  1. Thought I recognised your username from somewhere, couldn't think until you mentioned Hobbiton End! Nice to see your 'serious' modeling
  2. Just making a note to have a proper read at home Looking good, I was, for some reason assuming it to have a continuous run (was browsing on my phone in my lunch break) as I can't see the initial planning and mini model but later posts have filled in the detail. I'll be keeping an eye on how it progresses
  3. I always think US rolling stock looks so odd compared with what I'm used to seeing, I guess it's because UK coaching stock (units such as Voyager etc excluded) hasn't changed much in outside appearance in my 30 years
  4. I'm liking the construction of your boards more and more each time I see them, some questions if I may? 1) does the top scenic layer lift off completely or just hinge to allow access to the storage level? 2) in the video the board you're working on appears to be the wrong way round to the rest of the layout, am I going mad? 3) are the boards portable, such as to move and re-assemble for exhibitions? 4) is the wiring for the scenic boards run along the hinged edge to avoid it catching / pulling when accessing the storage level? Thanks

Just catching up with this thread, I'd prefer the L&Y pug first, then the garratt Would these, if produced, be in various popular gauges?
  6. hehe, perfect for the current weather conditions. I've not downloaded and had a go yet as I've so many other projects currently on the go including some graphics work to fund said projects! I'll be working in N when I get round to it but might see if the structure of the 00 shed could suit a 30's/50's stand alone domestic garage. Unfortunately I don't know when that will be.
  7. Some fake signs need to be made and put up for this that simply lead people round in a figure of 8 (more amusing than a circle and we're able to deny that they were lead in a circle)
  8. ah, I'm plotting DC control. I dont' actually have a connection to the beer other than a satisfied customer
  9. Are you fitting a 'deadmans' section to the fiddle yard, been thinking about this and wondering if the IR detector for the train at the front of the loop creates a dead section of track under itself so the first train comes to an automatic stop in the right place, The IR detector for the second half of the loop, combined with the one for the front creates a dead section to stop the second train in the correct place while also preventing a third train from trying to come in. not sure how the electrics or moving the second train up would work.

Will you ever make an N gauge pug On a serious note, do you plan to branch into rolling stock or focus purely on locos?
  11. Had something similar on my 00 a number of years back. They were either P&D Marsh or Langley. Kit comprised pedal car and Beano style go-kart with two boys. Easy enough build
  12. It doesn't go through the middle however my joists aren't strong enough to carry floor boards as the Victorians who built it didn't expect to go up for anything more than maintenance. We're considering a proper conversion to double as a guest room...
  13. Following with interest as I'm looking to do similar in my loft
  14. Hi Pete, How robust has the cardboard case proven to be? I'm debating cardboard, transport bag (appears to include cardboard case) or aluminium
  15. Too tall for my coffee table, 129 would have been fine. To get and cut down or not...
  16. But surely fantasy is only believable if realistic...
  17. If you've got a holding pool you may need somewhere for the surplus to go, it may be worth looking at options for an overflow from the tower to end up in a pond / watering vegetables being grown. The water course from the spring/fountain to the chute could be recessed into the path, wooden boards lining a channel and the hobbits simply step over it, similar to those seen when out walking in the national parks to direct streams across footpaths instead of down them
  18. Could assemble a culvert from planks and uprights to channel the water to the aqueduct…
  19. Glad to have been of assistance, looking good, hope to see this one in the flesh sometime
  20. Hi Peter, welcome to the Frankland appreciation society, The faded brick adverts are covered somewhere in the previous posts, if I remember correctly they are produced in photoshop.
  21. What's the mill chimneys actual height in mm or cm? I have a brewery in need of a chimney but the layout is in a glass topped coffee table
  22. This is what I've picked up, that the operating department used to try and tell the CME what to design, up until Stanier responded with 'no, you tell me what your motive power requirements are and I'll design to meet that' He then penned the princess and duchess
  23. Now with added BRIO

      Ah BRIO. Great fun!

  24. Apparently NZ$75 is £38.53 I'm lead to believe the general cost of living in NZ is slightly higher than here but this was from watching 'wanted down under' type shows when we were considering going.
