upside down and spray until the air runs clear. That clears any paint residue from the line
  16. Superb stuff James. As I've said before, this era is one of my modelling favourites. I'll need to get a layout set-up on here to post some images.
  17. Anyone fancy a split box class 37 for £105 notes. Model rail website have the loco, I've taken a few off their hands but they are still showing more than 10 in stock. This price is better than the new Bachmann 37049 which I'm sure many are waiting on.
  18. Good to see you posting again. Hereford model centre have CDA's in stock as do Hattons. They had them for £8 each a month or so ago, sold out now unfortunately
  19. Has anyone tried to put the lima/Hornby body on a Bachmann chassis? Good results?
  20. Thanks for the replies guys. Does the Hornby 101 body fit on a Bachmann chassis? Or is there any need in fact? Is this model fitted with the superior motor?
  21. Hi all, Would anyone be able to confirm if BR blue was the base colour for the repainted 101692 that was utilised between Cumbernauld and Motherwell in 1996-1999? I'm looking at doing a model of it but wasn't sure if the blue was a lighter Caley blue as opposed to BR. thanks for any help cheers 37403
  22. James, Excellent stuff as always. Look forward to see what's on the bench next.
  23. Disappointing to hear. You're modelling and the era in particular have given me a kick up the behind to get cracking. I've recently found the will to do a repaint for the first time. It's not perfect, but its the small things that make a difference to motivation. Maybe try build another few kits of the era etc, might give you a boost
  24. Hi all, As an novice to re-painting models, I've got what may seem a stupid question to the forum - irrespective, it's causing me an issue and would like to see if anyone can help me out. I'm re-spraying a class 37 into Dutch livery using cans. I had the yellow complete and went on to paint the lower grey. Having masked off the yellow, and completed the grey, last night I was gutted to see that the masking tape has lifted large areas of the yellow off. What have I done wrong? If I now go back to re-paint the yellow, by masking the grey, do I run the same risk? thanks for any information 37403
