  1. Hello everyone Here are my votes and reasons: 1, 2, 3 and 9. I believe the GE Section 52ft 6in Stock is vital to go with the wide range of GER/LNER locos now available. They travelled far and wide and are clearly 'distinctive' with the shorter length. The existing range of Gresley 61ft 6in General Service Stock could be enhanced by Hornby - bearing in mind that some (many?) feel the profile is wrong on the current models. Plenty of scope there! And the same goes for the End Door Stock - vital for ECML services. I have only voted for Thompson Round Corner Window Stock - again, a vital component of trains passing through Peterborough North. I haven't voted for either of the Sleepers. I can't see a lot of market for such stock with all its complexities. Brian
  2. Hello again Alistair and everyone This is an example of how to submit your votes: 1, 3 , 5, 9, 10. If you so desire, you can follow that up with your reasons and arguments as to why you think such stock should be made. Thanks Brian
  3. Hello Alistair (and everyone) Could I ask you vote 'by numbers' as requested, please? There are several 61ft 6in items. This helps me log your exact wishes. Thanks Brian
  4. Hello Andy Good point! I'm so used to running just 00, it automatically happened! I have amended the title accordingly! Thanks. Brian
  5. 00 Rolling Stock Mini-Poll No.1: Gresley & Thompson Gangwayed Hello everyone Welcome to the first of this series of seven Mini-Polls concerning rolling stock that has at least some connection with Peterborough North. I am running them on behalf of Gilbert. You can submit your wishes here, on the thread, as usual, or PM me direct if you prefer the ‘secret ballot’ method. If you vote on the thread, please feel free to explain why you have chosen your selection – hopefully, that will promote some interesting debates – but please do not take it as an excuse to start up the old chestnut of ‘kits vs RTR’! Here’s what to do… 1. You may choose a maximum of three Gresley items and two Thompson. 2. You cannot ‘transfer votes’ to have five Gresley and no Thompson etc. although you can vote for just Gresley or just Thompson. 3. They must be items you would realistically wish to buy if made RTR. 4. Submit your entries on this thread simply as (for example): 2, 4, 7, 9, 10 – with comments and explanations following. 5. If you vote by PM, please only list your selection of numbers without explanations. Get your thinking caps on and get voting! 1. Gresley GE section Stock 52ft 6in (eg Diags.9, 141, 146, 216 of 1926-1936) 2. Gresley General Service Stock 61ft 6in (eg Diags.1, 114, 115, 130, 174, 175 of 1920s-1939) 3. However, I will stop earlier and advise if votes reach 50. I will present the results during the day on Friday 21 May. I look forward to your selections and comments! Brian (Note: These are ‘informal Polls for fun’ on Gilbert’s thread only and neither The 00 Wishlist Poll Team nor RMweb are specifically involved, apart from me in my ‘personal capacity’.)
  6. Hello Bloodnok I 'took it as read' that you - or anyone else - would consult Gilbert before starting any poll. That's why my idea went to him via PM in the first instance. Brian
  7. Hello Sandhole Please vote on Monday - I am not counting until then, and only on those on the list. Thanks. Brian
  8. Hello Bloodnok You are welcome to try that one yourself, but I would be grateful if you could hold it until my series finishes - comments may arise that could usefully 'feed into' what you do. Personally, I wont take the job on...I know from experience of running The 00 Wishlist Poll that it's a difficult subject! Brian
  9. Hello LNER4479 You'll have to wait until Monday 24 May! Brian
  10. Rolling Stock Mini-Polls (being run on behalf of Gilbert by Brian Macdermott) Hello everyone Recently, Gilbert asked for suggestions for his series of informal and highly enjoyable polls. I submitted an idea for a series of seven weekly polls – each of no more than 10 items per week – concerning rolling stock not yet (or not fully yet) available in RTR form and which have at least some relevance to Peterborough North traffic. These Polls will be for items that you would like to see made RTR and would realistically wish to buy. I make the assumption that any item would be produced in a full range of liveries from LNER to BR. The Polls will be: No.1: Gresley & Thompson Gangwayed No.2: Gresley & Thompson Catering No.3: Non-passenger – 4- & 6-wheel No.4: Non-passenger – 8-wheel No.5: Freight Stock – 4-wheel (Pre-1951) No.6: Freight Stock – 4-wheel (Post-1950) No.7: Freight Stock – 8-wheel The first will start next Monday 17 May during the morning. You will have until 17.00 on Thursday 20 May to submit your wishes – either here, on the thread, or PM direct to me if you prefer the ‘secret ballot’ method. I will present the results during the day on Friday 21 May. Subsequent Polls will follow the same Monday, Thursday, Friday timetable; however, on Monday 5 July, I will present a full summary: ‘Overall Results – Top-to-Bottom’. In the unlikely event that any poll reaches 50 votes, I will stop early and advise by a posting to this thread – so vote early! Gilbert and I hope you will find these Mini-Polls both challenging and interesting – you will certainly need your thinking caps on as you have to make a limited selection from the lists! If you vote on the thread, please feel free to explain why you have chosen your selection – hopefully, that will promote some interesting debates – but please do not take it as an excuse to start up the old chestnut of ‘kits vs RTR’. These are ‘informal Polls for fun’ on Gilbert’s thread only and neither The 00 Wishlist Poll Team nor RMweb are specifically involved (apart from me in my ‘personal capacity’.) All the best, Brian
  11. Hello Gilbert I will PM you one shortly so that you can decide whether to run it or not. Brian
