Here's my Lily with some lillies
  2. Polly, as a guitarist, I fully sympathise, Eb is just about the hardest key for me, and on a woodwind, it can be hard too - the half covering is difficult. In order to drive in the "importance" of Eb my late father who was a professional musician, composer, and teacher, as well as a band musician, insisted that I learn various pieces in Eb including "Moonlight In Vermont" - which was a most wicked piece to learn, and I was not allowed a capo - it all had to be closed chords - my reward for this was to be an unpaid band member who also had to take over the driving to and from gigs. That meant he could get totally legless legally - and the lifestyle killed him aged 62. This rendition really takes me back there
  3. Will Ye Go Lassie - Trad Scottish
  4. Got to say that I prefer Katy myself, and that's what I'm drinking at the moment - I do like my cider to have a bit of a kick to it - and at 7.4% ABV, it has - but then I only drink one bottle a day, but it has the effect of two. Afternoon All Trip to Kendal was a waste of time as far as I was concerned, and the fact that we had to return for a house viewing at 3.00, and another at 3.30 meant that we had to rush home anyway. The guy from the estate agent didn't show up until about ten minutes after the appointment, by which time I was half way through the viewing anyway, as the person who wanted to view the house was on time, and came to the door. He did not have a 3.30 appointment on his sheet, so rang the office, and they advised him that the viewing was cancelled - and had been for three hours, but they had not actually notified us - well I sense a rant coming on on Monday to the manager. Anyway, not all posts read today, due to the time wasting estate agent. However, generic greetings are proferred to all who are ailing or celebrating. And Chrisf - nice to have you back in the fold. I hope that your "experts" haven't charged you too much (or at all, as it sounds as if they didn't really know what they were doing. A6 car boot tomorrow as a buyer, not a seller. Another 6.00 am rise. Regards to All Stewart
  5. Thanks for that - so have I,
  6. From Me To You - the guess whos
  7. Mailman Bring Me No More Blues - A very late Beatles release
  8. Funnily enough, I was about to ask after Chris after I'd caught up a bit - second expert sounds expensive - but to get all your precious data back, will probably be money well spent. Afternoon All As predicted the G word was uttered first thing - but not until I had taken a trip to Lidl as they'd got some t shirts in that I wanted - and they often only have one pack of each variety in my size - and so it proved, so being at the door as it opened was a good idea as I went round the shop for a few items, and saw a guy there who was looking for the same size, and who was asking one of the assistants whether they had any more XL - and received an answer in the negative. So then I got home, and did a bit of work around the garden - then a trip to the dump and we were going to the charity shops in Milnthorpe - only we couldn't get there as about a mile and a half out of the village, we encountered a tailback of stationary traffic. So did a U turn in a layby, and was sworn at by a "lady" in a BMW who, despite the tailback was still trying to fill the gap which I had just created. I don't know what it is about these German cars which seems to engender such aggressive driving. Then it was back home for a bit more gardening, and a quick shower is now indicated, followed by some pork and apple sausages with mashed potatoes and veg. Generic greetings are, as ever on offer, as I don't purport to have read all posts. Regards to All Stewart
  9. Leavin' On A Jet Plane - Peter Paul and Mary or the writer, who left on a plane for good - John Denver
  10. Afternoon All Not all posts read as I have been very busy - woke at 3.15 am, and didn't (AFAIK) get back to sleep - may have dozed a bit, and as we were on a fodder run this morning, to arrive at Lidl for 8 had to be up at 7 anyway. When we got back, 30747 announced that she had two training sessions to do via this laptop (well our only laptop, as the Samsung takes 15 minutes to boot, and is still running W7 as it wouldn't upgrade to W10) - of course that meant that it couldn't be used for anything else. Then the G word was uttered, and swear words like Hedge and Trimmer were being fired at me. Then I am alleged to have lost a pair of secateurs - and that is also allegedly the second pair to have disappeared. I suspect that they may both pairs have gone into the green bin - who was filling that - NOT ME. Anyway, I may be back tomorrow, but the G word has been uttered again, as have other domestic words whose meaning will become clear tomorrow. Meantime, all can offer is the usual generic greetings, but they are, as ever, offered with sincerity. Regards to All Stewart
  11. Rock And Roll Music - take your pick from many - I'll go with the fab 4's 1964 version
  12. Young Blood - a late Beatles offering (1994)
  13. I Started A Joke - Bee Gees
  14. Morning All Andy - just watch out with Early Retirement - if you are lucky enough to be in a final salary pension scheme, the ER reduction can be quite painful - the normal is around 1/2% off your estimated pension for each month early that you retire - ie 12% for each year - so with the Normal Retirement age being 66, you can find that your pension is a lot lower than you might expect - if you are in a money purchase scheme, then the annuity rates can be quite penal, given the current low interest rates which are prevailing - I was a pension professional for many (20+ years) - also be aware that there are lots of scammers out there, who appear to be good and genuine, but aren't. Morning All From a now able to hear 45156, whose ears were successfully syringed - thanks to nurse Lisa. Our practice still does this sort of ancillary work, thank God, but it appears that the "other lot" have discontinued much which was once regarded as normal. She also checked the other ear, found a bit of wax there, and promptly did that one as well - and sternly told me "no more cotton buds". So it's the usual generic greetings, and a promise that I will try to be a better attender ASAP. Regards to All Stewart
  15. Thanks for pointing out my typo there - of course it was a B 737 - 400-4Y0 - at that time the largest aircraft that British Midland operated.
