  1. If a bus station's where you catch a bus, and a train station (ugh! - horrible phrase!) is where you catch a train, what's a fire station for?

Whereas at a polling station, it's simply catch 22.

  3. Thought of taking my copy of the 1863 Bradshaw with me on a train jpurney recently but realised that not only would I need to buy a brightly coloured shirt and jacket that don't match, I'd also have to master the knack of leaving the station on one train, travelling on a completely different one, and arriving at my destination on the one I got on in the first place!

I have this crazy idea to do programmes about the regions of the UK, its people and traditions - but do 95% of the filming on the railways.

I think they're called The BBC...!

  4. Last of the major electrical issues on the branch sorted - just need to clean a few point contacts now (hopefully). Pity there isn't enough room here to have the full layout up though :-(

Hopefully the electrical problems weren't to serious?

  5. Obviously my repair to the wiring on Devil's Bridge/Niedeau last week wasn't correct, as everything shorts out now! :-(

I did wonder if that was it (where do you think I was coming back from?). I had to make do with a 165 too!

  9. Am I the only one watching the couple dancing in the loft and sizing it up for a layout?

  10. Vale of Rheidol 2-tone green looks like being an interesting experiment!

  11. Lesson of the day - if you're going to stand on a bridge to watch the trains on the way home from the club, make sure it's the one that still has track underneath it (Reading West-Southcote Junction), not the one that hasn't (Coley goods branch)!

  12. sorted an annoying electrical problem this evening.

  13. has snapped both the "Brits" today! :-)

  14. is annoyed that in spite of being able to see the railway from his desk, was away from it when Tangmere came through!

  15. really enjoyed his "driving lessons" yesterday, though working the 'box' was harder work than I imagined!

      The Stationmaster

Far easier if you just take it gently. It only becomes hard with a heavy frame otherwise it's just a matter of weight and balance - much less tiring.

  16. Gate problem intermittent - not yet fixed, though not helped by Class 20 colliding with it in halfway position! However did manage the spectacle of 5 trains operating to a set sequence with changeable routes, working signals and flashing TARDIS!

  17. auto route-setting for the harbour branch now working, but the gate mechanism seems to have stopped :-(

  18. "virtual" 2 aspect signal and associated auto-stop fitted and working at last, despite some heart-stopping moments with the integrated circuits.....

Just realised still some issues with the auto-stop - guess what today's job is!

  19. is wondering if anyone else has ever transported a 10' exhibition layout... by bicycle?

There was a layout that travelled by train a few years ago, rested on an ironing board. Can't remember any other details though.

Sorry, I can't supply photos as the move has already taken place (this morning!) and I doubt will be repeated on the way back! I was carrying the layout by hand (two 5' boards, the scenic board able to fit between the carrying handles of the FY) with the stock/controller bag on my shoulder when a kind gentleman with a bicycle asked if he could help! I put the stock bag in the rear basket and laid the boards on top, running from the rear basket to the handlebars, with one of...

  20. started building his first etched brass kit yesterday. Well, I've got two bits together so far! More positively though, at least I fixed one of the electrical issues on my main lyout and made some progress on Niederau.