  12. Hello Chris Have you asked Mike Arlett? Brian
  13. Hello again Just found the site below - the aerial photo (1948) is worth a look. Brian http://www.crht1837.org/history/camdengoodsdepot
  14. Hello Iain You have probably seen this - and it is too early for your model - but it may help overall understanding of the area. Brian
  15. Hello Iain If that can't be answered here, you might get some joy from the 'Skills & Knowledge' Forum. Brian https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/35-permanent-way-signalling-infrastructure/
  16. Hello Iain I fully agree with your plan. Having looked back at the actual track plan of the goods shed area, there is a multitude of difficult track formations at the throat. Fine to make if you were building the whole site, but you are having to compress anyway. Much better to 'give an impression' of the track there but concentrate the work effort on the running lines and shed. Brian
  17. Hello Iain Superb work! For me - as someone who knew the place in the late 50s/early 60s - it really works! A milestone reached. Brian
  18. Hello Mike Another way to approach the subject is to fix your eye on a fixed point on the layout - a signal post for example - then run the train past. Ask yourself, does that passing speed 'look right' for the type of train? Yet another way is to listen to the how fast the vehicle axles cross any track gaps and compare that to real railway sounds. In my experience, modellers run trains far faster than 'real' ones. If you play such as a Peter Handford recording while observing as above, you will soon 'get the feel' for what is right for your trains. Brian
  19. Hello Captain I have some All Components handheld controllers (which used to be made by Kent Panel Controls). I had one repaired, and one of my normally good locos was 'jumping like a kangaroo'. The company somehow 'took off' (or vastly reduced) the feedback for me and the problem was solved. Brian
  20. Hello Denbridge Apologies...I missed the Saint! It was in The Top 50. (And it does depend on a definition of 'big locos' so there are bound to be some anomalies here and there as Tony and I have mentioned.) Brian
  21. Hello Bill We alluded to that point in The Guide (as below). It would have been impossible for us to list every 'quirk' of every class. Hope that explains matters. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team) LSWR H15 Rebuilt Drummond 4-6-0 (30330-30335) Nos.30330 to 30334 of the London & South Western Railway were 1924 Maunsell rebuilds with two outside cylinders of the Drummond 4-cylinder F13 class, whilst No.30335 was a 1914 Urie rebuild of the Drummond E14 class. Mixed traffic engines, they worked a variety of duties on the South Western Section, including main line freights and semi-fast passenger duties as well as holiday extras on summer Saturdays etc. Nos.30330-30335 had a long association with Salisbury shed. They were withdrawn between 1956 and 1961.
  22. Hello Bill Below is how we listed the H15s in The Poll (with appropriate notes in the accompanying Guide): 4-6-0 LSWR H15 Rebuilt Drummond (30330-30335) 4-6-0 SR H15 Maunsell (30473-30478, 30521-30524) 4-6-0 LSWR H15 Urie (30482-30491) The LSWR D15 was consistently around the middle point of the Low Polling segment. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  23. Hello Tony and Clive I was referring to just some of the 'bigger' locos that have polled well, alluding to Tony's earlier comment (viz): "The point I was trying to make was that, with regard to 'big steam stuff', just about every type is now available RTR in OO. And, big engines have always been the most popular, particularly for the likes of my trainspotting generation". So, not all locos are listed...you'll have to refer to the published results over the years to get a full picture. The J6 has always hovered around the higher echelons of the Middle Polling segment. The Hush Hush has always been High Polling, and was the most-wanted LNER loco in 2018 and 2019, being in The Top 50 by then The A2/3 was always slightly higher than the A2/2 and the A1/1 has always been very low. Perhaps 'some context' might not go amiss here... We listed about 800 items (including rolling stock). We calculated that we could have listed around 30,000 items and that wouldn't have included 'pioneering era' items such as Rocket etc. So, even if an item is Low in the Poll, it is still way up high in most pecking orders. Dennis Lovett (he of Bachmann fame) kept a list of all kits ever made. It was, I gather, going to be made available on what became 'the new MREmag' (online magazine) but that seems to be on hold at the moment. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  24. Hello Tony and everyone Here are some 'yet-to-be done' locos which have been high in The 00 Wishlist Poll over the years... GWR: County (current model very long in the tooth) Great Bear LMS Turbomotive (which you mentioned) Big Bertha Caprotti Black 5 SR The SR doesn't have a vast range of 'big locos' yet-to-be-done, but the following have been popular... U and U1 2-6-0 Q 0-6-0 Z 0-8-0T K 2-6-0 H15 4-6-0 W 2-6-4T D1, E1 and L1 4-4-0 C2X 0-6-0 LNER U1 Beyer-Garratt B16/1, B16/2 and B16/3 B2 (although this one is always in the Low Polling segment!) BR WD 2-10-0 Standard Class 5 Caprotti Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  25. Hello Edwardian The 517 has gradually - and consistently - moved upwards in The 00 Wishlist Poll (bearing in mind, though, that a number of the top-wanted GWR items have come to market, leaving 'spare space'' for it to move into). In 2019 - the final Poll - it was the 9th most-wanted GWR loco. It was High Polling as well as being towards the upper echelons of that segment. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
