  1. I rented a flat in a block called 'Bath Court' in Maidenhead Being from Yorkshire every phonecall to the lettings office went as follows; I'm calling about Bath Court Where? Bath court Where? Baarrrth Court Why didn't you say? Trouble is, when I say Bath with an R it sounds like I'm taking the mickey. Having worked in retail there and Coventry I've got no accent when I answer the phone at work which confuses a few people.
  2. I'm rolling with the stereotype (I've always favoured 'Steepletone' myself) that catering in the Norf revolves around pie, peas and gravy I believe they do have gravy south of Chesterfield but have not sampled it
  3. stand in front of any excellently finished and well detailed layout and say very loudly (too much shouting in this thread lately) "That's been photoshopped, I can tell by looking at the pixels"
  4. At any northern show, shout very loudly "What do you mean you've run out of gravy" when at the front of the catering line.
  5. Can't help looking at this pic and thinking "diving tower…"
  6. It is, I believe possible to taxi in a hellicopter, although in a restricted space towing would be better. I recall watching a helli taxi and actually run part of the runway at Gurnsey airport once. Perhaps that is procidure when there is no pad? Will Mr Bond and Little Nellie make an appearance? It's close enough to Zollywood for filming
  7. what wire is on the chicken coop? could you paint some salt water on and let it weather itself?
  8. Different bases would have developed differently depending on use - most started out in WW2 as a grass field, of course, someone who was RAF at some point will know more than I Dishforth looks to me as though it was once a bomber base due to the triangle of runways and the perimeter track (which is how Silverstone started out as a race track!) Catterick looks as though it was always a fighter base having a single smaller permanent runway.
  9. Haha, I was stood next to you when you took the photo!
  10. Part way through catching up with this thread, I feel like I've just moved to a new area and walked into a local pub that happens to have a model railway in one half of it!
  11. Prototypical and accurate underground layout populated only with Underground Ernie stock?
  12. Put a sign up "children touching the models will be given cafeen, energy sweets and, subject to parental permission a pony or race car" And watch the chaos.
  13. You don't see that much rust on transits, the exception being where there's a bit of damage to the body to remove a spot of paint allowing rust to get a hold. The rust above the driver's door (remember, drivers door is on the right!) looks right to me for having been clipped while manoeuvring under an arched bridge or loading something on / off a roof rack. occasionally bits of rust on / around the rear doors (often damaged) especially the numberplate area but hey, each vehicle is different
  14. Was that at the Wakefield show where I was running my Hornby Bill and Ben up and down long preston's narrow gauge line?
  15. Confectionary (cadburys had their own rail system) Cereal (Kellogg's had their own system linked to the Trafford park system) Motor works
  16. I'll finish getting the body on it, write it up and send it across If you think it's a bit short I won't be offended, I'll just carry on with the kit, write the next bit and go from there
  17. There's often tall fences and gates to prevent access to allotments depending on the area they can be tennis court size fencing, but it's your layout and that's a small allotment not as tucked out the way so might not need the high fencing I've seen in some areas.
  18. black with touches of rust to make it look like post WW2 cast iron fencing (lots of victorian cast iron fencing was melted down during the war and replaced later) if it's newer fencing then it'd probably have been powder coated so black, dark (brunswick) green or similar unless the garage decided to put up red or something to go with their corporate colours (not that common)
  19. My loco project has stalled but I fully intend to submit it when complete, would you want each stage until complete with paint and transfers or would completing and running but yet to be painted be ok as a feature to cover painting at a later date. More projects in the pipeline too
  20. Sounds a good way of doing it, offering trains in the first instace and splitting if no takers (would be surprised if not) Hope it's not too overwhelming for you, I'm N gauge otherwise I'd be making offers.
  21. Thanks, Thinking some logs traffic would be good (like the traction engine) including bolsters and a horse having brought it to the goods yard from the felling site.
  22. Loving the new layout, fond memories of running Highbury a couple of years ago at St Albans - you're making me want to build a small layout now - better get on with brew lane then. One rather random question, the logs in the timber yard, are they cut into specific lengths based on actual practice or just what seemed a good length? to add some variation to my traffic (and that my eventual layout will be somewhere near, if not in, the lake district, wood and slate traffic was quite common so I've been acquiring bolster wagons and need to put some tree trunks on. The lengths you've used look quite realistic so thought I'd ask
  23. What's MDF like for resisting humidity, I'd have thought it would swell a bit too much to be stable.
  24. I'm starting to enjoy the society magazine (I joined in time for issue 2/14 and now want some milk tankers!) It's taken me a bit of time to get used to each article having a different writing style compared with a commercial undertaking that has its own house style and writing format but it has become part of the charm. Hope to contribute my streamlined coronation build when I've finished it
