  1. Rails prices do seem a little overpriced however where a best offer is available, I have bought lots of items at well below the initial price, with the added advantage of post free if the order is paid directly by telephone, As an example some H0e items in 2 lots initially priced at £110 cost me around £79 with no postal cost
  2. I dont think you can avoid it without a long detour via the * Warrington direction, which will cost more in Fuel, You may as well order online and save some cash & time, I could travel from home to Widnes but it would cost around £9.00 in petrol and around 1 3/4 hours driving time, and now there is the Toll I can add £4 to the total. * Probably worth you checking out the route as you will no doubt travel via the M6 from S-O-T
  3. That is /was very true when I was on the island and we got into non commercial discussions about 'things in general' with my customers I got the distinct impression that there was not a great deal of interest about things that were not associated with the Island, I used to enjoy my days on the Island though.
  4. Were there not once plans to build a Railway Tunnel to the IOM or was that Ireland!!
  5. My latest order was one of those delayed by the unserviceable aircraft, but it arrived this morning at 8-00AM none the worse for wear after its 50mile plus sea crossing, so now I am delighted to have a rather noisy and dirty Pom-Pom amongst the loco fleet, I am saddened and annoyed to hear that Track shack actually recvd. abusive messages because of this minimal shipping delay, which was totally out of their control, it brings to mind that when I was working as an Account Manager in the early 90s prior to the digital communications age, I used to spend 2 or 3 days working on the IOM, and very occasionally the morning newspapers did not arrive due to transportation or weather issues, I was amazed at the attitude of some of the guests in the hotel ( The Palace in Douglas) when they did not get their morning paper, you would have thought it was the end of the world . PS the loco was around £20+ less than the next nearest price!
  6. So what is the difference then between them apart from the running number?
  7. Another thing I dont quite 'get' is the sometimes strange pricing of S/H items there are many examples but here is just one, Bachmann Southern C Class running number 31086 ealrly crest black *2 listed £114 & £112 ---pre owned Same loco running number 31227 £106.21 NEW Is there a premium for the running number of the used ones?? * there are more than 2 listed pre owned Edit for accuracy and I called them Hornby originally!!
  8. It is well worth spending as few minutes checking prices on line and also the occasional telephone enquiry can reap rewards, I recvd a Bachmann Sound loco today with a significant saving of around £21
  9. I notice the spec states 5 pole skew wound motor, no mention of a flywheel though, so presumably it wont have one?....... Or 2 like the J15!
  10. or stick all the sharp curves in tunnels
  11. Thanks for the info, from a rather cold +2.0'C North Wales, I bet its warmer there!!
  12. Quick query does the Bachmann J11 have tender pickups ( i assume it does but just checking to be sure) Thanks
  13. If I am talking about the the correct one in attached photo I bought it about a week ago WHS in Broughton Park CH7 0BJ It is a very interesting read at first when I leafed thro' it I was slightly disappointed, but when I took my time and read the articles carefully! I found there is a lot of very useful information suggestions and ideas, its one of those publications where a quick browse in the newsagents is insufficient to gain a true perspective of the contents. Well worth its cover price!
  14. Nice video great sound, Re the background, it looks familiar, or is it just me!!?
  15. Has anyone read the latest Ideas for Layouts Annual 2017 from MR yet?
  16. I can now report that the order was complete nothing missing everything fine, including an item of motive power ( currently N/A anywhere except S/H) which was listed in the pre-used listings as like new, was definitely like new, the packaging both the actual carton and the inner plastic packing & polythene protection strips indicated to me the item had never been removed from its box, The order was placed at around 13.30 and arrived 08.30 next day Thank you Hattons.
  17. I am retired, but never get any time to put my feet up! Cannot understand it, BTW, Mr News Newsagent next to Sainsbury local Mercia Drive Mynydd Isa has good selection of Mags
  18. Totally off topic but I have had misdelivery problems...... I live in xxxx drive which has been in existence for 50 years, about 15 yrs ago a small development was built about 1/4 mile away, Just a single cul-de-sac the namer of roads in the council named it xxxx mews, so we have 2 roads with similar names, ( different post codes but that doesn't make much difference). we get post delivered regularly for the mews address along with late night take away deliveries and Yodel or Hermes calling to collect parcels!! There was no need to name the Mews the same name as ours, it could easily have been named after the farm which once stood there which is totally different !
  19. My Next day delivery order received on time around 0830, ( not had a chance to open the package yet)
  20. As the baseboard in the '2017' pic has a trackless baseboard, I bet he probably cannot make up his mind whether to use Flat Bottom or Bullhead track
  21. The 2 pics of the cartoon are 60 years apart, 1st shows modeller happily listening to the radio smoking a pipe and playing trains, 2nd show comp with FORUM on it baseboard is almost bare with the modeller looking frustrated and bad tempered on his comp keyboard you really have to see it to appreciate it I see myself there!! page 1074
  22. The Laughter Lines cartoon (p1074) Is very very apt In fact I see myself as one who uses up 'modelling time' doing other things as portrayed in the carton. Everyone should try to have a look at P1074 I woder if Peco would allow the cartoon to be shown on here, it may actually generate some sales!
  23. After what has been a 2 month ordering gap for me I have just placed a Next Day delivery, we shall see how it works out! I order for myself and a group of friends who find it convenient to pick up things from my address due to their work commitments, so this is my 18th order this year , which is well down on 2016 when 43 orders were placed, The cost of living is beginning to bite I think, and the recent mortgage rate increase will no doubt have a further effect, I am pleased to be Mortgage free now, but remember well when we had a Mortgage. In the 80/90s the mortgage interest rate was sometimes in double figures and rate increases had a dramatic effect on our standard of living sorry to digress
  24. Well that's OK Cos' I aint go no money at the mo until someone buys something off Ebay
