  1. Great pics again Chris. Interesting weathering on the Clayton, especially the solebar - presumably the paxmans have been chucking out a fair bit of oil
  2. Then if you ever attend one where there are signs stating 'collar and tie must be worn', you could turn up wearing ONLY a collar and tie! :-)
  3. No reason for the CCT not to be a tail-load, subject to loading and the route taken. Especially important for a unit that only has one powered car, any restrictions would be covered in the Sectional Appendix for the area.
  4. I notice there's a CK in the train and one of the earlier pics at waverley had a BFK. Unusual to have 1st class on these services, but not unknown - maybe just down to what stock was available at the time. Great to see pics of these trains, bread and butter services for me in Kirkcaldy. There's a great YouTube video of the last days of the 27s by jbg06003, lots of these trains usually with a 4 coach mix of mk1/mk2z.
  5. Great set of pics again, Dave. The one of the green 27s seems to confirm the generally manky condition they were in around this time (see also BrushVeteran's Flickr). On some locos, you'd be hard pushed to know they had white window surrounds.
  6. Love the pic of the 101 at burntisland - just wondering how the links is completely deserted on a sunny august day! Quite often there would be a funfair and even if there wasn't, the links and beach would be packed. Great to see pics from my neck of the woods - thank you!
  7. living on an island - status quo
  8. C449 is an amazing pic - looks like a layout and has an almost 3D quality! C667 a great pic to give an idea of breakdown train formation - OK, not everyone would have space for large crane, but could be adapted with a smaller crane or possibly none at all? Smaller derailments could presumably be dealt with just jacking etc.? Excellent pics anyway
  9. I believe any wagon code starting with R meant the railway operating dept. and covered barrier/match/runner wagons. The final R meant the wagon was through vacuum and air piped and probably would have an emergency brake valve. Just thinking RAR might be a brake van used on something like EMUs/ other stock for delivery for refurb/scrap, as opposed to a 'normal' freight service. Even if the train was otherwise fitted, the guard would still need somewhere to go. Presumably the van would allow propelling moves of fitted stock too. EDIT: edited as the possible type of train came to me
  10. Love the green 40 still with its nose ladder and the 85 showing that 'weathered' can still be colourful!
  11. Cracker of a ferry you have there, it's a beaut! To paraphrase the Jaws film: 'you're gonna need a bigger bath!' :-)
  12. A post about these cl.40s: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51724-Bachmann-class-40-32-475dc-and-32-480ds/page-6&do=findComment&comment=970804
  13. The class 40 at morpeth will be one of 40060-66, the ScR converted them to headcode boxes leaving the outline of the former gangway doors along the bottom of the nose (can't remember offhand which one had that style of marker lights) Edit: 40062
  14. Thanks to debs for the 'like', reminded me of this so looked up the 1969 ScR sec.app. Miles measured from Edinburgh seem to end at Dundee where there is a 0 MP. Miles northwards are measured from here as far as kinnaber jn., where the 'miles from carlisle' take over
  15. J5233 that 310 looks well smart in blue with the metal window frames. For some reason, looks like a pic of a very nice garden layout!
  16. photo C1812 of the 309s passing - interesting pic showing the use of destination boards on the bodyside presumably useful if the train was split en-route wonderful pics as always
  17. was looking for the page today and it's here: http://web.archive.org/web/20101102164441/http://www.jhowie.force9.co.uk/carstairs.htm
  18. "Bristol Temple Meads 31407 and 31412 ex pass to Liverpool 1st July 89 C12108a" Interesting shot, not just for the 2 x 31s, but also the stock used. At least one mk3 behind the BG, would this perhaps be a WCML mk3 set used for a NW-SW service and return? Was this a summer Saturday service? I'm sure I've seen a similar train through dawlish in a YouTube video unless I'm getting mixed up with something else! Keep these great pics coming Dave
  19. Dave, you often seem to catch an interesting bit of stock in your pics! "Avenue sidings Class 47 St Pancras to Sheffield March 75 J4193" showing one of the FOs with centre doors in the seating bay (can't remember the diagram no. and can't get at my Parkin book) - IIRC as there were still 7 bays but with no centre vestibule, the seat pitch was slightly roomier than standard 1st class. However the central door opening into the seating bay wasn't popular and also couldn't have a table. Coach no. looks like 3015
  20. More and more great pictures Dave. There always seems to be an interesting detail or two in what may seem like otherwise ordinary shots. For example the cl.313 with a 4-character headcode in use - I knew the GE 315s had them, but never realised the 313s did too.(and well after they were discontinued) On a more emotional level, I would've loved to have seen 2 x cl.50s with 13 or 14 on. Can imagine it'd have been pretty impressive!
  21. Everybody's got to learn sometime - the korgis
  22. Sorry to hear about the old layout Neil. Out of east coast bias, I'd say go for the fife idea! Not just that, the can't be many other layouts of the area, certainly nowhere near as many as West/North/highland lines. How about a modern-ish 'what if?', namely the fife coast line stayed open? I suppose the stock/traffic could be similar to a highland line - 2-car DMUs with occasional LH through trains/specials/tourist services, local freight flows (eg whisky trade/agriculture). Presuming mainly single line with passing loop stations (with/without goods yards) [big DOH! edit: just looked back at the old thread and first post mentions that was pretty much what you'd done already - oops me! (and I'd completely forgotten about THAT fabby castle). that'll teach me to look before I post!] Even an up-to-date fife line, given the campaigns to reopen traffic to leven and st.andrews Good luck, whichever you decide to go for :-)
  23. Amazing pics Dave, the natural light makes your modelling even more realistic