  16. Afternoon All Sat downstairs while 30747 is upstairs listening to gardener's question time sleeping. All posts read though not all rated. Now then memory lane 1966 world cup - my dad was watching it, I was sort of listening in the background while doing some m*delling of a fairly basic type (a bit like now, in fact). JFK - was at Rugby Park, as my dad's friend lent me his season ticket, in the seat next to my dad - this was a fairly early attempt to get me interested in football (see above for how this didn't succeed) - JFK's death was announced on the tannoy, then Kilmarnock went on to beat Airdrie 7 - 0. PanAm disaster - I was at work, and it didn't really sink in until I got home, as I was on board a British Midland flight from Edinburgh, and I didn't hear until I turned on the car radio - I didn't hear at Heathrow as I was pretty determined to get to the car park and onto the M25. Kegworth disaster - I was at home, and horrified by this one, as I had flown on that very aircraft (G-OBME) on the preceding Friday, on a flight from Glasgow and it was on a 24 hour maintenance on the Saturday, and crashed on the Sunday. I know this as the captain on my flight was an acquaintance through gliding, and I was on the flight deck. He did comment that the plane was, for a new(ish) 747 "a bit of a rough one". Diana - was lying in bed before getting up for an easy day when the news was announced on the radio. WTC - was on a training course at BT's Lancaster offices, and when we came down one of my colleagues said that a plane had hit the WTC, but we had not at that time, learned that this was a terrorist action. Well today was a tidying up the big cupboard at the top of the stairs. Wow. 30747 has just come down, frowned at me for being on RMWeb "again" and turned on gardener's question time down here instead. Thank God, I'm having my ears syringed tomorrow (2nd attempt) as I'm almost deaf in one ear. Regards to All Stewart
  17. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey - The Beatles
  18. Afternoon All Been chuckinitdarn here all day and most of last night - and it has to be said that we do need some rain here, as the reservoirs are a bit low - and water was being tankered in to two on 6000 gallon tankers by United Utilities - so from my point of view, let it continue, and then they can also then start to abstract water from the Lune, which the Environment Agency prohibit while the river levels are as low as they have been. Again, due to property seeking, many posts have been skipped, so apologies for my sporadic attendance, and generic greetings are as usual offered and meant sincerely. Today has been, to say the least, a bit hectic, and I do hurt quite a lot - but I've just realised that the last pain relief I had was about 5.45 this morning - DOH - will be rectified as soon as I hit enter. Bookwork first thing started at 7.45 this morning, as 30747 likes to get it out of the way for the weekend. Then a trip to the antique centre at Ingleton, a wet walk round Kirkby Lonsdale, where the most delicious raspberry ripple ice cream was consumed, thanks to these guys https://www.cowtocone.co.uk/ who produce the best Gelati in England without a doubt - no food miles either as the cows are three miles from the shop, and the ice cream is made on the farm, then transported to the shop. I say England, as I can think of two makers in Scotland who can beat their taste - Cones and Candies in Biggar, and Luca's cafe in Musselburgh. Regards to All Stewart
  19. These Are The Days Of My Life - Queen
  20. As a rare malt afficinonado, I have now no bottles left, as they have all been drunk over the years. However, I did find an excellent blended peated malt which knocked my socks off for its quality and an excellent flavour unlike many of the blended malts out there. It's sold by Lidl, and called Abrachan peated blended malt whisky - at £15.99 a bottle, it knocks the sock off anything priced at much more
  21. Afternoon All Injury a bit worse than expected today, I have been hobbling aound. Garage rubbish disposed of now. Got a leaflet this morning that our council's efforts to combat the climate emergency mean that the wast collection routes are being "optimized", meaning that our bins will be collected one week, and our green and recycling on the other - just how changing the day of the collection from one wagon one week and two the other, to two one week, and one the other will make any difference at all. Not all posts read, but many have been. Generic greetings are, as ever proferred. Not a lot to say today. Regards to All Stewart
  22. The Day I Met Marie - Harry Webb
  23. So sad to read this and try, however hard it may seem. to keep your spirits up, by remembering all the good times about him. Afternoon All Garage finished now, and all tools have been sorted, and unwanted wood and metal will be consigned to the tip at the weekend. Fell yesterday when I was in the back shop of Age UK. I had a nasty cramp in my leg, and stood up quickly and my leg gave way - so the garage was done at a rather slow pace. The guy who was so full of the house on Saturday didn't make an offer in the end, as he had got his sums wrong. and couldn't afford the running costs like bus fares for three of them (including his kid) as none of them drive, and the bus fares round here are extortionate - over a fiver return, with the kid's pass at about £800 a year. Regards to All Stewart
  24. Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce
