  1. well that's that, decision made, more O gauge track ordered and a catch-point... rather than using up all my loft space for OO I'm going to focus my efforts on a small yard for a 1930s LMS South Wales branch in 7mm :-)

  2. The reality is, surely, I am never going to build enough layouts to justify the variety and quantity of stock I own... but do I have the resolve to part with so much of it 🙄

      ruggedpeak

Amen to that brother, I am in the same position and steeling myself to offload stock for the hypothetical layouts that may never get built.

  3. Taking a close look at some recently bought Bachmann BR wagons, love the details, I'd not spotted before the dates on the panels, amazingly fine print and my terrible short sightedness allows me to read some dates, 1979, 1980, spot on for my period 👍

  4. Beginning to realise I'm going to need a lot more track...

  5. 'It's my life
    Don't you forget...'

    RIP Mark Hollis

Hoped against hope that the rumours on Monday weren't true but sadly they are. Currently spinning Spirit of Eden and will move onto Laughing Stock and the solo album before bed. On vinyl of course.

I only have Laughing Stock and the solo album on CD, but vinyl for the others. A 12" single or two somewhere as well.

Laughing stock is a strange semi official pressing from around 10 years ago. Solo album vinyl was a re-release not too many years ago.

Recommend in a similar vein I Trawl the Megahertz by Paddy McAloon (Prefab sprout). Sadly though the recent release are all miss pressed (off centre).

  6. Well, the loft layout, such that it was, is now all boxed up ready for the big move. All being well in a couple of months I'll be up and running again in a bigger and better loft.

  7. eyeing up Barnoldswick for inspiration for LMS 1920s BLT, what's more, measuring off the OS 25" it's a manageable 10 feet (in 4mm) from the overbridge at one end to the former engine shed at the other... and I've got a 6 by 2 and a 4 by 2 to play with, and there is the ideal backscene of terrace backs--http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/b/barnoldswick/

      Compound2632

Very nice. Of course 1920s LMS in that part of the world is pretty much pure Midland - with a good proportion of the locomotives available RTR.

Absolutely, plus a Midland brake, a few coal wagons, a couple of clerestories and bob's your auntie!

  8. very sorry to hear of John Flann's passing, a true gent and an inspirational modeller: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/132383-hintock-st-loe-my-oo-cameo-inglenook-in-60-a-14/?p=3104789

Sorry I posted above at the same time.

      Andy.

  9. well it's a bit chilly in the loft for a running sesh so I've got the plank out on the dining room table and shunting a few wagons around--that Hornby Sentinel is a bit juddery though :-(

    1. Hroth

      Hroth

Was the Sentinel in the loft too? Lubrication on the gears might be a bit thick from the cold.

ah, that would explain it--yes, I'll give it a chance to warm up a bit and try again, cheers.

      Liam

Yeah, mine will be a few weeks after Warley when that year comes . .

  16. what are those blue squares and circles at the top of the page? the count down has gone and now I see some sort of message emerging... curious.

How odd, perhaps it was just a glitch with my browser or something?!

  17. 08 15 33 42 55 58 53 -- bit surprising no lottery ticket buying railway enthusiast had these numbers on their ticket, if they had they'd won enough to buy a real deltic...

    1. Hroth

      Hroth

      But who'd have a 15?

    2. sharris

      sharris

I'm so behind the times- I didn't know they'd extended the numbers into the 50s.

    3. waggy

      waggy

But you could choose at least 28 numbers between 1 and 59 that refer to tops locomotive classes

  18. last day of 'summer', now for the long dark winter nights...

    3. tractionman

      tractionman

True enough, not a lot of summer on the Emerald Isle, and up in the north here the winter days are shorter and nights longer sadly, if only hibernation was possible! Oh to wake up on a sunny spring morning...

  21. Less is more. Ok, cliché I know, but having spent some time at Larkrail 2017 this morning it's been on my mind, layouts with expansiveness and less of the expensiveness I seem to be pursuing...
