  1. Just arrived in our warehouse and already going out already to the advance orders five days ahead of time we have. Sir Nigel Gresley The L.N.E.R.'s First C.M.E. https://strathwood.co.uk/products/sir-nigel-gresley-the-l-n-e-r-s-first-c-m-e-launched-15-november-2023 Take a look at the author Simon A.C. Martin being interviewed by Jenny Kirk on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVh7yZyd9Lc Kevin
  2. We have it from Crecy that they had some issue with their printers and several books are caught up in this delay including: British Railways Freight Terminals Since 1960 https://strathwood.co.uk/products/british-railways-freight-terminals-since-1960 British Railways Diesel and Electric Locomotives https://strathwood.co.uk/collections/new-titles/products/railways-remembered-the-western-region-1962-1972-the-blake-paterson-collection-1 Kevin
  3. We have around 100+ photos of the three locos on file from a number of sources most in black & white of course, but I cannot recall seeing any shots that confirm the ultramarine blue shade or the s prefix, it would be great to know any photographic sources as we are working on a third volume of Southern Electric Scrapbook. Kevin
  4. Railway Travel in World War Two An ideal choice as we commemorate Remembrance Sunday with a fascinating look at how the Big Four and the wartime government managed to keep Britain moving during those turbulent years. 272 pages with previously unseen colour and black & white rare archive photographs to enjoy. HARDBACK Grab yours right now with Strathwood for £25.00 and check out our wide range of titles, gift ideas and our NEW Christmas special bonus offer too. https://strathwood.co.uk/products/railway-travel-in-world-war-two Kevin
  5. Not only are customers taking advantage of our Christmas Bonus Book Offer already but also our unique Christmas Gift Special Offers incorporating a book, jigsaw and a mug seem to be going well with their discounted prices, so much so we do have limits on available stock, so please don't leave it until December to order as we may have run out by then. Follow this link to take a peek for yourself. https://strathwood.co.uk/collections/new-titles Kevin
  6. We understand that the last 10% of available stock of this title has been broken into it must be time to get off the fence and join all of the satisfied customers who already are enjoying their copies if you have not already done so. As this is not the kind of book to be reprinted, remaindered or flogged off as surplus by its purchasers but is very much a keeper, trust me. https://strathwood.co.uk/products/a-pictorial-atlas-of-the-somerset-dorset-joint-railway?_pos=1&_psq=somerset&_ss=e&_v=1.0 Kevin
  7. Delivery of The 2024 Railway Quiz Book from Transport Treasury Publishing has been made in the last 24 hours, likewise we are already seeing the steady uplift in sales in preparation for Christmas with orders coming in thick and fast, also a good number of customers making use of our Wish List facility on our website. This way you can do your best to get what you really want and steer unwitting relations and friends away from the likes of sock, jocks and hankies and all manner of rubbish they seem to buy us for Christmas and birthdays. So do help them out and draw up a list on our website or make it very clear what you really fancy. Kevin
  8. A day or so late on here but we chose as our Book of the Week Hoovering Around Taunton and Exeter. Brings back memories of chasing Class 50s around the West Country. Hoovering Around Taunton and Exeter https://strathwood.co.uk/products/hoovering-around-taunton-and-exeter
  9. Just passing on the news as we all expected several titles to be in stock around now, but the publishers Crecy seem to have had issues as they now advise that October/November releases for these two titles are put back to January 2024. We already have advance orders for these which we will honour when the publishers actually release them, meanwhile we are still taking advance orders for those customers who want to roll them into our Christmas Bonus Offer, which means we will send out what you order now and the two delayed titles to follow in January. All very frustrating for everyone of course, the titles affected are: British Railways Freight Terminals Since 1960 British Railways Diesel and Electric Locomotives Also suffering delays are Lightmoor Press with these two titles now due late November rather than the anticipated late October. The Railway Over the Stainmore Pass Post-War Boom and Bust on the North Trans Pennine Also caught in the same delay is: The L&NER Delivers the Goods Volume Two The Scottish and North Eastern Areas These two are expected to arrive with us late November so will be shipped ASAP upon arrival. Our own new title Sir Nigel Gresley The L.N.E.R.'s First C.M.E. is very much still on target for release on 15 November as planned. https://strathwood.co.uk/products/sir-nigel-gresley-the-l-n-e-r-s-first-c-m-e-launched-15-november-2023 Kevin

  18. Now don't start that please, likening a chimney to an American side order of breakfast toast... Kevin
  19. Well done, Kevin, now repeat after me "No more funnels, only chimneys from now on". Chimney A vertical tube or hollow column used to emit environmentally polluting gaseous and solid matter (including but not limited to by-products of burning carbon or hydro-carbon based fuels); a flue. Funnel A passage or avenue for a fluid or flowing substance; specifically, a smoke flue or pipe; the chimney of a steamship or the like. On a different note, it reminds me of school and the differences between roof and rooves, or calf and calves. Tomato or Tomato, potato or potato. Good idea to deal with all of the chimneys all in one go or as my old maths master would say in one "swell foop" (fell swoop). Kevin

  22. Funnels? Chimneys if you please we will have none of that nautical banter back on here, please. Aviation and military associations only... That Castle even has someone polishing inside the chimney, time for a dab of sooty black, I think. Kevin

  25. Should there be any readers on this forum who still wanted to complete their sets or to check up on specific wagon types, may I remind you these are what the fuss is all about. Volume 1 is presently out of print, but we do have stocks of these four in stock, before the referee gets involved again and someone gets sent to the sin bin... https://strathwood.co.uk/products/the-acquired-wagons-of-british-railways-volume-2-all-steel-mineral-wagons-loco-coal-wagons?_pos=2&_psq=wagons&_ss=e&_v=1.0 https://strathwood.co.uk/products/the-acquired-wagons-of-british-railways-volume-3-13t-wooden-bodied-minerals-1923-rch-specification-all-types-including-coke-wagons?_pos=1&_psq=wagons&_ss=e&_v=1.0 https://strathwood.co.uk/products/the-acquired-wagons-of-british-railways-volume-4-due-in-22-april-2021?_pos=5&_psq=wagons&_ss=e&_v=1.0 https://strathwood.co.uk/products/the-acquired-wagons-of-british-railways-volume-5?_pos=4&_psq=wagons&_ss=e&_v=1.0 One final thought as a publisher and author, the moment you decide that your work is finally ready for print, and you take the plunge financially and with some courage to present and share your work to the public. This is the point a host of self-proclaimed experts' storm forward to question everything. Some are helpful, knowledgeable and most are pleasant and share their research willingly should there be a reprint, while others just like to beat their own chests and decry whatever they disagree with, either rightly or wrongly, and to seize their chance to make a full song and dance production of their grievances to you privately and publicly. But that is the joy of seeing your work in print. I await the shower of brickbats that will be sent in my direction for sharing a few of the home truths here. Ho hum... Kevin
